The Cranberry Over Superior - Maple Sriracha Chicken Sandwich with Fries

The Cranberry Over Superior

Someone had mentioned this place as having a dog friendly patio, so we stopped here for lunch after…read morea hike at Lost Creek Falls. The outdoor patio has a (distant) view of Lake Superior. While the patio is dog-friendly, you have to go inside to the bar to order your drinks and food and dogs aren't allowed in there. So, if you're traveling solo with your dog, be aware of this. I just left the car locked and running while I went in to order, put my placard down on a table outside, then went and grabbed the pup from the car. The Caesar Salad with chicken was lovely and had nice, crisp greens - not just the light colored watery lettuce, this had the medium and dark green goodness too. Still a little bland tasting, but it is a nice size and I ate the whole thing. The chicken on top of it was warm and freshly cooked, and absolutely delicious. I shared a piece of chicken and some lettuce with my pup and he likewise approved. It was a warm sunny day, so I ordered a Kentucky Mule to go along with my salad. Staff was a little busy with tables inside (lots of children at one table) so they forgot about my drink sitting on the bar. It came out just after my salad, so I just decided to make it my dessert instead of my appetizer :) Friendly staff and good food. If you're out this way, why not stop in and enjoy for yourself?

Staff were professional and you could tell were old hands and knew what was what. I ordered the hot mess (their version of poutine but without cheese curds and with shredded roast beef) which was amazing, SO good. I had a special - sliders on pretzel buns, and while the beans and coleslaw were delicious, the sliders were just okay. Others in the group loved the pot pie, and my kiddo devoured the burger. The quality of the food and the service place the Cranberry Over Superior above other seemingly similar options in the area. Highly recommend.

Where to start? We walked in to what seemed to be a very empty restaurant. We were told on a Monday…read morenight that It'll be a 20 minute wait. 45 minutes later, they tell us it's going to be another 5 minutes & about 15 minutes later, we were finally seated. We were not in a rush, but the service was so slow. It really makes me wonder how they do when the place is actually busy! Well, we all wanted different fish and or seafood and we were told that they were very busy from the fish fry from Friday that they had no fish at all. Meaning any meal that contained seafood, they didn't have. (we asked a lot of questions and it seemed any seafood was out) That's about 80% of the menu. Our server gave off a vibe that she didn't care whether or not we were there and I'm guessing that this is probably her first job? We all ordered soup and after sitting at our table for a good 15-20 minutes, I had to approach her at the bar and asked to see if we can get the soup prior to our meal being served. Her reaction gave me the impression she totally forgot we also ordered soup. After we were given our food, we were maybe halfway done eating when she started to bring all of our dessert to the table. So we are finishing up our meal while our dessert was sitting right next to us. (we ordered the dessert because they were out of everything else and we were afraid that if we didn't order it with our meal, we would have nothing). Won't be back.

They bring the food out to you in styrofoam containers and plastic silverware (which they forgot) . Sound's simple enough right, well it's not. We made multiple trips back inside to get silverware, napkins and to check why it was taking so long. Food finally delivered and was wrong, another trip inside. Once everything was corrected we were finally able to eat and it was not good. We had fettuccine Alfredo. Looked and tasted like it was sitting for a while. Moral of the story, Do Not Sit on the Patio. Beautiful view but a frustrating experience.

The service and food is consistently great. Its location is cool - in the middle of the woods. It's comfortable and pretty inside. You're not squished together. The dining room is large and they have a party room they can open up. There's also a large bar on the other end of the building and a patio area. They usually have several specials on the chalk board. I usually get the 1/2 rack of ribs. They are FANTASTIC. Super tender and the sauce is great. I've also had their chicken wings - great! On our most recent trip (the last week and a half) - I had the ribeye special with the loaded baked potato and coleslaw. It was cooked perfectly and super tasty. I left a few toppings off my loaded potato - l had butter, bacon and grilled onions. It was fluffy and delish. They have a nice menu. You can ride your ATV or snow mobile right up to the building or your John Deere tractor (like a customer had when we were visiting ). Tons of Forest service roads/trails all around the area. The bathrooms are clean and accessible. Great food, great owner, great staff - hard working people wanting their customers to have a great experience.

We entered the dining side (there's a bar side and dining room side) which is set up like a basic food hall (so, not a lot of ambiance). We were seated right away and drink ordered taken. We began the evening with whiskey old fashioned cocktails, which were made in the Wisconsin tradition and were good. They have different featured entrees every night they're open in addition to nightly specials. I opted for one of their nightly specials, which was coconut shrimp. The shrimp was ample with several large shrimp lightly coconut breaded and fried. They were delightful. For my side, I got the loaded baked potato (minus bacon) which was cheesy deliciousness. The service was prompt and friendly, though she did get a little bogged down when it came time to pay so we had to go find her (we were on a bit of a schedule with somewhere to be), If you're looking for ample portions at reasonable prices--this is your spot!
