Never built a pool before so we interviewed a lot of contractors. Todd and his company came out early and I liked him from the beginning, but he told me up front he was busy and couldn't get to us until he wrapped up a few projects. We continued to interview people and almost went with two others until I did my due diligence and found concerns about their past work. Needless to say, I waited for Todd's schedule and boy am I glad I did. His crew was professional, showed up when they said they would, and his foreman Noah was awesome! We had a very specific design in mind and Todd created the 3-D render. We made tweaks and he began. The entire project was steady going even despite some minor changes and add ons (as I learned about pool building/features as we progressed). I also found it very helpful to visit some of Todd's previous pool builds to see features and what not which would make our pool even better than I imagined. Overall we are very happy with all the work Todd and his company did. We did have some hiccups at the end with a Jandy pool heater which caused some heartache for a few months; but Todd put his reputation on the line with the vendor and company, and he made it right in the end. SO fast forward now a year later and after having our family enjoy the pool over our first summer, I would have to say we are super happy with our pool. I would definitely have Todd do more projects and have recommended him to friends. He is a great, honest, and fair guy. We used Todd to design and build out our backyard remodel. First off, Todd has amazing vision and can transform a small backyard area, that didn't get much use, into a beautiful kitchen and outdoor living room that can be used 365 days of the year. We had a few ideas but Todd really expanded on them and took it to another level. He did a mock up video of the area that looked so great and the finished yard looked just like what was promised. The work done by his guys and his subs was top notch. His guys are hard working, polite and clean up each day. They were very detailed and organized at each step. Measurements were checked and rechecked daily. His Masonry sub and his granite fabricator/installer did absolutely beautiful work as well. Todd showed up on the job many times throughout the build out to supervise and make changes and suggestions. The landscape work around the patio build out came out just beautiful. I was skeptical of the 'fake' grass but it came out better than promised and it's clean and always green! We interviewed several professionals, each coming highly-recommended (among online reviews or from neighbors/friends), for our landscaping project in Danville. For all the reasons outlined below, my wife and I are very happy with our choice (Todd Maltbie). We appreciated the fact that Todd took time to prepare a functional landscaping design that took into consideration our preference and limited space at our newly-built home. Unlike competitors, he was the only one who made use of software to show us a virtual tour of our landscaping plans - and this prior to having a contract in place. Before construction, we could see our vision come to life even including trees and lighting at night! The project included several features. In the back: custom spa with water fountain, custom outdoor BBQ with refrigerator, sink, trash and our selection of granite counter top, extension of our indoor living space floor under the covered balcony for a seamless indoor/outdoor living feel as we have glass-sliding panel doors, stamp-concrete finish intermixed with grass (we chose artificial) and beautifully appointed stepping stones linking the back to a custom fire pit on a side alcove. Trees (some fruit) of our choosing are throughout. In the front, Todd and his crew widened both our driveway and stairs to the main door, the latter having built-in lighting to see each step and flanked by raised walls that match our house along with a total of 6 small pillars (on top of which my wife enjoyed adding vases with additional plants). The reason for providing these details is to allow us to make the following points about Todd and his crew (Federico - foreman; Noah - foreman) in relation to the scope of work: First: these were not the only custom items. Careful attention to detail was given by Todd to each custom item and surrounding area. Thing were not thrown together as a simple and boring package but rather crafted to be unique and complementary to one-another. The list is just too long to write. Second: The craftsmanship and quality of the materials and equipment are great. Todd was attentive to my wife's needs and choice of tiles, colors, additional columns in the backyard, large selection of plants and trees, etc. Todd not only listened but also made counter-points and helped us navigate "tough" choices (yes - a good problem to have) so we could make the best choices, whether for artistic, functional, or reasons of durability. Third: Privacy. We now live in a newly-constructed area after selling our high-rise condo in San Francisco, so having adjacent neighbors is strangely new to us and our 21 and 22 years old. Todd's design took into consideration of the angles view from neighbors and strategically put trees in areas of potential view for added privacy. The point here is that Todd really took care of setting things in a way as if his own family were to live at our place and wanted some privacy. Fourth: Cost. The overall cost was in the ball park of what we would have paid for the services of other competitors at face value. But when we closely inspected our investment, we realized that we obtained more for our dollar (value) working with Todd. There were no surprise fees or issues with construction. Fifth: Time. Todd provided us with a clear estimate on when the work could begin (he handled all the paper work for the city permits) and when it was to be completed; we found 3 months to be very reasonable. There were no delays - everything was on time. Importantly, Todd regularly checked-in with us to let us know what would happen on a weekly basis (which work was scheduled and on which days and at what times so we could monitor and see the progress and there would be no surprise at home for us or the kids. (It seemed to be a surprise to one of our dogs, Charcoal, a jet-black poodle who likes to bark a storm and thinks he runs the