We moved from Rye quite a few years ago and were in the neighborhood and stopped in today at Poppy's for breakfast. It was wonderful to see that everything is the same. The staff and owner are very friendly and attentive! It is definitely family friendly but it is a bit pricey. They do have sitting on the sidewalk if you don't want to sit inside. My kid was fussy and they had coloring books and toys so definitely ask if you eat inside. We ordered 1 short stack of pancakes with chocolate chips, 1 waffle with fruit (the strawberries were moldy :/ ) , kids size apple juice, cranberry juice and ... which were like $2-3 a pop and a cup of joe. We didn't omelettes which are $19.99 or bacon ... very carb loaded breakfast but came out to be over $50 !! read more

Ordered a simple bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. The bacon was inedible. It was burnt and hard. It looked like it was made last week and reheated several times. The yellow American cheese was clearly processed cheese. How can they charge $10 for a sandwich with cheap, processed cheese? I paid 10 dollars and had reasonable expectations. It seems like because of the location in Rye, NY they overcharged for the sandwich without any quality standards. I took off the bacon and tried to eat the rest. I Ordered an omelette with broccoli, onions, mushrooms and cheese that cost me $22. It was HOrrible. Let me preface this by saying that we've ordered from them a ton of times and we've eaten there many times and though the service is OK , everybody is very nice. I would say out of everything that I've had there, the burger and chicken sandwich are very good, but the last couple of times I've picked up orders from them for breakfast or lunch They have been subpar and I haven't said anything, because I do not typically like to bash restaurants, because sometimes they have awful days, but the last three times we've ordered breakfast, it has been equally awful Coupled with the fact that they are way overpriced, but that's the area I live in, so it is what it is. I'm old school and believe you get what you pay for, but clearly not in this situation. Here is the moral of the story, if you're going to charge me $22 for an omelette, make sure that said omelette fan freaking tastic and not filled with frozen broccoli, which was cold and melted all of the cheese. MY entire tin was waterI gave the sausage patties to my dog and he appreciated it, because they didn't look appealing and the potatoes looked like boiled raw potatoes with no seasoning on it, and not even a tinge of crisp. I've eaten here several times. The service is never great but the food is usually good. Today, though, was unacceptable. They were very busy, which is good to see after what restaurants have been though in the past 2 years. I certainly understand that staffing is difficult since the pandemic so slow service is expected. Nasty, rude service is not! The food was horrific- they should have been embarrassed to serve it. Eggs over hard was served like poached eggs. Silver dollar pancakes were served in a child's plate- 5 DRY silver dollar pancakes for an adult in a plastic dish shaped like a monkey. Crisp bacon was so grossly undercooked it was raw in parts. Most disappointing was how rude the waitress was throughout and especially when we brought this to her attention. I will not return. When faced with not meeting expectations, you can "own it" or "pass the buck". Chirping that you're "busy" is not owning it. Especially at a restaurant. Full tables on a late Sunday morning, we waited 10 minutes to sit outside. After another five minutes, we put our order in ~ 2 egg dishes, single pancake and bagel. Then we waited and waited and waited...40 or so minutes later...With my 4 year old questioning where the bagel is and hoping to stave off a melt down, I went in to inquire about the bagel. Gruffly, I was told that the bagel was about to be up now. Two minutes later a *cold* bagel arrives with cream cream on the side. The cream cheese included specks of something, I assume it was bagel but could not be sure. Throughly annoyed (and slightly hangry), my wife went in to pay for the bagel and cancel the rest of our order. At this point, she was angrily told "do you see how busy we are" and refused payment for the bagel. Note: by this point only two tables outside and a few people inside. It was obvious our order never made it to the kitchen. A few further points... the kid bussing tables should not use the public trash bins nor wipe straw wrappers on to the street ~ both seem wrong. read more

I could honestly enjoy half a Poppy's grilled muffin and coffee for breakfast every morning for the rest of my life. Accessibility There's a step to get inside and the bar counter is not wheelchair accessible either, but there are tables with removable chairs at the back (though the path there is somewhat narrow. First and last time I go to poppy's. The establishment lacks decency in their food. I showed up with high expectations thinking it was going to be a decent diner especially with it being located on Purchase st. The breakfast is way over priced for the quality of food you're getting. My $13 breakfast included stale toast which was far from being toasted, my over medium eggs were over cooked and very greasy as well as home fries. You also get a generous amount of bacon however it was mostly black because of how Burt it was. Your breakfast in complimented with a small coffee and choice of stop&shop brand juice. All your food is cluttered up on a medium size plate. Usually your toast given as a side so you can enjoy your actual food. Perhaps they do this to cover up the mishmash. I've had better eggs for half the price. Not planning on coming back. On the positive side- the staff was friendly. read more

