First time here. Right in town. If your in the area its a must. The service was absolutely amazing. The establishment was clean and felt authentic warm and cozy. But the feed was absolutely amazing. The plantains were the best I have had in a very long time. Perfectly cooked. The food is very very filling. The seating area is not that big but still can serve a decent amount of people if you want to go in a group. I def plan on going back with more room in my belly for desert.

This review has 2 experiences to tell you about. First of all I have several friends who have been telling me to try Casa Luna for several years. Last Friday I had a wonderful Chicken Quesadilla with incredible guacamole dip. Very flavorful and most filling. The staff was very attentive and told me to stop by for breakfast the following Sunday (today) so I did. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. Lighting made the room warm and welcoming. I now understand why my friends rave about Casa Luna. My second review is for breakfast. Full disclosure, they are trying it out, so Sunday's only, for now. I hope they are successful with it because I ordered Huevos Rancheros, my test meal for Latin restaurants. It was incredible. The tortillas were perfect, flavor was traditional and I added a few spots of hot sauce. I will absolutely be coming back each Sunday until they decide to make it a more common offering. Whatever, your presence, dinner, lunch, breakfasts on Sunday, come to Casa Luna in Somerville. You'll make it a regular place on your list of favorite New Jersey restaurants. By the way, the coffee was excellent.

This place does not live up to the hype! I was so ready for a nice Mexican meal and was not prepared for what was to come. The menu is so nice but the food does not correlate. The place itself was vibrant and clean. Our waiter went through the special of the day and some of the appetizers. We brought some drinks for the byob. When I think of Mexican food, I think of fresh and homemade salsas and dishes made with love and care. To me the food here did not give me that. Instead it felt like a lot of sandbagging (A lot of dishes that are premade or store bought served on the plate). The rice I felt was cold and overcooked. It's the first time at a Mexican restaurant I did not enjoy the sauce my dish came with. They described it as a butter sauce so I was imagined a velvety, glossy sauce and not an oil sauce. It was also interesting to be served thin cut chicken breasts. From my experience, the chicken at Mexican restaurants are always cut or still on the bone.

This was not rectified. You can improve by not serving burned food. Is there a new owner? Maybe the food has improved.

I ordered a piece of Tres Leches from here and it was pretty good. Much better than most places I have tried but not the best I tried but comes pretty close as many other places don't even come close to this. I definitely will recommend it their Tres Leches. Great customer service too and the place is very clean.

Very nice seating area outside and inside . Service was good . It got busy after we were seated so it took long time to get our ordered items . They serve chips and salsa with entrees order and extra for green hot sauce for chips. Quantity of good and preparation of our chili poblano was good with rice and beans on side.

The carne asada dish is NOT flank steak. It's probably a roast beef. Could've used a topping because it didn't have the fatty texture the flank steak has - I asked for chimmichurri but it's "Argentinian". It's not Mexican but it pairs well with a carne asada dish.

My family and I frequent Casa Luna and it's our favorite Mexican restaurant nearby. Food: everything that we have is consistently good. Some of are favorites are the chicken chimichanga (packed with flavor and covered in a delicious sauce), shrimp mojo de ajo (not picture but a must have) and the buffalo wings. It might feel strange to get buffalo wings at a Mexican restaurant but they're my favorite here. Ridiculously crispy and a good size. Service: our servers have always been great. Everyone is really kind and will consistently check in. Ambiance: I have to get an update picture but they recently redid the inside and it's really nice. The space is warm and inviting with bright decor. Value: all of the dishes are reasonably priced. Definitely check out their lunch specials or taco Tuesday for a great deal!

    Suadero Taco Platter

The guacamole to start was good, the chips were decent, and the salsa was enjoyable. For dinner, I had a Suadero Taco Platter. Ordering it with rice and beans I was somewhat surprised with a ball of rice and beans in a small cup but on the good side that left the tacos alone. The other item of note was that these tacos were impossible to pick up. They were really a knife and fork thing and that was okay with me. The taste was the real surprise and I thought they were outstanding! This is in a part of Somerville I did not even know existed. It is not that far off the main drag but you do wonder if you are looking at the map correctly when walking to it. Speaking of walking to it... there is parking at the location part there is a total of three or four slots so that is going to be random luck. Street parking should be open with the location but this is Somerville and depending on the hour and day remember to bring your quarters!

