I paid $11.00 for lunch. The cheap plastic silverware was cumbersome to use. There was a bone in my burrito. The booths are uncomfortable. For $11 my experience should of been better. Will probably go to some place else when I am in the area. read more

Came here for a late lunch because of the high yelp reviews. This is your typical hole in the wall Mexican food place. Has a large menu with plenty to choose from at a reasonable price. I gave this place a 4 but like a lot of other yelpers out there I wish there was a way I could give this place a 3.5. I order the asada burrito and it was really good. The burrito didn't have a lot of fillers just a lot of flavorful asada (just the way I like it)! It was a good size for the price, but honestly I was expecting the burrito to be a lot bigger just because of the reviews and pictures that were posted on Yelp. I realize those reviews and pics were for the breakfast burritos, but I just assumed that all the burritos would be that big. I think if it weren't for those big expectations I would've enjoyed my experience a bit more. read more

Poncho's Restaurant - Mexican Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

Very solid bean burro. We got take out and everything was quick and painless. Which is really nice when you're just craving a bean burro.

Some of the best Mexican food in town. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I am partial to their burritos (especially carne asada or adobada). Breakfast I usually do Ponchos Burrito which is sausage, bacon, ham, chorizo, egg and cheese. It will kill any hangover Tucson can throw at you! I also love the roasted salsa at the salsa bar. Their employees are great, never rude and genuinely seem like good people. Support local places like Ponchos-- Los Betos/Nicos/Filibertos have enough locations as it is!! read more

Poncho's is a great place for good Mexican food at an affordable price. Their shredded beef tacos are great and their breakfast burritos are large and tasty and only $1.99 Mon-Thurs. They have a large menu with many options. Enchiladas, tortas, tacos, burritos, chimichangas, guacamole, etc etc. read more

I'm so glad this location has been inhabited by Poncho's. It's close to home and the previous several Mexican restaurants in that location varied wildly in quality. Poncho's is ultra-casual, great for takeout (since they have very few tables, plus one or two outside). Your order will be ready as quickly as it can be made from scratch. They have a great salsa/condiment bar with duros to snack on while you wait. A couple of times when I ordered green enchiladas, they cautioned me about the heat. They were very spicy, but absolutely wonderful. Years have passed. I'm still in love with Poncho's. Their food continues to be great, and their tortillas give them a big edge over Paco's, which is its locationally closest competitor if you are a fan of plain cheese quesadillas. Not that Paco's are bad, but Poncho's has better tortillas for quesadillas- fresher and more down home Sonoran flour tortillas read more

I work near by and I love the chile rellenos. I love the selections of foods. Food wise I think they are great. However some of the plates combo I think are a bit expensive and refrain from getting them although I know they are delicious. Their price for the combo plates shouldnt be as expensive since it's more like a fast food location vs a restaurant. I do like to support local business so I would def recommend this place. The burritos and tacos and all other items are decently price. I will keep coming here. read more

I tried the taco salad. Their prices are getting pretty steep for what you get even if it fills you up. The shell was crispy/tasty and I asked for no rice as a filler and ground beef. I liked the flavor but it was so soupy I was afraid the shell would be soggy fast. It contains sour cream and guac but they don't carry "salsa". I like Del Taco better but these guys are closer to home. I may eat this again but have to be in the mood for it:/ read more

Another excellent taqueria hiding in the heart of Tucson! Cabeza, asada, and al pastor all fantastic. Go there. It's delish.

Love Poncho's! Breakfast burritos are huge and the best in town, in my opinion. Their prices are excellent...they don't try to gauge people. The staff is extremely friendly and they are quick at getting their orders out. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for great and authentic Mexican food. read more

The food here is bomb af! But the customer service is kind of bad. I called and placed an order to go and she didn't provide a total so I asked her and she told me around 15 something. We get there and my fiance goes in to pick up the food and he asks me if 17 and some change was right and I told him no. I went inside and asked why it cost more and she shrugged at me so I look in the bad and the extra rice and beans I ordered on the side she shoved into the burrito then proceeded to keep telling me the rice and beans were in the burrito when I asked where the extra side was she charged me for $1. Finally the guy in the back grabbed a container and served us the rice and beans. read more

Regardless of how the food tastes, image is everything and the first impression is a lasting impression. This is the 21st Century. Many people look at the restaurant web site to decide if they want to eat there. When the first thing you see is a disaster of a sentence, you don't even want to try and go anywhere else on the site. read more