With only 9 tables, 4 servers, 1 bus person there is no reason eating breakfast here should take 90 minutes. But that's Poppy's for you. I asked three separate servers for the check. None friendly. Getting the check took 20 minutes and nearly all the tables were empty. One asked me what I had to drink. I had nothing because Poppy's doesn't care about the environment. Drinks are served in plastic glasses and all the disposable items are bussed not to the restaurant's garbage or kitchen, but placed in a public trash bin where citizen's tax dollars pay for the Poppy's refuse disposal. Is that even legal? I used to take my son here for breakfast - about 10 years ago - because we went to a mommy and me class in the area. The eggs were good and it was a decent place to take a young child - but the lady who cooks the food was NEVER friendly, warm or welcoming, EVER. I mean, we saw her 1-2 times a week for about 2 years and she never said one kind word to me or my young son. EVER. I went with a friend who has eaten there dozens of times and knows the staff and vice versa. We entered, no one said welcome, good morning, nice to see you again. Not a smile or anything close to a pleasant gesture. For the next hour, not a smile or anything resembling decent hospitality. Basically ignored and no one asking how our meal was or few wanted more coffee. So we went to the front counter and paid and even then not a thanks or hope to see you again or how was your meal or good to see you again or have a good day. Not even a smile. I'm kind of, sort of confused with the reviews that I'm seeing. Stayed over at a friend's place in Harrison and we came here for some food. The place is small, yes.. but the food was delish! Had the Low Carb Omelet and a Belgian Waffle on the side (because i crave this all the time). The omelet was more than enough and filled me up quickly and i need to stress how delicious it was. Oh my! Anytime i think of an omelet i think of Poppy's because this has honestly been the best omelet i've had in a while. It really is the kind of place you want in your town, a small old school, family run luncheonette. Unfortunately they charge too much for food that isn't prepared with too much excitement. I went with my girlfriend for breakfast and we weren't too impressed. Service without a smile seems to be the way of doing business here. Some very strange decor and lack of any consistency in the plates and mugs seems a little odd. An uncomfortable look on the faces of other patrons as they were ignored or confused by the poor service. It seems like the staff only brightens up for the regulars that sit at the counter. I have been here twice and can say without any doubt I won't be returning any time soon. Charming from the outside looking in, but the second you sit in this cramped hell hole, all you can do is watch women with long hair and no gloves cook, take money, clean tables, wipe up spills on the floor, and NEVER WASH THEIR HANDS. Poppy's Cafe popped up my Google map request last Sunday morning in search of a local restaurant to eat in on the way home from the Doral Arrowwood Resort. My info said it was 17 minutes away but suddenly my sister said, "There's Poppy's" and I was ever so glad because it was a perfect place to enjoy a delicious breakfast where you could actually watch the cooking. I'm always cooking and it was nice to watch someone else. Chef Gerri got a work out from us. It seemed we tried everything for breakfast - from pancakes, eggs sausages, french toast, bacon, homefries...I'm always partial to homefries and these were delicious! Poppy's Cafe also had samples of corn muffins and I took one home. It was still moist and delicious two days later. Next time I will buy a few and freeze them. Our waitress, Cindy was attentive and helpful when we couldn't make up our minds on what to order. Poppy's decor was whimsical and everywhere a sign or a picture made me smile. The signs adorning the walls are warnings towards the personalities of the girls serving and cooking. They are wonderful conversationalists....only if you are. The staff looked a bit depressed, and lacked any passion for their job. Another downside were the prices, which were just too high to justify what you get. I was in Rye and saw this cute little cafe and thought to myself that I must come back and give it a try with my wife. Today I went back with the company of my wife and the place is cute but small. The menu is not vegetarian friendly so if you are a vegetarian this is not a good choice. I opted to have an Iced Tea and a Tuna Melt and Home Made French Fries. My wife had Water and Tuna on Whole Wheat which came with potato chips. The drinks where served in disposable solo cups and then our meals arrived on white paper plates which were secured in a plastic paper plate holder (cheesy to say the least). The tuna melt was more like a grilled cheese tuna sandwich not a classic open faced tuna melt and the home made fries where oily and limp and flavorless (fryer oil was not hot enough to cook the fries properly and they had no seasoning). My wife's sandwich was as expected but the chips looked like a bunch of crumbs from the bottom of the America's Choice Potato Chip bag that they were serving from. We ate our meal and never saw the server again other than her reflection in the mirror as she stood behind the counter stuffing her face and then handling food without washing her hands. No refills were ever offered on our beverages and we had to hunt the server down to get the bill in order to pay for our meal so we could leave. Shortly after leaving both my wife and I began to feel ill and we will always remember them but not for a good reason, "Poppy's will give you the Poopy's". read more

It looks like the equipment hasn't been changed since the 50s and the rest is a make shift kitchen from Bed Bath and Beyond. Would never go back here. read more