Where can I start! Casa Luna is a great place. The food is delicious, the staff are kind and friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxing and makes it a great place to go for date night. It's BYOB, so make sure to buy some wine beforehand for their housemade sangria! We got the Casa Luna chicken, Fish Tacos, and Chicken Empanadas - looking forward to heading there again soon! @rissyjayeats

And…read moresince I used to go to Jose Tejas regularly when my workplace was across from one, I can offer the following comparisons: * Ambiance: Quieter here. More upscale. Instead of going for the festive angle of Mex, they go for the decor. * Service: Slower. I remember Jose Tejas always had someone come by your table to refill drinks, check on your order... not here. Ordering was awkward, although at least they got our orders right. We just got water - I would have loved to specify "lemon, no ice", but both waters arrived with lemon and ice. * Food: OK. Edit. I was going to say "smaller", but then I saw that Tejas' portions started downsizing around the time we left town. So maybe it's actually on par here. I really liked the taste of my barbacoa, but the barbacoa taco eater across from me was less impressed. The rice and beans were very m'eh; I think you get more flavor at Jose, but second edit - my other review said you get more salt, so that might again cancel the advantage. You do get a nice side of guac on your house specialty plate, which is rare to find for free (not even listed on the menu), but I paid more than my date for what might have even been less food. (She got three tortillas, I got two...) Finally, the meal started with smoky but rather flavorless salsa, no heat at all, that came with our thin opening chips - the salsa is hotter at Tejas, the chips are thicker, but much saltier. * Intangibles: This one's in a mall. Restaurant wasn't all that crowded, but parking isn't the easiest with all the other shops. Whereas Jose was standalone, but so crowded that parking wasn't the easiest either. Final edit. If you put the two restaurants side by side, I would pick the Jose I used to know by a nose, but Uncle Julio's wins over the last time I went to Jose. I would have to go back to compare. Caveat eator.

Once we were seated, it took about 20 minutes before anyone came to our table. When someone finally did, he was very apologetic and welcoming. Our server, Luis, was great--he took the time to walk us through the menu and checked on us throughout the meal. Excellent customer service on his part. I ordered the Carne Asada, a marinated 21-day aged outside skirt steak, but unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the flavor. It tasted pretty bland to me, and the side dish wasn't what I expected. I was anticipating jasmine rice, but it tasted more like quinoa. Overall, the food just wasn't my thing, so I don't see myself returning. Delivery is often incorrect, but I keep going back for the delicious tacos. Even when they send me the wrong protein and no salsa! Also be aware that if you order the guacamole, it doesn't mean they're gonna send you any chips. I learned that the hard way. The restaurant itself is cute. The restaurant serves delicious, fresh food in a very homey atmosphere. The servers are kind, attentive, and so helpful; from time to time, you might even be served by Pancho himself, who is an absolute gem! We started with the guacamole and chips, followed by the nachos, where you can customize them with your choice of meat. For our entrees, we ordered the Huaraches with steak, which is a large, handmade, slightly fried tortilla topped with beans, onions, lettuce, crema, and cheese. We also got the Tacos, which come five to an order. You can choose up to two meats, but we stuck with the classic Al Pastor. The meat was so tender and flavorful, served with the traditional onion, cilantro, and lime on the side. Finally, and my personal favorite, we had the Picaditas. Like the tacos, you can choose two meats, so we went with Al Pastor and steak. Similar to the Huaraches, these are four smaller, slightly fried homemade tortillas with green and red sauce on the bottom, topped with lettuce, onion, and cheese! To wash everything down, we had the homemade Agua de Jamaica (hibiscus tea), though their Horchata is also delicious. Overall, this is one of my favorite spots; it reminds me of my childhood, and the food is just as good as what you'd find in Mexico. If you're looking for an authentic experience, this is it!

The fish tacos, though they looked plain, were so flavorful and crispy and we couldn't get enough. The other types of tacos were also packed with flavor and so incredibly addicting. We also shared nachos as an appetizer and to our surprise, the chips were fresh and the nachos were topped with tender pieces of steak. It's hard to find a good pozole, and this one was filled with meat and honestly could have served as two meals with how much was given to us.
