Literally my family's favorite place ever. They do an amazing job perfecting the texmex bbq vibe they got going. My family always does the big time which is a huge platter of tacos, quesadillas, burritos, etc. whereas I always get the honey bbq wings. Their blue cheese is extraordinary (I love ranch and blue cheese but theirs hits so diff). Their crab cakes were a special once and literally blew my mind. I love their fried avocado tacos as an app also. All the different bbq sauces they have are phenomenal. We get takeout a lot but nothing is better than sitting in the restaurant and having the whole experience! There's limited seating but they're very efficient and there is an outdoor patio out front that is perfect for the summer. Service is always great, no notes.
At first was skeptical seeing that it was a Mexican restaurant AND bbq place... but Hands down best bbq in central Jersey .. the pit head (I believe was the name) is what we ordered. Everything was so good but my fav were the ribs with the chipotle bbq and Mac and cheese. Can't wait to go back and try more. Also definitely try the flan. It's worth it.
The portion size of the food is awesome. Everyone inside is really kind. I have only done take out but it looks like there is outdoor seating during the warmer seasons.
This restaurant is a MUST visit! The menu is extensive with bbq and Mexican options. The restaurant offers a casual vibe and has the nicest server I've ever encountered. Danielle greeted every customer with friendly enthusiasm. She offered excellent service. I opted for bbq and my husband ordered oxtail. He said it was some of the best oxtail he's ever had. My bbq platter was flavorful and PLENTIFUL! We also thoroughly enjoyed our sides of Brussels sprouts and coleslaw. A place that provides a variety of sauce options on the table is always a plus in my book.
I think I just ate the best chili I've ever tasted. It was so good, I packed it up to go and ordered wings just so I can take it home and eat it in the comfort of my robe....we need some alone time. In all seriousness, I walked in about 30minutes before closing and I was treated well and served like it was the middle of the afternoon. Server Britney was amazing! Everything she recommended including the spicy Margarita was good. Also, they use fresh lime juice, NOT SOUR MIX, I loved my drink. I'm a fan and will definitely be back.
Surprised I never wrote a review for this place. Food was phenomenal. Definitely give them a try! We couldn't decide whether we wanted tacos or bbq and as luck would have it, this place has both and does it well!! We got a huge combo platter of Tacos and bbq and it was all amazing!
Unfortunately yelp won't let me go past 5 stars and this place deserves wayyy more! Before I moved my dad and I would come almost every Saturday together for lunch since I was 10-11 years old. This restaurant has a tex mex flair. We have had so many different things on the menu we highly recommend. Baby Back Ribs w/the spicy rub, the special : Sliders & Street Tacos and Chicken /Steak Fajitas for entrees. For starters we suggest going with guacamole or a soup. There's homemade chicken tortilla & Black bean soup. The chips are great and salsa tastes fresh medium spice level. To finish we recommend the award winning flan its *chefs kiss*. Each table also has some homemade sauces that range Fromm mild to spicy and a bit Smokey you can add to your BBQ or Tacos. Since the flood the place has had a total makeover which looks fabulous , including now being able to order cocktails which was totally needed now the place I grew up with is growing up with me too now we can both drink! haha. The owners Mike & Mel are so kind and provide such a great menu & specials options. Their staff are amazing people and so helpful when it comes to new people coming to try out Grub Hut for the 1st time. I also included some take out pictures as I wasn't able to find any pictures of the BBQ options I ate while dining in.
