Stopped by while in the area. Was hoping to find the beers I sampled earlier (Grand Theft Otter and IPAlien). Both were spectacular. However, these are seasonal and were not on tap at the time. I tried 2 NEIPAs (Skylines & Lofi and Dank Odyssey). Both were tasty, but I'm a sucker for "dank" beers. Dank Odyssey was very juicy and tasty without much of a bitter hop bite. Dog-friendly. Kid-friendly. Spacious. Not too loud, nice music in the background. Volume was just right. Not nearly as busy as they deserve to be, but that was fine. Met 3 of my kids here for my birthday and we ate, drank, and brought in a cake and Settlers of Catan. This spot was great for all of these pursuits. Pontoon might just be my favorite brewery in the Atlanta area. While there are plenty of great breweries with incredible beers there is something about the vibe at Pontoon that just draws me in. And yes, the beers are damn good. The moment you walk in the door it feels like you are stepping out onto the boat for a lake day. The atmosphere is super chill and inviting and the staff are always super cool. If you are an IPA fan then Pontoon has your number. I'm a huge fan of the cold IPA especially. Pontoon Brewing is a great spot that I look forward to visiting anytime I'm in the Atlanta area. It's a local brewery with a great variety of beer and friendly staff. They do not have food but while I was there they had a pop-up food vendor, I think it was pizza. So, if you're looking for food they may have it depending on the night. We support Local GA Beer. We have been huge fans of Pontoon Brewing ever since they opened. They are conveniently located off of GA 400 closest to Exit 6. You could usually find me outside on a Saturday just before 12. There is lots of outdoor seating with shade thanks to great giant blue umbrellas that are over a few tables. Dogs are welcome inside and out with leash. They have a food truck schedule on the weekends as well. You may bring in food from outside. The beer menu rotates and certain styles don't last long so you must visit often. They do incredible Sooper Froot style beers. Get a flight or two so you can try them all. I love the peanut butter Berliner's that they consistently put out. Right now they have PB Jammin on. You should get in there. Inside has plenty of seating and a large screen tv for people interested in sports. The staff is amazing. Very friendly and always there to ensure you have the best time. I am not a beer drinker. I am a whiskey drinker. I still visit Pontoon Brewing. Its a great location at 400 and Roswell Rd. There is always a changing menu with new and different items. And always something for me, a non-beer drinker, to choose from and enjoy. Its super dog & kid friendly. Families, friends and food trucks. Lots of events to attend - I've done Marvel trivia, new years eve, video game contests.. and they have regular trivia nights and brunches. The beers are good and theres always a selection for me, that I actually like. Theres a little bit of everything, something for everyone. We went at 8:30 pm on a Friday with 4 people. It was packed and difficult to find a table at first. We got the Honorary Girls Scout S'mores Cookie (porter), Flamingo Banana (hefeweizen), New Wave (blonde ale), and Crushing Waves (sour). We enjoyed all of them! I tried to get the Fight Milk (stout), but they were out. The night we were there, they partnered with Truck'n Chefs for food. We didn't get food, but it was nice to have the option! They've have cute cafe lighting and Atlanta and college decor. They have shirts and other brewery items for sale. They have low tables, high-top tables, couches, and a big screen with a projector. They are so dog-friendly!! There were so many dogs, it was wonderful. Only complaint is how early they close. Even on Fridays and Saturdays, they close at 10. Last call was about 9:45, and they kicked us out at about 10:45. I wish they stayed open later! This is a fun brewery. We'll be back. We definitely recommend! read more

My first visit to Pontoon was with some friends for the brewery's second anniversary. It was such a great experience. The brewery is pretty spacious and clean. All the employees were super friendly and helpful finding the right beer for me. The weather wasn't the best when we were there and since it was their anniversary the inside was super packed. I would love to go back on a nice day to see what it is like. They have plenty of options so you definitely can find the right beer for you. after trying basically almost every beer they have, my favorite was "The Knights Who Say Neipa". It is a yummy fruity hoppy IPA at 8%. It was super smooth and easy to drink. Since they are done the street from our favorite kayaking and tubing spots I am for sure going to swing by often this summer before and after hitting the river. read more

I've seen Pontoon Brewing at a few beer and food festivals and have been itching to check out the brick and mortar brewery. Pontoon is located in a random area, in my opinion but most breweries seem to be. The bar was spacious, but filled with disc golf? We walked in to flying frisbees, which were also "netted" off for our safety. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were nice, although very busy with the regulars. I tried a couple IPAs, like the NE IPA Missed the Boat and the Hazy River, which was very easy drinking. I actually really liked the Boats n' Gose, since I don't usually like sour beers, so the sweetness balanced that out. It was the end of the night and closing time, so the bartender gave me my last beer on the house, which was pretty awesome! Overall, I would love to come back again and try some more beers. It's great to see breweries like Pontoon opening up slightly closer to my place, versus the majority of them being ITP. read more

