To be clear, I didn't actually go to the Pop Fizz brick and mortar shop! We snagged some paletas from the food truck in Hyder Park. I'd been wanting to try Pop Fizz since last year, but with COVID was unable to! They were the perfect after dinner treat on a very hot day! We ended up getting the sandia (watermelon), raspberry and lime. Each one was DELICIOUS! The fruit flavor was so real and we kept trading so that we could have a bit of each. Definitely recommend the paletas. If you see that truck, run to it! We will hopefully get to try more from their shop some time in the future! read more

Though my fellow Yelpers who I/we hold in great esteem lauded this Pop Fizz...Unfortunately, my experience was severely lacking. The Paleta Bar of my fav Coffee dipped in Dark Chocolate bathed in Almonds was not all that. The bar, pulled from a "back freezer" was freezer burned dry tasting ice. The chocolate was pasty and didn't adhere. This crammed little store had poor ventilation. This Pop Fizz seemed more like a nuclear frozen waste station/Ice Station Zebra . Pop fizz is a paleta truck more than anything, with flavors of Mango Habanero, to Cucumber Chile Lime to Cafe con Leche. They also have these ice cream sandwiches and tacos. Hands down 5 stars for the paletas! I have been here many times since they were at the old location and will keep coming back for those frozen treats! They have all of the typical flavors made with real fruit! Occasionally they come out with limited edition flavors that are always worth a taste. They have a nice outside patio to enjoy your treats as well as a small indoor seating area. The owners are very nice and always up for conversation. This most recent visit I tried the food for the first time ever. The Hot Cheetos Carne Asada Fries were calling to me. They were mostly delicious except for the insane amount of salt on the fries which made them inedible. The rest of the concoction was otherwise good. I wish there was more meat for the price. I ordered a side of regular fries for the kids as well and those were over salted as well. My fry loving children didn't eat more than a few each. I'll stick to the sweets next time I'm there. The place is clean and small and tucked right "inside" the Hispanic cultural center. After all the top reviews my wife and I ordered a pair of carne asada burritos. These come with: sour cream, guacamole, carne asada, french fries, cotija cheese, cheddar cheese, beans, and chipotle mayo. The tortilla was grilled on the outside and a little crispy. All these flavors meld together for a delicious taste and topped with some fiery hot sauce, are a true winner. After eating this fiery food, a cold treat is made to order. Oh my! I was so impressed with the big flavors packed into this menu! I was tasked with getting lunch for the coworkers at our in-town work retreat. Typically I love to support local businesses and prefer to give them my business above chains in the area, but I will not be coming back here ever again. We usually bring out of town guests for a treat, I take kids I babysit and at the very least, once a month we come before the happy arte hour and get a popsicle, a snack and a beverage. Quality has continued to decline over the last 8 months but it was convenient so I dealt with it. Not anymore. I first noticed that they closed the window that opens to the ballroom. I understand staffing issues, but it was a hassle because the place is very small and gets congested easily. It's very confusing where the line is, or who is in line because so many people are just standing around. At least in the past, you could order, take a seat and they would come out and call your name. This last time we ordered food the girl at the register told me that we had to wait in the pop fizz lobby or outside. They WOULD NOT bring the food out to the ballroom. I asked when that changed and she said that her boss had just told her. No explanation, that's just the way it is... so why did we even tip? It really seems like a small inconvenience to them for the sake of making a customer happy, but whatever. We waited inside because we didn't want to stand outside in the hot sun and fight the flies off. We did say we wanted to food for "here" but it still came out smashed messily into a styrofoam container. The cheese was burnt, the avocado was bitter and the food was inferior. If I had the energy to fight the crowded, confusing lines, I would have returned it. What a mess. The guy yelling names (for the orders) was extremely rude and inconsiderate. I learned later that his name is Lorenzo. He actually came out and yelled (very rudely) to everyone in the room that if we ordered food it's probably waiting inside. I don't think people knew about the sudden change in policy. It was literally 3 extra steps to give a paying customer their food but for some reason they couldn't be bothered. But again, they still earned tips. I'm so appalled at the blatant disrespect for the customers. If there's some bad blood between the Happy arte hour and the paleteria, then that's between them, but shouldn't be taken out on PAYING customers. I realize that they get very busy for a short period while everyone shows up and gets settled, but it isn't anything new. I'm sure it's stressful, but I've been going for 8 months and I figured out to go early to avoid the crowds. There has been a sign posted that they are hiring, but I question the validity of that. I know of 2 qualified people who applied and never even got a call for an interview so it doesn't seem like hiring more staff is a priority. I talked with several other people and found they also felt dismissed and unappreciated for their business. I will miss the fun flavors and the novelty of taking out of town guests there and my monthly visits before happy arte hour, but I can't support a business that disrespects customers like that. read more

