We had Pinch a Penny renovate our pool (new plaster, add a tanning ledge) in March 2025. It's…read moredifficult to put into words how disappointing they were. My sense is that most negative reviews on Yelp are often related to frustrations with dishonest customer service. This review is entirely related to poor performance - they are just remarkably bad at what they do. Over the course of a month, there was near-daily miscommunication between the project lead and the construction team. The shape of the tanning ledge was nothing like we originally sketched out and discussed, and it took three separate attempts to get the shape remotely close to what we envisioned. After attempt #2 (the jagged edges in the pictures), the project manager started to fill the pool up and said it looked great/finished. The job site was one of the worst I have ever seen - plaster got all over our windows, outdoor furniture, and fence. There were puddles of spilled mastic all over the pool deck. Their demo and reconstruction of our spa stonework does not blend in with the existing stone at all. When they re-plastered the ledge on attempt #3, the color of the plaster didn't completely match the rest of the pool. They assured me the noticeable line would go away. 60 days later, it's still there. Those are the aspects that showed a lack of professionalism and/or sophistication. There were other aspects that simply demonstrated carelessness. They installed a new pool light that doesn't turn on. The tanning ledge, built on cinder blocks with zero rebar, is not level. In fact, they did not even own a level and acted surprised that I noticed how lopsided it was. From the very beginning, we asked that the tanning ledge be 9" depth below water line, but they made it 6" below water line and were unable to adjust. As a quick fix, they tried to install a cover on our overflow drain to artificially increase the depth... but forgot to actually seal the cover, so water gets through and the water line is the same. I think 1 star would be unfair, as they certainly made efforts to get the project to the finish line. They weren't rude or confrontational. The Pinch a Penny store manager came out on day 30 to oversee attempt #3 and got everything closer to our satisfaction (comments above notwithstanding). But make no mistake - this company is absolutely a below-average option for pool renovation. Just because a company has done something for several years does not mean they do it well. There are seemingly countless options in DFW. Take your business elsewhere.

Let's Talk. My son has been patronizing Leslies for quite a…read morewhile and when they had a sale on the pool pump he needed, he ordered it with free installation. Leslie called him and said that the pool pump was not a free installation and that was a mistake -- which is quite a lie as the pool pump itself has "free installation" listed under the part. This was later verified, although Leslie said it was a "marketing mistake" and after numerous calls to management and corporate, they finally agreed to do the installation. The installer refused, saying he didn't work for free (Leslie should be paying him in this case). After numerous additional calls to the store and manager the guy said he would come out, but the store now said there was a $40 "travel fee" for the installation. AGAIN, after numerous calls to the manager and corporate, they said the $40 was for gaskets and would have to be paid by my son. Ok - my son was willing to pay that. The installer gets there, tears it apart, and said that there was a stripped screw that would have him break the impeller to get it out and the cost now jumped to 370+ dollars. AGAIN, AGAIN, after numerous calls to the store and corporate, they got it down to parts which now totaled about $173 or so. My son didn't like this at all but agreed to pay it. Then the installer said that he needed a reverse-threaded screw that the store didn't carry. He told my son that he would have to order it and when it came back in, he would come back and install it. My son called the store and guess what? They had it in stock. My son told the installer and he said, "that it was too late and he had to come back later to do the work." The installer is a liar on top of being an arrogant SOB which tells you what my son thinks of Leslie Pool Supply right now. Now, he has to take time off on Monday/Tuesday to be there when the installer chooses to return and finish the installation. If this sounds like the kind of Pool supply company you want working for you -- you can have them. See the picture below for how the installer left my son's pool.

Had trouble scheduling an installation date or getting calls back from the store - they finally came out and installed it, but it was not done correctly. The filter container was hanging off the concrete pad, they tried to feed DE through a skimmer with a sock on it, and the pvc piping wasn't done well. It took multiple calls to the owner and 2 additional visits for someone to come out and finally fix it. This was after they insisted they came to my house and "everything looked fine", but my Ring doorbell and gate confirmed they didn't come at all and must have gone to the wrong house. Immediately after the fix, the brand new filter started leaking from the seal joint, and no one will actually commit to coming out and looking at it again. I've been scheduled "on the board" for multiple service visits - but then they no call/no show and I have to follow-up again. I understand staffing is tough, but they've used the excuse of being "down" a pool tech all summer so that the owner is having to go out on calls himself. I also had a big issue with high copper in my water - it was filmy, blue/silver in the net, etc, and they said "they had never seen anything like this" and didn't know what to do. They didn't test the water or seem to have any ideas or solutions - I figured it out myself with a test. The price on the filter was ok and I was trying to find a more locally owned alternative to Leslie Pool. However, it's been such a hassle dealing with unnecessary issues from the installation that I would not recommend purchasing equipment from them.

I was at the show room and was amazed at the quality of the Marquis hot tubes in the show room verses what I received. Southern Leisure is doing the right thing replacing it. I did not want nor buy a blemished hot tub I paid full price for it. Now its up to Marquis to build my replacement to the quality standards I have seen in other Marquis hot tubes. Colby with Southern Leisure was great he was very understanding of my frustration with the issues and in the end came up with a solution that was just and fair.

Very happy with the service provided by Colby. Originally gave one star, changing the rating based on the service Colby provided. I have had the absolute WORST SERVICE ever. I ordered a new hot tub in MARCH. My original delivery date was slated for August. Not ideal, but understandable with the supply chain issues we're experiencing. It is now November, and still no hot tub. More than that NO COMMUNICATION at all regarding when I can expect my hot tub. I have visited the store and called, only to be told the regional manager will call me - still waiting on that call. I have had better service spending a fraction of what I'm spending with this company. They are great before the sale, but after the sale is dismal. I will never recommend this company to anyone.