This was our first time back at Grub Hut in a while and we're really glad we got to stop in for happy hour. Food: The food here is always excellent. We got assorted appetizers off of the happy hour menu and all were great. The Baja flat and tacos were probably our favorite. I've always loved their fries too! Ambiance: the interior is warm and inviting. It's a smaller place but well decorated and cozy Service: Our server Danelle was the best. She checked up on us several times during our visit and ensured that we had what we needed. She was so sweet and very helpful! Value: the happy hour prices range from $4-$6 for all the dishes. Really great value and I highly recommend getting a few to try
Grub Hut never disappoints. Funnily enough I was in the mood for Taco's and couldn't think of a better place to curb my craving. Got here & had the meatloaf it just sounded so good! We started off with the coconut shrimp taco's however, which were banging! Nice and crispy, not greasy, tasty, mango salsa was delicious. The meatloaf was a mix of chorizo, sausage & beef (if I remember correctly) with a nice flavored gravy that wasn't too thick (I hate thick blobby gravies) served on a bed of cilantro rice (their sweet potato mash was unavailable) and julienned carrots & zucchini. Mike's Famous Cheesesteak was cooked to perfection, cheese melted beautiful over the shredded rib eye with onions & peppers, comes with two sides, corn bread & fried brussel sprouts (or little balls of hate as we call them) were chosen. The staff are always great, helpful, cheery. Great place & now serves alcohol also
Not worth the hype. The food and the people here were just doing way too much. We ordered several items but the guac and queso were truly the stars of the show. Everything else was either bland, salty, or the flavors didn't make sense. We came here specifically for the beef ribs, which are still on the menu, only to be told they didn't have them because they make "good food" and the beef ribs weren't very good. There were a few other items no longer available. The Nola enchiladas were not good at all. If there was one dish that was truly doing too much and not enough simultaneously, it's that one. I also want to point out that they charge $3 for more chips and salsa. We ordered two appetizers with chips and asked for additional salsa just to even it out. Instead of being like, "oh, yeah, salsa DOES go with guac and/or queso," our waitress (who looked like Rachel Dolezal) was like "I will have to charge you." We didn't even want more chips - just salsa. This place is small, they have Pepsi products, they burnt my plátanos, and frankly, I wouldn't return.
GRUB Hut is one of my favorite local restaurants for BBQ and Tex-Mex food. They offer a number of daily specials in addition to the regular menu, so it is always difficult to choose. My companion had the two-enchilada platter, pulled pork with red sauce, and brisket with molé sauce. I got the "Yankee BBQ" sandwich, which is fried bologna, pork belly, smoked bacon, sautéed onions, melted cheese and pickle chips on a brioche bun, with creamy coleslaw and baked beans on the side. It was delicious, but this is not health food.
Grub Hut is an interesting little place that offers Mexican BBQ and house-made cocktails at a fair price. We stopped in as a party of 2 on a Wednesday evening and there were only 2 other tables when we arrived, but nearly every table was full by the time we left. They also offer outdoor seating as well. Our server let us know that everything except the ketchup and mayo is made in house, which is great. A small basket of chips and salsa were dropped off quickly, but we had to ask for water more than once before it was dropped to the table. The salsa was quite good and we would have got some more chips, but a refill is $4 and the portion size didn't feel worth it to us. We decided on the avocado tacos since sadly they were out of the coconut shrimp tacos we originally wanted. We had a pulled pork sandwich and salmon entree for our mains, which we both liked. I had Mac and cheese on the side, which wasn't something I would order again, but the fries were good. There are 4 different house sauces to try and I found the Honey Chipotle to be my favorite. Overall, this is a nice local joint that we would consider coming back to try some more dishes if we are in the area. read more

