This successful Portuguese/Philippine BBQ house has recently expanded to three locations (Flemington & Middlesex) in addition to their anchor kitchen in Ewing, NJ. It has adapted to its constituency by braiding its menu to cover more South/Central American tastes with things like empanadas, Brazilian steak and tres leches cake, as well as its nearly Polish neighbors with kielbasa sandwiches and platters. Their uniqueness comes from their cooking style - open pit hot coal rotisserie that is visible from the cashier's perch. Not only is it entertaining to watch chicken and pork/beef ribs doing that slow spinning tango, but the aroma from the juices dripping onto the hot ash creates a strong reaction in your mouth and stomach that sets the mood for a BBQ meat feast. Just sit down, relax and enjoy the wait. You may not want to leave. There is a downside to this style of meat prep, in that it does not involve a traditional American smoker, so the finish is not as tender. The meat does not simply pull off the bone, but requires some effort with knife & fork or incisors. It is still delicious, but may not be what was expected. We ordered half pork ribs/pork Hawaiian BBQ combo, with sides of black beans and corn bread, as well as 3 empanadas (chicken/beef) as apps. It took about 20 minutes for preparation and packaging for takeout. I chatted up the cashier Dory with questions about the business. She was friendly and happy to share what she knew. We had enough food for four people. Everything was tasty and distinct enough from American BBQ to appreciate the differences. Special mention to the pork Hawaiian which had a mild sweetness from its marinade that was pineapple inflected, and the ribs which had the anticipated smoky savory flavor. Black beans were decent, and the corn bread a soft rather than dense texture. Overall, a quality meal with plenty left over. It's easy to see why Pork Chops is successful. Next time they expand I hope they consider coming across the Delaware River into Bucks County. We have plenty of room for something this different and fun to eat.

I had no intention of going here on that day , I did notice it on Yelp months ago, but I guess it didn't make much of an impression. But my plan to try Georgian food was foiled( restaurant was locked up with no sign as to why) so I did what any Yelper would do, a local Yelp search. I noticed this interesting business again, and it was less than a mile away from the Trenton Farmers market. I was hoping for tacos but not on the menu, then I saw it, sirloin steak sandwich. I knew it would not be a Philly style, but I've had some good luck with it's thicker cousin too. And empanadas have not let me down as of late, 2 each of beef and chicken. I thought it kind of ironic that this is housed next to a gym in the smaller building in this strip mall complex. And with lurid graphics outside. I could smell the food as soon as I pulled into my spot. It's a casual but recently updated shop with a few seating areas that contain a total of 12 or more tables. I could clearly see a charcoal rotisserie set up at the front of the open kitchen, that was promising. This Portuguese/Pilipino shop also does bubble teas. And that was causing a delay, the customer service employee was in charge of making those and had a few orders to fill when I walked in. Eventually I was acknowledged and told my order was almost ready. I inquired about the rice pudding I saw in the dessert case and added one to my order. It took a bit longer than I expected to get home, so I was worried about the roll. But as I unwrapped it all seemed well. This reminded me of an IPB torp, and it was overflowing with thick steak slabs. They didn't have provolone, when I asked what kind of cheese was available, the reply was "yellow". So I did without, just sautéed onions and for some reason a few pieces of lettuce and thin tomato slices. The onions were nicely cooked too, on reflection I should have had peppers added. The steak was 95% completely tender and well seasoned too. I was enjoying a thicker bite to this meat. I'd get again, with just peppers and onions. I had the empanadas for another meal. They were also unique. The dough was likely wheat( I prefer corn) but it had a sweet flavor so may have been mixed with something else, but very crisp and tasty. The filling of chicken was large chunks of white meat in a bbq style sauce unlike any I've had. Very good. The beef had a similar flavoring but maybe less of it, with ground beef. I'd reorder both again, and they were a bargain at $2 each. The steak came with good fries too. As for the rice pudding, it was very good. A generous dusting of cinnamon on top, dense and creamy with perfectly cooked rice. I rarely order rice pudding, it's kind of a nostalgia thing for me. This was a comforting version. I'm close to this shop often so I plan on trying a Pilipino dish or combo next time. Well worth a try if you are nearby and looking for something a bit different.

