One thing I didn't like was last time I came on a Monday and it's $5 margaritas on Mondays but when I asked the waitress for drink specials she said they didn't have any. She wasn't truthful and while I understand she would want a higher bill for higher tip, it's not a good way to earn customer loyalty. Skip the esquites, they are $8 and use canned corn not fresh. It can be difficult to communicate with the staff who don't all speak English and unfortunately, I don't speak Spanish. On one visit we ordered nachos as an appetizer, our entrees came out really quickly so we asked for it to be packed to go. The server misunderstood and disposed of the food. Food is inconsistent but spicy chicken is always delish. Also a big fan of their burgers. When done right it's the best burger in the neighborhood. Delivery is often incorrect, but I keep going back for the delicious tacos. Even when they send me the wrong protein and no salsa! Also be aware that if you order the guacamole, it doesn't mean they're gonna send you any chips. I learned that the hard way. The restaurant itself is cute. Acapulco is one of the Mexican restaurants that delivers to us from Grubhub so we have their food often. The first thing that goes on the order are the Plátanos Maduros, which are a dessert. They are fried plantains with dulce de leche and condensed milk. We have had plátanos maduros at more than a dozen restaurants and the Acapulco Restaurant version is the best we've ever had! The second thing that goes on the order is the Nopal or grilled cactus? It's simply delicious. The third thing that goes on the order are the tacos and we've had every kind and they're all delicious. On a late night when there's nowhere else open this place is definitely my go to. I was a bit disappointed that was a bit far from my house but it was well worth the 15 minute drive at 1 AM. They know how to do it and they know how to do it right the food was amazing. This was much bigger than it appeared from the outside. The kitchen was in the front and a dining area towards the back. The order was picked up and ready upon arrival. They had lots of options ranging from tacos to pizza to burgers with reasonable pricing. For starters, the guacamole ($6.95) and the queso fundido con chorizo ($9.45) was ordered. The guacamole was fresh and came with what appeared to be homemade chips, very appetizing. The chorizo came with onions in a chipotle sauce with tomatoes along with cheddar and Oaxaca cheese. I was hoping this would have a more of a kick to it, but it did not. Regardless, this was tasty, great combination of the cheeses and baked chorizo. It went even better when I made my own mini burrito with it. For an entree, I had the plato marimba ($13.95). This consisted of chorizo, salted steak, chicken, Serrano chiles, refried beans, and rice. There were also 3 tortillas provided. This was alright. There were large pieces of chicken and steak given. The chicken was flavorful while the steak was bland. The chorizo had an odd texture, but had plenty of flavor. The combination of all the toppings made up for the poor taste of the steak. Great place to get traditional Mexican food! Strip mall located right off the highway. There is a great vibe here with Latin music playing and beautiful decor on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. Their drink menu is large and they have tons of flavored margaritas (regular or frozen, or you can get a pitcher of any flavor for only $29!). They also have a ton of options on their menu - plenty of appetizers, entrees, and specials to pick from. Both Kevin and I ordered tacos (I got fish and he got chicken). Positives: they give you double layers on the soft tacos, which makes them easier to eat; tacos were juicy; food was filling; great presentation; amazing margarita! Negatives: you can only order 3 of the fish tacos (no less); tacos weren't super flavorful - they only come with cilantro and onions and whatever meat you choose. Food was very good. Unfortunately the service was poor as our waitress barely acknowledged us at all, never checked on the meal, had to ask for utensils, water, the tortillas that COME with the meal. The other waitress in there was very attentive to her tables; ours was not. Also, they added unexplained charges to the bill -- added $1 to the margarita with no explanation and then added an 18% service fee that was for "overhead of operating and maintaining the restaurant". Then a TIP should be added on top of that. Although the food was really good I cannot recommend based on the poor service we received and all the unexplained extra charges. read more

