    Sweet potato and coconut

It's not often you find the perfect dessert...but a Pono Pie is certainly a contender. Made of all local Hawaiian ingredients and without added sugar (just a touch of honey), these not-too-sweet, mostly-made-of-breadfruit desserts are the light sweet treat that leave you feeling happy and energized, without a sugar crash. They're free of dairy, gluten, and added refined sugar. I ordered mine through a farm share box (FarmLink, so great) for $7 each for the personal sized pies, but I hear you can get them at Whole Foods too. I had the sweet potato / coconut flavor and the coffee / chocolate, two perfect combos. Hard to choose which one was better as they were both just excellent. They were reminded me of a mousse crossed with a Japanese cheesecake...light, slightly sweet, earthy, creamy, cool, and delicious. The textural contrast of the filling with the mac/almond/coconut crust was so nice, too. Will definitely be a lifelong customer and order them as treats for out of town visitors! They are worth every penny and you are supporting a local small business.

We were looking for bread fruit pie and stumbled upon their kitchen instead! They were incredibly kind and let us buy from them there. They even gave us a little tour of their facility and told us a bit more about the breadfruit too. The pies we got were so good I wish we got more! This was our last stop before flying back home and I'm glad we made the time to. Mahalo!

Saw the reviews on Yelp and stopped by their commercial warehouse to pick up some fresh pies. It is a must try for everyone. I love that it is dairy free. Ingredients are simple with fruit and they simply melt in your mouth. It's is so delicious as you feel the fruity flavors literally melt in your mouth and the macadamia crust's nutty texture mixed with the fruity filling. Reminds me Lindt's chocolate truffle.

I've been looking for a great dessert here on Maui. So many fall short - too sweet, too big, greasy, not unique to the island. I was in the neighborhood buying fish and saw Pono Pies listed around the corner. While it is a bit industrial looking in the area - this IS where they make these pies - in a small space tucked away - they DO sell pies to the public so ring the bell and go in! $5 each for a personal size, cash only, and they are divine! We tried 3 types and they are amazing. 70% local ingredients and served in compostable containers - it's a win-win. A must if you are craving a sweet with aloha spirit of this island!!

My husband and I are all about trying unique local foods. Pono Pies satisfied that unique dessert craving, and was an unexpected amazing experience! To preface - we drove up, and literally had no clue where this place was. We knocked on the back of an industrial door, and was greeted by the most kind woman. She brought out four Pono Pie flavors. They all sounded amazing. Since we couldn't decide, we purchased 3 - chocolate, banana coconut, and sweet potato and haupia. And wow- they were all just amazing. Highly recommend picking up some Pono Pies if you're looking for a unique, tasty treat!

With a name like "Pono Pies" you'd expect it to be good, right? Pono means : "goodness, morality, doing what is right" so add that to a dessert and it just makes sense that it would be awesomesauce. Well, IT IS. These pies are so stinking delicious--AND--healthy. Holla. Desserts that I can eat and not feel guilty about? *Gluten free. *Dairy free. *GMO free. Sign. Me. Up. I've had a few different flavors, but Maui coffee and chocolate takes the cake--err--pie. Who woulda thought breadfruit could taste so delicious? I can't wait to taste the Molokai sweet potato and haupia... I bet it's awesome! John the owner and master creator is so incredibly kind as well. They are a little pricy--but that being said, they are so unbelievably tasty that you won't even care. If you're looking for something sweet to satisfy, but not crazy about adding all the calories, this treat is for you. I've seen them for sale at Down to Earth as well.

Aloha fellow BES' Kine Goodies Seekers!…read more I LOVE MANUELA MALASADAS so.stop by every time I go to Costco! They are right across the street so I may drive to the lot right next to the truck or just run across the street ! It's a cute, very clean food truck right off the hotel driveway & parking lot with parking stalls right near it in case you buy a bunch to take home. Or have a car full of luggage from your flight to Maui since it's just down the way from OGG airport. Malasadas put donuts to shame!!! ESPECIALLY if you like gooey fillings & toppings. My favorite ones are around Christmas but they have tons of regular fillings. I can never get less than three because I can't pass up my chance to try new ones. They have wonderful staff... especially the manager Sabrina...really know their way around dough and they do not scrimp on the Malasadas itself or the fillings! They ONLY cook just for you... so plan a few minutes wait but they have picnic tables under a tarp right there or you can walk around the other food trucks. But definitely at least take your first bites there while they're hot out of the frier!!! 'Only ONE piece of advice: ... G O. H U N G R Y !!!! ...

We had the Nutella and the Lilikoi, and they are absolute units--massive, beautiful and perfectly executed. The pastry is light and incredibly fluffy, but stays dense and decadent because they don't skimp on the filling (it's actually in the center, not just a garnish on top!). The Lilikoi was a total standout--bright, fresh, and perfectly tart. I found myself breaking off the flaky layers just to dip them into that golden center. If they sold it in jars, I'd be the first in line. If you're looking for the best bakery on the island, this is it! XOXO, ChelsieFletcher

I thought the shape of this croissant was funny and I did want to try something guava. I did find it to be dry and quite bready? I've never had the cube croissant before so perhaps this is just the style of them. I liked the guava filling but thought the cube croissant part was okay. It did seem like this one had more dough than filling. - Lilikoi Croissant (between $6 and $7) - I found that this croissant was not really flaky. There was a really good filling to croissant ratio in this one. However, I did appreciate the strength of the lilikoi flavor in this croissant, and the filling did taste fresh. - Macadamia Nut Latte ($6.85)- we both got ours iced, 12 ounce and with regular milk. We honestly enjoyed these lattes more than the croissants. The macadamia flavor came through quite strong (in a good way) and was pretty unique. There is a small parking lot and lots of seating inside. We saw a couple chickens wandering around outside when we grabbed our pastries.

You don't want to be disappointed and to show up only to find out they're all gone. Reserve, pick up, and enjoy! We got the dark chocolate truffle, red bean paste and peanut butter milk chocolate mochis. They were all delicious. The mochi skin was so smooth, so soft, and nicely chewy - just how a perfect mochi should be. And then fillings were complementary to the mochi skin - not too sweet, just right (so you know, when I drink milk tea, I usually go for 25% or if any milk tea with syrup, then 0%). Dark chocolate truffle had a very nice smooth dark chocolate truffle taste, and if you like dark chocolate, you'll love this. Peanut butter milk chocolate had a very nice texture with the chunky peanut chunks. It was deliciously chewy, crunchy and savory! And the traditional red bean paste, it was yummy. Only regret is that I didn't buy another set of all flavors to bring home to store in the freezer to have for the weeks to come. If you have had mochi from Twin Sisters in Hilo, this place comes neck to neck to theirs except that Maui Specialty Chocolates don't have any fresh fruit mochi which is all made up by how delicious the mochis are on Maui.
