    Owen Han x The Cocktail Collection Pop-up - 7/17/25
    Alexis M.

Poppy's is a cafe in Brooklyn Heights. Poppy's sells pastries, breads, coffees, teas, as well as some fridged goods. They also have a small Breakfast & Sandwich Menu. This review is mainly based on the fantastic "Owen Han × The Cocktail Collection" Pop-up that was held at Poppy's on 7/17/25. Poppy's- Brooklyn Heights is quaint, w/ outdoor seating & it served as a cool place to have the pop-up event. Poppy's Staff are knowledgeable, & were attentive to customers that came in during the pop-up to purchase cafe goods. Tik Tok "Sandwich King" Owen Han partnered w/ The Cocktail Collection to have complimentary food & cocktail pairings at this event. The pairings were the following: 1.) Owen's Smoked Salmon Focaccia Sandwich w/ The Cocktail Collection's Ketal One Cosmopolitan 2.) Owen's Brisket Sliders (BBQ Sauce, Sautéed Onions, Crispy Shallots, Smoked Gouda & Pickles) w/ The Cocktail Collection's Bulleit Manhattan 3.) Owen's Mini Pecan Pie w/ Caramel Sauce & The Cocktail Collection's Crown Royal Whiskey Sour w/ Black Cherry 4.) Owen's Tiramisu w/ The Cocktail Collection's Ketal One Espresso Martini. We also had The Cocktail Collection's Tanqueray Negroni, Astral Margarita & Bulleit Old Fashioned Cocktails. Owen Han was so kind, personable & lovely. We spoke for a few minutes. He took pictures, helped bring out the pairings & signed his book "Stacked: The Art of the Perfect Sandwich" for indiividuals that purchased it during the event. @owen.han The Cocktail Collection staff were nice & provided information on their products. They had cocktail bottles available for purchase at $11.95 per bottle, which was a great deal. Thecocktailcollection.com @thecocktailcollection Poppy's is close to Borough Hall, & is walking distance from Brooklyn Bridge Park, as well as eateries including Clark's Diner & Vineapple, etc. poppysbrooklyn.com @poppysbrooklyn One can go to Poppy's website to view their current Summer Hours & Poppy's Merch (ex. I've been here several times! Overall I like the drinks but they're overpriced (matcha strawberry was amazing but $10 pre tax is a bit steep). The sandwiches get the job done but aren't super memorable. The pastries are hit or miss. The fig morning bun was by far the best pastry I've had from here. The loaf cakes haven't been particularly memorable and the brownie and glazed flavored sweet bun were both too sweet/intense. So realistically 4 stars for food and drink, 2 stars for outrageous pricing.

Soft opening of Poppy's! I was really excited to see Poppy's open in the Cranberry Cafe space. They were quick to turn this cafe around and did a great job with the buildout inside. It's still their soft opening, but their official opening is Tuesday November 7. I tried their lemon poppyseed cake and a piece of their persimmon focaccia. The focaccia was really delicious and almost had a slight sweetness to it. I could see myself grabbing a slice of this for a light lunch. Admittedly, the poppyseed cake was not very good - but it's still their soft opening and not a fair assessment. Prices seem a little steep ($16 for a salami and tapenade sandwich) but I'm excited and curious to try more things. There's no seating inside, but it looks like a few tables were added in the outdoor dining space. Will be back many times!

I really love the grocery selection at Poppy's. Everything is local, interesting, and feels intentional. The cafe space is not very big and mainly designed for grab-and-go. There are ready to eat and ready to cook meals in the fridge and tons of pastries out on the counter. I absolutely love their buttermilk biscuit ($6) and their many salads ($10-14). However, like many Yelpers have noted, the price range is on the higher side and sometimes the quality of the food simply does not justify the price tag. For example, the 8-piece falafel ($20) was large and came decorated with a sprig of rosemary, but it lacked flavor and texture. I would much rather grab a $5 falafel sandwich made fresh up the street at Heights Falafel. In my opinion, I would recommend mainly the prepared salads as they can stay in the fridge for a good week or so and the pastries.

The best way I can describe the experience: airport food. Do you like mediocre food at high prices? This may be your go to spot. I've been here twice now because I want to give a new business in the neighborhood a chance but for a second time was disappointed. The breakfast sandwiches were a room temperature joke and frankly I feel like an idiot for paying $12 for each of these, before the tip. They have no redeeming qualities. I believe the picture illustrates my point. I'm giving three stars because I do feel their bakery items, like the corn muffin, and the $16 half chicken cutlet sandwich are tasty and the aesthetics are beautiful. Unfortunately, that's not enough for me to come back.