universe - but that is a different story). Kidding aside, Todd also made regular appearances himself to check on his crew and how the work was evolving. Sixth: The Staff. To best summarize: honest, professional, prompt, friendly and CLEAN. They all kept their cool despite Charcoal's incessant "inquiries" as to why they were trespassing. These pros know the job and were always approachable to answer questions we had. They cleaned the work area daily (things were not left as a mess) and they even came twice to check on the craftmanship, fix minor details and do final clean ups (including power wash and no debris left). Seventh: Continued Service. The project was completed in early September. I regret not having taken the time to write this review earlier but consider the following advantage: I can attest that Todd continued to remain available to answer questions we had about our spa, trees maintenance, etc. So, the service was not just to get the contract done with and move-on. Where to start, Todd and his team are simply the best. In 2020 I expanded my yard by 4000 square feet. Todd came with an incredible design that transformed this raw land into an absolute oasis. We moved to our new house about 18 months prior to working with Todd and his crew. We waited this amount of time as we wanted to live with our yard for a minimum of one winter and one summer prior to starting any work. Having done this I then invited multiple companies to meet with me to discuss what was going to be quite a large project. The response from the different companies ranged from not even responding to trying to rip us off. Todd was different. He responded quickly to my e mail enquiry and then arranged a time to meet. He arrived when he said he would and then took time to understand our needs and style. He not only looked at the back yard but also looked at the house and how it was decorated to understand what we liked and disliked. He listened to us, acknowledged when he liked the idea but also politely suggested other different, frequently better, ideas. He then outlined his approach to design and build and after a few interchanges provided us with a rough idea. Once aligned he invited us to visit his offices to look at a 3D graphic computer generated view of what our design would look like. I have to say we were skeptical about this but it turned out to be a great approach and actually very like the final product. Up until this point it had cost us nothing and we had built up a trust that was maintained through the whole project. Todd then quoted us for the build and did it in a modular approach so we could include or exclude items. We did change some things and he provided us with a final quote that he stuck to throughout with the only additions being things that we asked for - another great point. The final design and permit process was managed by Todd with full transparency and always a high level of communication. The build started in late December 2018 and finally finished in October 2019. It certainly went longer than we were expecting. Two months of the delay was due to the rain in spring of 2018 and some of it was design changes and additions we requested during the build. However some of the delay was on their side and was more the expectation that was set rather than slow work. The quality of work is exceptional and we agreed that we would accept any delay and maintain the quality. The main work was done by Noe, Juan and Tino and this team is truly exceptional. They are craftsman and also great guys. When you have a team in your back yard for 10 months the relationship and trust you need is obvious and we can say with zero hesitation that they are the A team. At times we had up to 8 people working and all of them were polite and kind individuals with nothing we asked for being too much trouble. Todd is a perfectionist and took real pride in our project and the result is fantastic. His communication is rapid and full, he listened to our concerns throughout the project and explained the process and next steps. His sub contractors (roofer, concrete and pool plaster) were also top class. We have waited a couple of months to post this review to make sure that everything is as we wanted and we can now say that we are beyond happy. The outdoor is transformed and even in the winter we are using it and enjoying the hot tub and kitchen area. In addition Todd and the team are still checking in and available if we have any questions. We would strongly recommend Todd and would invite him back for future work. This summer our property in Brentwood was transformed by Todd and his company, Pool and Landscape Development. He listened to our ideas and incorporated them into a wonderful design. I wasn't sure the finished product would really look like the amazing 3D design he presented....but it does....exactly! The work included a new complete outdoor kitchen with large pergola. It has everything we wanted including a large gas BBQ /side burner, sink with water heater, refrigerator, stainless steel cabinetry and a beautiful large granite counter and raised bar area. The install and every detail from the cement pad (that matched the existing concrete perfectly), to the well built foundation and structure, to all the finishing details were done with such quality craftsmanship. He also added retaining walls capped with the same stone as existing retaining wall planters AND carried that same stone as a trim edge for all existing and newly installed patio areas. It looks like it was all designed at once, rather than an addition. It's that kind of planning and attention to detail that sets him apart. As he often says...it's all about the details! He came by daily to check the progress. His crew was great. He also installed an amazing pondless waterfall in our side yard, surrounded by lush tropical plants, next to a new larger patio. It is such a beautiful, tranquil, relaxing place to be. It was my dream...now it's my reality! We also had our front yard and entire back/side yards completely re-done. The work included all new fences, a new side access/ for RV/Auto parking (husband's dream) with large custom built gates. Our entire front yard and side street landscape was re-done with high quality artificial turf, all new plants/trees, accented by beautiful rock and bark. The new watering irrigation system (bubblers) helps us