We absolutely love Poncho's. We come here all the time for lunch on Sundays and we are never disappointed. The owner is very nice and so are his family members who work there. Their burritos are great, as well as the super alambre, carne asada fries, and super nachos. The horchata is amazing too! We love coming here. read more

Yummmmmmy!! I've been to Poncho's before, but never got a bean chimi, which I'm still craving these days. I know; it's perplexing to me too. It was great! Great beans with lots of cheese inside (included in the price! Yay!) in deep fried burro includes enchilada sauce, sour cream and guac. Some chimis around town are served with enchilada sauce and some not, so if you don't want enchilada sauce, let them know. I loved it! Guacamole is bland and really needs some chili to it. Breakfast burritos aren't $1.99 anymore tho....sorry! They have a small salsa bar but I don't like those little round things....they taste gross to me and I sure wish they would have chips instead. Oh well, I still love Poncho's!! read more

I've lived in Tucson my entire life. I've eaten at every hole in the wall and every bougie place this great town has to offer. I had the great luck of happening upon this unassuming little joint a year and a half ago while desperately searching for a burrito to soothe my hungover state. I stumbled in, expecting to indulge in the typical burrito dive fare such establishments offer. But then I took my first bite. Awe and wonder friends. The hand of God himself reached out of my bacon breakfast burrito (add pico and extra cheese) and touched my very soul. Every bite of my massive burrito was pure nirvana. When the experience finally came to it's glorious and tear inducing end, I realized I was changed forever. Walking out of Ponchos and re-entering the world the changes became apparent immediately. Colors seemed brighter. The hum of traffic on Speedway seemed almost cheerful. I walked past a small child and smiled, knowing the world still holds beauty, peace, and kindness for his generation. For the next 6 days the almost meth-like high lingered, until by day 7, it had waned and I was in need of another touch of that transcendent glory. This, my friends, is why I must return every Saturday morning, like a parishioner to the altar, to feed my spirit and my belly with the goodness that can only be found at Ponchos. Come I say, and join me in this holiest of communions. Come, to PONCHOS! read more

Came here for lunch today since DH was craving Mexican. I ordered the adobada torta, rice (for me) and cheese quesadilla & a red chile burrito (for DH). The torta was tasty and not covered in cilantro like at some other places. I don't like cilantro (yeah, get the torches...!) so that was really nice. My husband liked the quesadilla and said the burrito was yummy but was thrown for a loop by the addition of refried beans to it. The rice was perfect Mexican taco stand rice...dry, fluffy and flavorful. It could have probably used a squeeze of lime, but without it I still have no complaints. Price was good, albeit comparable to Nico's or Los Betos. It's not too far from my house, so I'll probably stop by again every now & then. read more

This place is amazing!!! Way better than Viva, Los Betos, Nico's and Filabertos. I've gone to a lot of Mexican place's in my time, but boy, mmmm. Very good. I highly recommend it. The burritos are huge and about $2 less than Filabertos. We will definitely come again. 4 stars due to the service. They are not the friendliest people. read more

Every time I've purchased food here it was good. Really love the chicken burritos and the carne asada! Reasonably priced with good service but they need to get some paper menus for when I want to plan my order. read more

Best breakfast burrito in town. Try #1 Poncho's burrito's. M-Th $2.99. breakfast burrito special. So good!!!

My brother and I were probably Poncho's first ever customers. We saw the restaurant when it was being first established and met the owner. We quickly became good friends with the owner and have been eating here ever since. The owner is extremely nice! After all these years of coming here, I have to say that Poncho's hasn't changed one bit. Their food has stayed consistently delicious. My favorites would have to be the nachos with carne asada, California burrito with carne asada, and the horchata. The food here is cheap and delicious. I definitely recommend this place! read more

I had the veggie burrito. The size was good as was the price. They don't take checks or credit cards so have cash on hand. We walked in and lights were out. Woman behind the counter filled our order but wasn't very friendly. My burrito wrapped in paper on a tray. No plate but ok. What I had was good but don't know how often I will go back. When we were almost finished the lights came on and music came on. Kind of strange. I'm sure if you placed a to go order this place would be fine. Quality of the food was good so give take out a try. read more

SO good! Found this place on Yelp while leaving Tucson to go back to Phoenix and we couldn't be happier. $3.99 breakfast burritos which happen to be HUGE! strongly recommend!! read more