    Half filled cup

If you want super sour and acidic coffee, to get charged $1.50 extra for non-dairy milk, and pay $8 for a half filled coffee cup then this is your place

It's rare to find a place that balances a stunning, high-design space with such warm, attentive service. We explored more of the menu this time, and everything was just as impressive. The oysters were incredibly fresh, clean, briny, and perfectly served. Another standout that I'll definitely be ordering again. Between the atmosphere, the consistency of the food (super yummy), and the thoughtful team, Conwell Hall is quickly becoming one of those places you keep coming back to.

When you enter there is a bar you can sit at and two large high top tables next to it. As you walk further in there is a lounge with couches and various sizes tables. The whole space is surrounded by books! Heaven! We ordered a chai, matcha and a ginger cookie. Shout out to the woman taking my order for comping me my drink for my birthday! Everyone from the staff was friendly - I really enjoyed being there. The only thing I would say is someone should come by to check on the tables more often as I had to return other people's abandoned drinks. But you know what first world problems, am I right? Maybe they can have a sign or mention to customers to return their own cups before leaving. I sort of can't imagine why people don't... It is quite popular spot so you need to be very patient and strategic if you want to grab a table, as well as sprinkled with a little bit of luck. We unfortunately got there a little late. I went there at 3pm and hunted for a table and my friend got there by 330pm. By the time we ordered and started drinking our coffees - we were informed the lounge area will be closed at 4pm to prepare for the evening wine bar. Oh right this cafe turns into a wine bar in the evenings! How cool! At 4pm we thankfully grabbed one of the high tables - sharing it with another couple but it was large enough for the 4 of us. The lights dimmed and the atmosphere changed to more intimate. We unfortunately had to leave at 5pm, but I imagined picking up a James Baldwin book, ordering some white wine and enjoying both.... Mmm definitely next time. Maybe sometimes after work - sounds like a great wind down.

We tried the melon shaved ice $22 for the large which was a bit pricy but it was quite delicious. We were worried that the large might be too much for two people but honestly we were able to finish it without a problem. The melon pieces were sweet, the ice is milk based so it was creamy and flavorful on its own. We barely used the condensed milk that it came with (and we loved how they put it on the side for us instead). At the bottom of the shaved ice was cereal pieces and mochi which gave a nice different texture. We also tried their drinks specifically their blue lemonade and mango-ade which I thought was just ok. The highlight is definitely their shaved ice. Definitely go for the large as the small seemed much smaller and for double the price, you can get almost 2-3x more. Overall: it's a great place to grab a shaved ice and relax . The atmosphere is chill and you can stay without feeling rushed.

What I got instead was a cup of sadness with commitment issues. The shaved ice somehow had no flavor. None. I have had ice cubes straight from my freezer with more personality. I loved seeing the plants along with hints of pink, orange, and yellow throughout the art and furniture. It's a gorgeous space. Service was good, nothing much to mention. For food, we ordered the royal chai, mango lassi, breakfast kathi-rito, and the condensed milk bun. The standouts were the royal chai and the breakfast kathi-rito. The royal chai was creamy, salty, perfect sweet, and silky. It had notes of cinnamon and saffron, paired with sea salt. I loved this drink. The breakfast kathi-rito was tasty. I loved the potatoes, cheese, egg, avocado, and whatever else was in it. The sauce on the side was delicious. Not exactly sure what it was but it was sweet with a kick. The mango lassi did not have enough mango flavor for me, I couldn't justify paying $10 for it. The condensed milk bun was good but it was similar to any other sweet bun in an asian bakery. I'd pass on both of these. Overall, I'd highly recommend checking out Fontainhas. It'd be a perfect spot to check out if you're in the area for the Brooklyn Flea, or just Dumbo.

I'm sad to say that this has turned out to be a disappointment, catering to the Matcha-drinking Alo-wearing DUMBO crowd. One Google reviewer referred to the cuisine here as "gentrified", which I'm inclined to agree with. The filter coffee was absolutely atrocious - one is not supposed to be asked "with or without milk?" when ordering filter coffee. The paneer sandwich was supposedly made with Amul butter, but any charming nostalgic aspect of this dish was removed by the dry layer of ghas-phus above the paneer bhurji. I am all for fusion as the propeler of culinary innovation, but I do not want to live in a future where Sweetgreen has infiltrated the foods that I hold near and dear to my heart.