The meats were flavorful but sadly a bit dry. The chicken was driest. The steak was too well done when we asked for medium well. The rice and cornbread were very good. Not sure if it'll be different for dinner. Very good tres leche.

This was not true before .....ordering over the phone was a nightmare. And just before it closed, it had all it's little rumblings of problems and if you're a loyal customer of a business, you can see a decline or improvement and I could definitely see the decline here, but.... NOW I see how it has emerged as a fantastic sandwich place unlike anything else around here.... so even if you have other sandwich places you like.... you have to also like this one ....because nothing else is like it! You go in and they say hi ....everybody's laughing...There's lots of people interacting... a giant menu, which is fantastic and on the wall. Good prices and great bread.!!! ....really when it comes to a sandwich, bread is everything! Thank you, guys. I'm right around the corner and I'm at your door all the time. I'm very high maintenance. I'm very picky. So when I say you're good, you're good.

You can eat there but I chose not to. Nothing wrong with it. It's for a few tables and you can eat in. I opened it up. Smelled good and took a bit it was delicious. This sub was fantastic. Bread hearty but not too hard. Meat tender, peppers, lettuce and tomato just enough to complement the meat. Same with dressing. I got a small which was big but maybe I should have the medium. My own experiences here tended to be in the 3.5 or higher range but I feel confident that rounding…read moreup to 4 is warranted. First of all, it is the closest takeout restaurant to the Civil courthouse( also known as the place where potential jurors come to check in and wait to be called) I love that they share a small storefront with a florist, but it does make for tight quarters, esp during the ordering and waiting process. And the customer service was top notch. My first visit was for a lunch order. It was difficult trying to read the specials of the day menu, let alone the standard menu. This was due to timing, several people were ordering and or waiting. Once chicken quesadillas caught my eye I stopped reading. My selection came out fairly quickly and was packaged with small containers of salsa Fresca and sour cream. But I'm pretty sure menu read that some type of salad was also included, this was left out. They were pretty good too, well seasoned pulled chicken and cheese, the flour tortillas were perfectly grilled and stayed that way even in the package. It was a nice serving and I would have really enjoyed had it come with a fresh and simple salad. I would order again as well. My next two visits were just for a pick me up bakery item. The pumpkin muffin was excellent. The chocolate chip one was not very good. Not enough chips and a dry texture. But during each trip the owner was right up front and being helpful and friendly to all. I feel that this spirit does go into the food that is prepared and served here. Good spot for locals, workers and even the confused juror.

Lexi Lu's Café is a strange setup…read more Up front it is a well designed, attractive take out shop. Walk past their kitchen and it is Amoroso's Flower Shop, where you can still buy a bouquet of roses for your anniversary. Love the adaptive reuse of this old storefront on S. Broad Street, Trenton; right across from the very old courthouse. It is hard to find driving by, and there are seldom parking spaces within the surrounding area. But, if you work or live in the neighborhood, or go to the new civil or criminal courts, you can walk over and pick up soup, sandwich, breakfast muffin, etc., on your way to the office. It closes at 2:00 pm. Service is exemplary given how small the space is. The two friendlies who helped me out were attractive and efficient. One made up my grilled chicken chipotle wrap, while the other provided the history of the business and worked the register. Both were happy to pose for photos when I pulled out my Yelp screen after ordering. You can see the results. The lunch was very good. Fresh, quality ingredients and TLC. Plenty of stuffing for a large wrap. It was enough for two meals. @ $8.50, it was a spectacular deal. Too bad there is no place to sit, because the room is comfy in a cramped way, and it would be nice to absorb more atmosphere from the winsome workers.