I ran in and got the chorizo breakfast burrito. It was very tasty. The service was a bit slow for being one of the only persons in there. However the burrito was fresh and it was good. I would recommend to a friend. The green salsa is ok but it tastes like there is a lot of celery. The red salsa is probably the better of them all and it is not too spicy but definitely a good amount of kick. read more

Excellent bacon breakfast burrito. I tried 2 of the salsas and they were both very good. No coffee available today, which is strange for a breakfast spot. read more

Great food. Best place we have found in Tucson for Mexican food. I wish they had more locations is why I gave a 4 star but the food is 5 star soo good. And the staff are polite. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE SERVED ME RAW CHICKEN. I would not recommend ponchos Mexican food. I went back and they offered me ground beef tacos instead of chicken tacos. They were alright read more

Best breakfast burrito inTucson. There is actually bacon in the burrito and it's not a small burro either. My girlfriend wanted some extra hot salsa and the guy was willing to make us a cup. Highly recommend only downside is the traffic at the intersection is not the best. Love this place!! read more

Have had Tacos here twice now and they were very tasty both times. Righteous carnitas!

The best burritos in Tucson! Nico's has nothing on these people. Big, cheap, the same two guys that are always there are friendly and ever courteous. Ask for the Poncho. 4.50 for it, and it has eeeeverything you could want on a breakfast burrito. Go Mon-Thurs, and you can get them for two bucks each! read more

I had lunch today at Poncho's. It is a small restaurant with seating for about 20. Ordering is done at the counter from a huge menu above the counter. I opted for the Carne Asada Burrito, Shredded Beef Taco and Green Chile Taco. The salsa bar had numerous choices along with quartered limes and vinegar carrots with jalapenos. There were about six salsa (brownish, red, green, avocado-ish, pico de gallo, etc). I ordered no drink. I started with the beef taco in a hard shell. It was ok, but didn't stand out. I tried the various salsas with it with mixed success. I next ate the green chile (pork) taco in two soft tortillas. It had excellent flavor and was my overall favorite. The salsas went with it pretty well. I ended with the carne asada burrito. It was good, but they appeared to include guacamole which I don't like (although the avocado-ish salsa was tasty). The jalapeno carrots were very good. Overall I give it three stars at this point. I hope to return and try more on the menu. They had breakfast items, combination plates with rice and beans, and many other specialties. read more

This is a great little Mexican food restaurant and a Tucson gem. I have ate Mexican food all over Tucson and never found salsa as good as they make. read more

I am here WAYY too often. I live in mid-town, yet constantly find myself driving out of my way to go to Ponchos for their 1.99 Breakfast burritos (M-T). I'm a fan of the bean breakfast burrito. All the breakfast burritos have potatoes standard (unlike some places in Tucson where you have to pay an extra .50 or something for potatoes). I've also had breakfast platters there (the Huevos a la Mexicana are my faves). In terms of non-breakfast food, I love the California burrito. The shorter guy who is always there is the owner, and he is really nice (remembered me after my second or third time there). Poncho's is a great, no frills, Mexican place. Definitely a place to stop in! read more

Was there there about three years ago for the first time. I'm from New Mexico and was visiting my daughter. She didn't want to go anywhere to eat. And wanted Mexican food, so I went to look for some. Not knowing where to go and found this little place tucked back in a little strip mall. Got two enchiladas combo plates. They were really good and lot of food for the price. Went there a few times after that, my daughter was a regular there until she moved. Good food an service an price. read more

My friends discovered this about a year ago. They introduced it to me one night. This place has, hands down, the best burritos in Tucson. Add in the homemade salsa bar and you can hardly get us out of here. read more

The chile relleno burrito is unique and very tasty- and yes it comes with pico de gallo, sour cream, & lettuce. Inexpensive good food is hard to find but Poncho's is looking good as a contender for Mexican fare so far, hopefully they'll continue to improve with subsequent visits. That's when you know you have a winner! read more

Tucson is full of places like these, and they're always hit and miss. But Ponchos is always a hit (an affordable at that!) for the whole family. It's become our Friday night takeout tradition. read more

This place has changed hands and management a few times over the years. I still go regularly because it's near my house, but the prices are higher and the hours more limited these days. I probably wouldn't bother if I had to travel further. Still prefer them to the fast food chains across the street, but not quite so remarkable as a couple of years ago. read more

The food was actually pretty good, quickly prepared and tasteful. Now if they can just get OPEN on time!!

excellent inexpensive variety of mexican food.