reduce water usage. I love the all the low voltage lights too. We can control the waterfall., lights, pool fountains, by remote control now which is amazing We have had so many compliments from neighbors and people just slowly driving by to admire it all. Everyone who sees it is amazed. No exaggeration! This is the first review I've ever written. We wanted someone who would do quality work...and we got it. He completed it within the estimated time. Getting a pool has always been a dream for our family. We were overwhelmed, not knowing where to start. We had a few ideas, we knew what we liked, and what we didn't like. Todd was able to conceptualize our visions and create a computerized design that was better than what we were imagining. His design included a pool with two sun shelves, an attached hot tub, a round fire pit, a pavilion complete with an outdoor kitchen, an outdoor living space, garden beds, a catwalk from the detached garage to the back porch, even RV parking! He really took time to think of everything! His design included where the sun would set and where to position the tanning area and how the wind would blow and the placement of the BBQ. He threw in the catwalk because he was concerned that I would be carrying groceries in the rain! He designed the placement of drainage, gas lines, electrical conduits, and concrete walkways. We didn't know how we were going to afford this dream, but we were sold! We signed contracts and work got started! Not only did Todd impress us with his design abilities, we knew right away that he has an in-depth knowledge with all aspects of construction. In casually talking with him in the yard, he offered his suggestions on other home projects we were working on. His ideas were welcomed! The project took about three months. Which means we had a construction crew of 4-10 guys working in our yard for three solid months! We got to know them and have the utmost respect for his crew. They were very courteous, knowledgeable, patient with us, arrived on time, and were hard working. They were easy to talk to and were willing to make small changes as we went along. Todd stopped by often to check in on the progress, and occasionally to push our kids on the swings. :) The pool has been finished now for about a year. It has become the perfect entertainment space for our large extended family. Our kids have enjoyed it almost daily! Even in the winter, they ask to go in the hot tub! I'm writing this review for what must be the best contractor/major-job experience anyone has ever had. Todd Maltbie did a major remodel in our backyard - redid the pool and built a pavilion, BBQ island, spa, and fire pit. Along with replacing all electric, plumbing, gas, and adding drainage, leveling the yard and adding fantastic design touches. We had been through a major remodel before in a previous home, which was a traumatic experience. Todd came in and knew exactly what he thought would be the best for our funky yard within minutes of seeing it. On his own, he also noticed issues with sloping, elevation and insufficient drainage that other contractors never mentioned but which in reality had been causing us issues. Todd was the only one we talked to where I didn't have to bring those concerns up on my own. Todd came up with a beautiful vision for our yard that also provided a complete solution to all of our issues. From start to finish, Todd and his crew took care of everything and made the whole job seem so easy. Todd's crew is enormously talented and we noticed how they took their time and did everything with care, treating our yard as if it were their own. They have been with him for a long time and really know their stuff. The best thing about working with Todd was that he made it seem so easy. When it was time to make decision on stone or pool color, Todd took us to his other jobs to look at different stone and design options. It was so easy to pick and choose what we liked. Todd is also bluntly honest - which saved us making wrong decisions and let us know exactly where the project stands. I appreciated his honesty the most during this job. And it almost goes without saying that there were no financial surprises in the job, unlike our prior remodel. Everything was per the contract. His design was top notch and includes important features such as pool auto-fill and overflow prevention which other pool contractors left out of proposals. I can't say enough about Todd and the job he did on our new home's pool and yards. Todd worked with us from the beginning to design from the ground up our full landscape, pool and pavilion solution. Throughout the project Todd was completely hands-on, almost daily visiting our job site to make sure everything was being done to the plans. His crews, particularly Fede and Noe, were alway professional and respectful of our home and communicated daily with me or my wife what was being done and what progress was being made. Todd is not the cheapest nor the most expensive option, but his work is top notch. From the beginning we worked from a detailed contract that laid out exactly what was included and the cost. Any changes, and there were several on our project that we initiated, were quoted and paid for via a change order process and paid through out the project via the schedule laid out in the contract. The subcontractors he uses have been partners of his for over 20 years and did outstanding work. At the end of the day Todd and his team managed this project from end to end and we couldn't be happier with our pool, pavilion and landscape. We moved into our house about 2.5 years ago knowing that the backyard was in need of serious remodeling, but we decided to wait for a year in order to get a better feel for the yard throughout the year. As much as it drove us crazy not doing the yard in the first year it turned out to be a great decision because after one full year we knew that we wanted to move the location of the in ground pool from one end of the garden, away from the shade and leaf fall into the center of the yard. Armed with this information and few other basic ideas we set about our search to find someone that could create great design based upon our ideas then execute on the plans and deliver a high quality product at a good price. After four or five months of discussions with a large number potential contractors we were at the stage