I've picked up food from JC Teriyaki two days in a row to try a few of their main dishes to see what was happening there. I've eaten their Fried Chicken and Hibachi Chicken, along with sides of Lima Beans, Potato Salad, Corn Bread and the Cabbage/Carrots combo that comes with the Hibachi offerings. JCT sits on Parkside Avenue just north of Olden Avenue Extension in a somewhat rundown retail strip center which also has a Chinese takeout joint and an Italian pizzeria. Nice to have options. While I enjoyed the entertainment of watching these three guys preparing the food, the actual finished products were only average. The Fried Chicken combo of breast and wing was nicely meaty and never frozen, however the coating did not have very much flavor compared to the standards we all know. It lacked sufficient spices to really stand out. The white meat was plump and juicy and would have really shined with the right flour mix. The accompanying Potato Salad was nicely sweet, but the Lima Beans were supersized and mushy. The Corn Bread was pretty good. The Hibachi Chicken order was large and with the Veggies really weighed down the container. It was cut into small strips and doused well with Hibachi Sauce throughout grilling. It was interesting to see the American short order grill used for a Japanese dish. I had not thought of that before, but it was cool to put those two cultural icons together. The chicken was tender and had a nice flavor. The veggies of Steamed Cabbage and Carrots were a little boring; lacking much taste. JC Teriyaki is a mixed bag. I like the concept demonstrating the cross-cultural bonds between Southern American cooking and Japanese grilling, but had higher expectations for the actual results. Perhaps, the pricing of the meals (quite low) interferes with the ability to really pull out the stops and make the meals memorable. 3.5 Stars is probably the right place to be here, but I want to encourage an upgrade in performance quality which won't happen without a little mild criticism.

This place doesn't serve authentic southern or Japanese hibachi style food but it tastes good in general and it's cheap!

Chicken and shrimp with rice and veggies. Yummy

Wow, what a find, really! I happened to be in the area on business at lunch time two weeks ago and…read morenoticed a few people walking out with take out bags. Since I am always interested in hunting down new food, especially within several miles of my house, I Yelped this place up and looked at the photos and menu and went right in. This is a cafeteria style restaurant with eat in tables, but I suspect for lunch most of the business is take out. They had a variety of items you can choose a lunch combo from which usually includes a protein and two sides. I opted for the salmon, green beans and plain rice. There were many other options, like fried chicken, jerk chicken, etc. as well as many other sides like mac and cheese, yams, greens, salmon fried rice, etc. While waiting in line for my turn, the slices of carrot cake (various cakes were positioned on a table on the side of where the line forms) and I were having a staring competition, so I got two for "the kids". Finally while ordering my meal, the jerk chicken looked interesting so I got a side of that, expecting to have a piece at home and share the rest with my family (just to try it out to see if it was any good). My salmon was moist and flavorful, the green beans was cooked well and still maintained their crunch (don't forget this is cafeteria style so things are not cooked as you order) and the rice was super flavorful. Ate that in my car and was extremely happy. However, the amazement started when I got home. I tried a piece of the jerk chicken and was simply in awe that I never knew this place existed. I had one piece and when I returned a few hours later to try another, the entire portion was gone!! My wife told me it was the best chicken she has had in a long time. Now the carrot cake, not made there, was ridiculous as well. The icing was rich with a slight bit of tang. Of two pieces for "the kids" one ended up in my stomach and the other in my wife's! I returned today and got three orders of the the jerk chicken and they threw in one of the moistest most flavorful corn-breads I have had. Definitely my top 5. Unfortunately no carrot cake (thank Gd for my waistline). If you guys are reading this, your food kills it, thank you! If you happen to be in Trenton, live in Morrisville or Yardley, you are missing out if you don't try the Big Easy! Home style cooking with lots of attention to detail and lots of love and it tastes like it 100%

Service was pretty basic. I don't know that it was bad but it certainly wasn't extraordinary. My Mom and Aunt both got salads. I got a hot dog plate and a side salad. My Aunt enjoyed her large house salad. My Mom really didn't like her Greek salad. I ended up eating most of it. They were VERY generous with the feta. Maybe too generous. I thought it was fine. I enjoyed my side salad. The hot dog was interesting. As described on the menu, it is two hot dogs, cut in half lengthwise, then griddled, then put on a hoagie roll. It was unusual. Not bad, just different. The hoagie roll was a bit chewier than a standard hot dog bun. The sauerkraut was good. I had asked for mustard too and they brough it on the side. Overall, an OK experience. I don't know that we'll be back if we are in the area again.