You can find Pontoon Brewery at 8601 Dunwoody Pl, Ste 500, Sandy Springs, GA 30350- this is a series of buildings as part of a business park right across the street from Quicktrip - Pontoon is in the building to the far left (Building 500) and they have the space on the left corner. There's plenty of parking out front and to the sides. I was invited by a few friends to attend Pontoon Brewery's "soft open" and I'm very glad I did. I was a bit skeptical of Pontoon as I hadn't heard anything about them - a search online quickly found their website and frankly the beers noted there showed very little that I would be interested in - at least as part of their current production. I was happily wrong in my thinking as what they offered on tap exceeded my expectations. When you walk into Pontoon you're basically in a converted warehouse/office space with high and exposed ceilings. The bar is to your left and there are tables scattered about. To the far right are the restrooms and a secondary bar (looks like something they travel with) - while we were there some people got out a cornhole game and started playing in that area (yes the ceilings are that tall). I arrived a bit early with my friend Arvin and ordered up a - Black Squall Russian Imperial Stout (Smoky, Dark Roast Coffee, Bittersweet, 9% ABV) - I ordered a 12 oz glass at the very reasonable price of $6.50. At Pontoon you can get classes from a 2 oz sample size all the way up to 16 oz with scaling prices. You can also order a flight of four $9 which is a great deal. The Russian Stout was appropriately opaque and delicious with great chocolate/coffee foam and "legs" - it was like drinking an awesome espresso and a great started. The rest of our group arrived so we moved to a table - I also ordered a flight with the following: * Galaxy Drifter American IPA (Juicy, Hoppy, Tropical, 6.3% ABV) * Midnight Silver Pecan Pie Nut Brown Ale (Nutty, Roasty, Malty, 5.8% ABV) * Freedom Bird American Strong Ale (Cocoa, Grassy, Malty, 8% ABV) * BBA Freedom Bird American Strong Ale (Toasted Oak, Caramel, Cocoa, 8.8% ABV) Of the four my favoite was the Midnight Silver Pecan Pie Nut Brown Ale. Then best to least: BBA Freedom Bird, regular Freedom Bird and finally the IPA. That last was jarring after starting with the Freedom Bird (regular) and the Brown Ale. I think the drinking order is important here and I should have started with the IPA - the bitterness was off-putting after the mellow tones of the rest - it also had an aftertaste that took a while to dispel. Note that under normal circumstances I think it would have been borderline for me but in the flight I didn't care for it at all. Of the Freedom Birds, the Bourbon Barrel Aged version was much better than the regular with awesome mellow tones - the regular reminded be of Victory's Golden Monkey (not a bad thing) but the BBA was just better. After the flight I had a pint of the Brown Ale and was very happy. We headed to Aladdin for some shwarma next and it was an awesome way to top off the evening. In general the location is awesome (very similar in feel to Orpheus crossed with Jekyll) and the guy pouring was both knowledgeable and attentive, coming around several times to see if we were ready for more. I didn't plan to stop at Pontoon, but I'd heard of it and have had some of their beer in the past, so when I spotted the brewery one afternoon driving around Sandy Springs on an Atlanta vacation, I had to make a little bit of time to stop in. First of all, like many a Southern brewery, it's located off to the side of a strip mall, which means an expansive, comfortable inside space with plenty of easy parking. I like a brewery in a hip, happening neighborhood as much as the next guy, but I gotta say, I also love it when a brewery makes it really easy and convenient to stop on in for a couple. Service was friendly and efficient - order at bar, take to a table. As for the beer, Pontoon is a fairly on-trend brewery for this point in time on the American craft beer continuum. That means that the tap list, not to mention the cans-to-go cooler, features a lot of 1) hazy IPAs, 2) fruited smoothie-style Berliners/sour beers, and 3) barrel aged pastry stouts. One cannot accuse Pontoon of ignoring the zeitgeist. There are other beers, so if these styles don't set your own pontoons afloat, don't worry too much - but the majority of the tap list is going to fall in these categories. I had a couple small pours of different hazy IPAs and they were perfectly good. Tried the PB&J Sooper Froot and a couple other fruited sours, and while tasty, it was hard to convince myself I was drinking actual beer and not a drink from Jamba Juice. That is the style, so there's that. Decadent Mousse, an imperial milk stout with cacao nibs and orange peel, was probably my winner of the day - it was an excellent beery estimation of a orange chocolate truffle. If I lived in the area, I could see this being a comfortable hangout. For travelers, it's about a 20-30 minute drive from the Atlanta city center, in ordinary traffic, so that's not too bad. Loved it! We always take a flight of beers when we first come to a new brewery and most of the time there is one or two of the beers we like. We had two flights, and out of the 8 beers, we loved 7. Amazing. Such adventurous beers too! Loved the Key Wester one best. But every beer was such a unique flavor, I loved it. They also had pies from Heaps, which were delicious. Everyone I have interacted with has been really friendly and available to make (great!) recommendations if you're unsure about what you might like best.