We visited this little restaurant in Albuquerque today located in the New Mexico Hispanic cultural center on 4th st. We had read how it was in a ghetto area but I beg to differ as I have been in much worse areas near the downtown central area. Let's start with the service. The service was very good and friendly. It was a bean, cheese and potato burrito and the potato's were actually French fries.It was loaded with French fries and only a tiny amount of beans and cheese. It was not good. It was kind of gross. Sonora dog was great. Can't go wrong with avocado and bacon on a hot dog. We also shared an ice cream taco and I believe we got a flavor that was the last of its kind. I've lived in the South Valley for ten years now and I love having Pop Fizz down the street! This sweet shop is an absolute must. I was so excited to bring my three year old niece with me, she also gives 5 stars! After a nice lunch we arrived at Pop Fizz for a treat. We ordered the cinnamon churro vanilla soft serve topped with Fruity Pebbles ice cream, a Cookie Monster soft serve with Oreo's, and a kids scoop of chocolate ice cream with sprinkles! The soft serve is so sweet and yummy. I love the different combinations and toppings perfect for any sweet tooth craving. Their paletas are also amazing and come in so many different varieties. The good people at Pop Fizz had freebies ready for us to try. The Cookies n' Cream paleta looked good and tested even better. It has real Oreo cookies and an extra creamy texture. The paleta also held together well in the heat so it had the melt in your mouth, not in your hand thing going. Stand back M&Ms. The carne asada fries were excellent. The fries kept their crunchy quality and the other ingredients added a variety of flavors to please the tastebuds. The carne wanted to stay together so I recommend two forks to pull it and the fries apart. A knife you say? Where's the fun in that? Got a bean and cheese burrito to go because... ice cream and carne asada fries. The burrito was largely tortilla but I wasn't disappointed. A few years ago, the place set up shop on Bridge avenue in what I consider the gateway to the South Valley, near the best taco shop in town (El Paisa). It was a family-run gig: dad was a public school teacher who helped set up shop, and the kids crafted the goods, which were a kind of hybrid of sweet frozen treats inspired by Mexican tradition, with modern American influence. If you're visiting our awesome city from another place, please note that the South Valley keeps it Real: if you don't speak Spanglish, prepare to try. That said, the family that runs Pop Fizz are happy to translate. They're endlessly gregarious. What these guys have accomplished, man, it's all about perseverance. They've schlepped paletas in a little cart to virtually every major civic event and festival around town, and in the process trained local palates to anticipate a little chile with their icy cold treats. They've worked tireless hours promoting the brand and, in time, word on the street has been solid. A couple months back I took my daughter to the old storefront only to discover that it had moved to the Hispanic Cultural Center. I was really happy for the business, and my daughter was supremely pissed. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything coming out of this place. Go conservative with a strawberry or mango popsicle, or get adventurous with something more diverse. The ice cream is good. The candies are legit. The sodas are unique. Many of the flavors you'll taste are locally-sourced. And the move to the Hispanic Cultural Center is so apt, so sensible, such a terrific opportunity for the future of the brand. Then, I heard that they opened a brick-and-mortar location, and so many possibilities opened up for me. This location at the Hispanic Cultural Center is awesome. Sure, they have 15 or 20 different types of ice cream bars at any given time. And those bars are amazing - flavorful, rich and delicious. And you can have them dipped in chocolate if you want. What?! But, they also now have ice cream tacos, pastries and even boozy shakes - yep, ice cream shakes with alcohol in them. And damn, they are tasty. As if they weren't enough, the staff is awesome. They owner is usually there, and is happy to talk about his craft. He even gave us a few samples of new flavors he was working on one time to get our feedback. I regrettably have also not tried their boozy drinks although I think it is awesome they offer them. This was not my first visit but it was a my first arroz con leche paleta. This place and what they offer is top notch. The location is a bit out of the way unless you live downtown. They create such good tastes, flavors in their paletas. I have come here 3 times now bringing someone new with me. I think their best one is watermelon...but I'm bias. Choco tacos are a must, I usually bring one with me back home ha! I have seen them and their Pop Fizz-Mobile around town and now that the weather is soooo wonderful (October!) I can keep enjoying their offerings. read more