where we had a couple of decent ideas at a reasonable price, but they were lacking 'spark'. Eventually I turned to Yelp and found Todd Maltbie. I spoke to him on the phone and he showed up a few days later as planned. From the outset the chemistry with Todd felt good and his interest and enthusiasm in the project seemed sincere and genuine. We explained what we wanted to do, he immediately gave some advice and ideas. Nothing we wanted to do seemed to phase him and he promised to come up with a design we'd love. A few weeks later we had our first design, wow! Not only did it contain everything we wanted, the layout and design had the 'spark' we were looking for. The 3D drawing and renderings Todd provided were incredibly helpful allowing us to tweak the design and try endless colors and textures until we landed on something we were happy with. Throughout the design phase Todd was patient and attentive, traits that we are glad to say remained until the job was complete. The projected cost that Todd provided was frankly over the budget we set ourselves, but based on the great service and interaction with him, we said yes and started the work. Todd promised that his guys doing the work we're great guys and do quality work, he wasn't wrong! Our project was a fairly large one with the demo and hardscaping to remove the old pool and dig out a new one taking three months. What became obvious pretty quickly was that the crew led by Noah and Fede were incredible craftsman. The team worked hard and were always polite and friendly. Everything that they did was done to the highest standard, even pipe work that was going to be below ground and never to be seen, was a work of art. We watched over many months as the backyard was transformed beyond imagination. No detail or request was too small. Todd was constantly available to answer questions. He took care of all of the sub contractors needed on the project, who by the way work like an extension of Todd's team in terms of quality and attitude. The end product is simply stunning, we love it and still can't believe the before to after transformation. Todd was great at keeping us informed about the costs of our change requests throughout the project. Todd and his team may not be the cheapest out there in the market, but you'll be hard pressed to find better value for money. If you are considering a landscape project Todd and his team will not let you down. The only thing we regret is that we don't see Noah, Fede and the team now the project has finished! read more

When we purchased what we hope will be our retirement home it needed three things when it came to the backyard...a pool for my wife to float in, a backyard BBQ mecca for Mike, and low maintenance. The challenge was a long narrow back yard, easement restrictions, and 6' on either side of the house. We looked around for similarly shaped backyards and found that there were plenty of good options. As we looked for contractors we also found there were choices, but what struck us most about Pool & Landscape design was that Todd's company managed the entire process - design, excavation, plumbing, electrical, concrete, pool construction, masonry, custom BBQ island, and landscaping & lighting. He was able to tale what we thought we wanted and turned it into exactly what we wanted and we couldn't be happier. His wasn't the least expensive bid nor was it the most expensive, and we even scaled back on some of his design suggestions, but I don't mind paying for quality work. I was home most every day during construction and I saw how hard his guys worked, how meticulous they were with their work, and how those efforts resulted in a beautiful backyard that we will enjoy for years to come. Todd and his amazing crew just completed a remodel of our backyard. From start to finish the project went smoothly without any issues or delays. The work included a pool and pool deck renovation, an addition of a sport court, hot tub, gas fire pit, and outdoor kitchen. We also had our driveway redone, vegetation and outdoor lighting added, as well as a new wood gate built and installed. From the very beginning of the project, we were impressed with Todd's professionalism, quick responses, honesty, transparency and his great sense of humor. He starts the process with a 3-D visual design so you can really see what the finished product will look like and the quote is very detailed with no surprises. All through the process, Todd was always present to walk us through decisions and explain what was happening. He provides the personal touch at all times. There were times when we were stuck on making a decision (tile, coping, counter top, etc. etc.) and Todd was always immediately available via phone or text to discuss and offer his advice/opinion based on years of experience. I'd like to also note that we have three dogs and two kids who obviously needed to use the yard and the crew was able to fence off part of the yard to keep them all safe from the construction area. Overall, the quality of workmanship was superior. This was by far the best "contractor" experience we have ever had. When you have an army of folks in your space for an extended period of time, the quality of the crew is extremely important. Todd treats his workers very well and always with utmost respect; they are a tight-knit team who work well together. If you want to make changes to your current landscape Todd is the guy to talk to. He helped my wife and I completely redo our back yard this spring. He and his crew did an awesome job. Todd came out to the house for the initial consultation and I could tell right away he knew what he was doing. He listened to what we wanted, and created a plan that was perfect for us. We spoke to a couple of pool contractors when we started this process in the spring but were initially drawn to Pool and Landscape Development because they were a one-stop shop for pool design, construction, and landscaping. We had some ideas for our backyard, but being our first pool, we definitely needed some guidance. Todd listened to our ideas, provided recommendations, and was patient with us as we contemplated what our backyard would ultimately look like. The 3D designs that Todd produced (for free by the way - others we spoke to charged as much as $1,000 for 3D renderings) were extremely helpful as we made changes and looked at our options.