My fiancé and I FINALLY got around to trying this place out after hearing good things (and it's only 10 mins away from us on 202). The unassuming exterior may lead you to believe it's nothing but a small takeout joint (especially if you enter via the left door), but the door on the right will bring you into a nice sit-down space with legit tables and a full bar - complete with TVs! We decided to sit at the bar and started with margaritas (we opted for the 1800 silver tequila which is one of my favs). They were a bit on the sweet side but delicious. Because my fiancée had never tried mole before, we split the burrito mole as an appetizer and it didn't disappoint. The mole was really on point. For dinner my boo opted for the molcajete and I went with the tacos de alambre (chicken was my meat selection). The molcajete was nice but some of the thinly sliced meat was over cooked which made it a little tough to chew. The shrimp also had a mushy texture suggesting they were not bought fresh/not best quality. Was really hoping for that meaty texture. My tacos, however, were on point. Perfect tortilla, and the meat/onion/cheese/cilantro/etc center was delicious. We were provided a little carousel of three different sauces and I tested those out on each of my three tacos. The red sauce with a hint of spice was my favorite, the salsa verde second and what seemed to be homemade salsa came in third. Best tacos in the area! Their tacos come in an order of 3 but you have to get the same type of meat (chicken, beef, pork, etc.). I always get the chicken and beef. They are more traditional in that they are only topped with cilantro and white onions and it is amazing! Their salsas are very good too. I've also had the Papas Bravas here and it's so simple but so good. Their guacamole is well-made also. I've done takeout and dine-in here. Takeout is fast service. Dine-in has friendly service. Based on such high ratings, we went to Acapulco on Thompson Street in Raritan. It is located in a small strip center on Thompson Street adjacent to Route 202 and has it's own tiny off street parking lot. The small lounge/restaurant was busy as was the kitchen with takeout orders. The dark painted room had many televisions tuned to soccer. We were instructed to sit where ever we liked and soon had dos cervazas, tortilla chips with bean sauce and menus. The servers reminded me of a favorite cartoon I watched as a child. It was called Ricochet Rabbit. Sheriff Ricochet had a heavy Mexican accent and agilely bounced around a breakneck speeds while his sidekick Deputy Droopalong just moved slow and steady. After they dropped off our food they never returned to see if we needed anything. We certainly would have ordered more drinks. The energetic one came back as we finishing. The menu has an interesting mix of mostly Mexican dishes along with American and Italian standards. My wife had Chicken Fajitas which was good but the wraps were not. They did not have chimichangas so I settled on the carne enchilada which I thought was a carne asada enchilada. I admit it, I am a Gringo and my command of the Spanish language sucks but I still can't get over what I was served. These spicy flat pieces of pork had the chewable tenderness of a workboot. When I found out it was made from pork shoulder I was even more shocked. Pork shoulder is what Carnitas is made from and it is tender because it is slow cooked. This was not. I don't know if it was a good or bad example of carne enchiladas but I wouldn't feed something this tough to an animal much less a human. Bad service, bad food, 2 star evening. read more

The menu offers a large variety of options for whatever food or beverage you are craving. The food itself is delicious. I think it's rare that you go to a sit down Mexican place and they charge you for chips and salsa. Ordered fajitas, the smallest pieces of chicken and steak - almost looked like dog food. Having been to Mexico several times; I can say I was very satisfied with my experience at Acapulco. We were given chips and three sauces right away. Small basket of chips but enough since we also wanted to order an additional appetizer. I ordered the papas bravas (a large plate of french fries) (~$6) covered with a chipotle sauce and mayo sauce. Heavy in the calories but satisfying - may not order this again next time to try some other of the appetizers (the table over ordered calamari and I think I will have to try that next time!). Large horchata ($3): Super tasty, cold, and satisfying. Comes in a large beer stein! Sopes with chorizo (~$8) - satisfying and delicious. The dough for the sopes was both crispy and soft; just perfect! The chorizo was actually legit, not like some places I've had chorizo that just wasn't right. The toppings of lettuce, tomato, and crema were refreshing and a perfect balance to the heaviness of the beans and meat. Corn soft taco with carne asada ($2.50) - This brought me straight back to Mexico with the fresh taco trucks along the side of the road. Wow. So simple but the flavors are NOT at all simple. Just everything. Will definitely get more of this next time. My husband also ordered: T-bone steak with your choice eggs (comes with string beans and fries) ($18). This definitely did not feel like a Mexican dish but it was indeed good. He enjoyed the meat as it was cooked medium and was still tender. I thought it could use a tad bit more salt. He asked for over easy eggs but they came out sunny side up; not the end of the world (but if you are picky with your eggs.....haha). If this was served with rice and beans instead, it could have felt a tad bit more Mexican in style. Overall, great flavors and great experience. I've been coming to this place for a while now and have been continuously disappointed with the slow and lacking service. Plan to spend an hour and a half for a meal that would take 40 minutes anywhere else. Completely over priced post Covid and food quality is definitely sub par. Used to have fresher food and better quality, and now, they don't even offer chips and salsa. As far as I'm concerned this was the last time I tried. No more disappointing food and service.