This is a cute little BBQ and Tex-Max BYOB place. Friendly and fast service with tasty food. We got the Caesar salad, coconut shrimp tacos (an appetizer that I got as my main), and the short ribs. Everything was good and portion sizes are pretty generous. We found parking pretty easily out front at around 7pm on a weekday night. read more
I cannot believe how many times I drove past this place for the last 18 years and have never popped in!!! 2 of my buddies swear by this spot and have been trying to get me to go recently so had to stop in when in the area... I don't know where to start - went in for a late lunch and it was literally the owners running food and serving tables. Talk about sweat equity! The food was unreal!! I have never seen a more unique menu of southwestern BBQ & a Cali-Tex flare. All the specials sounded incredible and revolve weekly so had to try one of those as well as some tacos of course. Also there salsa was some of the best I've ever had. Literally took a container to go. I also almost went back twice in one day since I was too full to have dessert. Tiny cozy BYO spot with a handful of tables, open kitchen and walls full of much deserved accolades over the years. What a comeback they have made since being decimated by flooding. Keep it up Mike & Mel - I plan on trying everything on the menu. read more

Food is always outstanding here. We usually order takeout, but the restaurant itself isn't the largest inside, but they can get busy. There's little tvs with either the local games or news on, and a Southwest vibe to the decorations since it is a Tex-Mex BBQ place. The baby back ribs are what's in the photo. Weren't overcooked where the meat falls of the bone, they were nice and tender to get a clean cut and bite. The best part about Grub Hut is you get a healthy portion of whatever you order. The pulled pork sandwich, the tenders, all excellent. Grub Hut is that little dive you might pass right by heading into Manville, but it should be a place you stop at when you're hungry. read more

The restaurant has amazing food. I just used hut to cater a party and they exceeded my expectations. Wow! I was a bit of a pain as I wanted things that were not on the menu and they happily obliged. I highly recommend them to cater your next party! Thank you to Mike and Mel and the team. read more

Was not bad few pros and cons. I just wasn't really blown away, I've definitely had better Mexican food, and food in general. It's very pricey for what it is in my opinion. I did order my steak for my fajitas well done, but they were tough very hard to chew. I know you're thinking "duh it's well done you heathen" BUT HEAR ME OUT, steak should be still nice and juicy. It was still alright not super flavorful. My boyfriend on the other hand did enjoy his meal, but he says the same it was pretty pricey for what it was and he thought the meat was off. Sweet plantains were very yummy, they can be hard to get right so I applaud them. And our waitress was nice as well. Overall, you're not missing out, but still a cute place! read more

Ordered the brisket enchiladas. Beans and rice were meh. When the bill came I was charged $2 extra for brisket. There was no notice of this on the menu. Called the manager over and she said I apologize but I can't change it. Never heard of a manager that could not fix an error Not worth the trip read more

I am sorry for the inconvenience but the server on that day did not…
I have driven by this place many times in the eight years I've lived in NJ. From the outside, the place is unassuming and looks super-divey. However, when you enter, this place is a bustling enterprise. It's a BYOB joint, so prepare accordingly. My wife had the chili, which was flavorful and fresh, albeit a little too spicy for her tastes. I had the chicken tortilla soup which was seasoned well, with plenty of chicken and vegetables. For our entrees, my wife had the ground beef enchiladas with the red sauce. It came with rice and black beans. Absolutely delicious and filling. I had the platter with brisket and a leg quarter. I tried a couple of the sauces that they placed on the table. I preferred the house the best. I had the NC vinegar slaw and plaintains as my sides. The slaw needed a bit more seasoning, (S&P) but the plaintains were sweet and delicious. Our server was polite and attentive. If you want great Tex-Mex, hit this place up. There's not a lot of tables, but there are enough. read more
This is one of my family's favorite restaurants, we used to eat here once a month before moving to Florida. Overall a 5 star! Food - 5 star - This is a local spot with a "unique" mix of bbq and Mexican food. Everything I have ordered has always been great. This time we ordered the burritos with Xmas sau that my son loved, my daughters favorite avocado tacos, and my wife had the keto version of the but Chicken sandwich (no bread). I experimented with the fried ribs, good solid 3.7, next time I'll get the BBQ platter or regular ribs. Ambience - the location is on a main street by a busy plaza, the place itself is small but when it's nice outside they have outside seating and it is great. Service - consistently 5 star - always polite and attentive. read more

The man and I *LOVE* small, hole-in-the-wall places with great food and service. B-I-N-G-O!! Grubhut. The chips and salsa that came out were delish! Unsweetened ice teas were great, too. I ordered the Texas Two Step and my man got Mel's Country Ribs. Turn around time was great; 15 min tops. Texas Two Step came with Pulled Brisket, small rack of ribs, beans and Mexican street corn. I ate it all except for 1 rib!!! The man loved the Country Ribs. There were brussel sprouts that came with it, as well as Mexican street corn. The brussel sprouts were delicious! However they cooked them (deep fried? Not sure...) they cooked the bitterness out. The street corn was great, and as messy as to be expected. Flan was for dessert. Very tasty. This place was one helluva find. We *will* be frequenting this restaurant, fo' sho'. read more
