It was 1:30. I had run several errands and had an appointment at 2:15, so needed to find a fast lunch. At Swan and Speedway is a Panda Express and that sounded fast and good. I walked in and a smattering of diners were eating. An L-shaped counter held the dozens of choices so a customer could peruse and choose. Since the hub wasn't going to be home for dinner, I decided on a plate of two entrees and a side, for around eleven dollars, providing plenty of leftovers for tonight. I chose Beijing beef, black pepper chicken and split my side half and half with lo mein and vegetables. The box of food looked yummy and I was hungry. The beef dish flavor was fine, but the meat itself was so tough it was like beef jerky. The chicken was good, but there were only three small bites of chicken with veggies. The lo mein was dry and flavorless, with no seasoning. I ate part of this disappointment, closed the box, and prepared to go to my 2:15. I thought about how I could doctor this for an improvement, but then I walked past the trash container near the door and chucked it all. I could forage in my kitchen for a better dinner than this. I am not a frequent flyer of chain restaurants and have no idea if my meal would have been better at a different location. I am not likely to find out. Super friendly and welcoming service is their strongest asset. This place can get going at a feverous pace during the lunch rush. A lunch rush that I have happened upon on a few occasions recently. I have now eaten here 3 times in the last month, and when I pulled in on the first visit I found a stall directly in front of the front of the place. Looking through the plate glass windows, I saw a number of customers who were lined up and waiting to have their orders taken and thought, "Ahhhgh, that's a huge line." Despite this huge line (a sign that the place is pretty popular) I decided to show patience and "give it a go" (I've been to Panda Experss' a ton of times before, and know it offers decent food--the concern I had was for how long it would take.) My mouth was already a'watering for some Chinese food, so on in I went. My patience was not tested at all as I was served surprisingly quickly. Within a minute (it actually really was about four minutes) I was seated and chowing down on a satisfactory plate of tender flavorful chicken resting on a bed of chow mein. The portions here are abundant (at least for me they are, as I got the 2 entree plate for just over $13 and realized that it was a bit too much--so put the beef portion of the plate in a to-go cup. I would be shared it a few minutes later with an unhoused guy at a gas station down the road--who was thrilled and gave me a huge smile of appreciation and a thumbs up as he feasted and I drove away) Anyways. despite the large number of people waiting, the staff can efficiently serve the huddling masses. On all 3 recent visits in the past month, I have been very impressed by how the employees have rallied-together to do all that it takes to get the food out to hungry customers. The management here appears to really care about having their customers leave happy. All customers are greeted warmly as we enter and the energy here is warm and appreciative. I have been impressed by 2 different shift managers who, in my opinion, have the rare ability to rally the troops in a way where everyone working seems happy to "pull together". In summation...The food is pretty good--as is the value. Keep in mind that this is a fast food place that is part of an international chain, so it's not going to be crazy-succulent and decadent. It is also not going to served at a pace that will allow the food to be savored and reveled in. But you will get decent Chinese--and you will get it fast. As an added bonus, if you stay and pay attention to what is going on in the kitchen and service lines, you will likely observe what very effective inspiring leadership, and motivated team membership looks like. read more

We found a bug in our food!!!!! which was Absolutely disgusting. When we called the manager asked us to bring in the plate for "evidence" and once we got there to prove that there In fact was a bug he made it seem like it wasn't from their kitchen. His words exactly were " hmm this seems like a flying bug, we don't have those here". What is the deal with NO FORTUNE COOKIES!? We, my sister and ii have beem eating at PANDA EXPRESS more, recently. Of the Dozen or more times we have dined at the restaurant lately, we have received NO cookies when we got our orders at least 7 times or such. Each time we have asked for them at the counter later, and received extra cookies several times, I'll admit. Is this just us? We aren't the cutest or friendliest patrons, I'll confess. OR, is this a system wide scam to SAVE COOKIES? IF they short cookie 1000 diners, let's say, they KNOW that many, or most, won't complain about it. Some won't notice, others won't care, and some will have ordered theirs to go and be unwilling to resolve the issue. Well I came here in high hopes of good take out. Been to others.. So we chose tHe 3 entre deal, to go. All served in a foam box so technically it's the same.. one cook , bare handed, no gloves. I've been going to Panda Express for years in California. I moved to Tucson in 2021 and frequently went to the one on Oracle at least twice a week. In California we received our sweet & sour or soy sauce in small containers if we asked, which was nice. The one on Oracle would not give out the containers, instead they used the little packages, ok I can deal with that, even though they raised their prices. The last time I was there in mid February, I was at the checkout and asked for six or seven of the sweet & sour with my meal and was told they have a limit of five and that was straight from the manager! That did it for me, I told him he could keep his sauce and asked if the extra 7-8 cents he saved was worth loosing a frequent customer, he just looked at me and said sorry. I walked out and I told him I wouldn't be back and haven't since. read more

I was tired of the easy, usual suspects for a work lunch meeting. I needed to place the order without taking the time to find out what each and every person wanted - 18-20 people, give me a break! Although the food is good, Serial Grillers for pizza, Baggin's for sandwiches and the like was getting boring. I decided to turn to Panda Express. Yesterday I used their easy online ordering for catering, selected the store closest to me, when I wanted the food ready for pick up, built my order for 18-22 people, paid and got the heck offline. Today I walked in to the store at 11:12 (said I wanted my order ready at 11:15) and they were just finishing the last batch of mixed vegetables and putting them in the tray. One of the workers carried my order out and put it in my car. The meal went over well and we all pigged out. Brown rice, mixed vegetables, chow mein, orange chicken, beijing beef, mushroom chicken, cream cheese rangoons and fortune cookies. They only had 2 dishes ready (chow main and orange chicken) the woman told me "this is all we have and we are not making any more." Also they already had the chairs stacked up ready to close. I work in a food establishement and this is unnaceptable... you should be ready to serve the entire menu until the minute you close - otherwise.. why be open?? I ordered a small drink with my meal, for two reasons. I'm on a budget and I'm trying not to indulge in excess of sugar in my diet. I had the small drink cup in my hand when I went to pay. I find out I was charged for a large drink. I asked the cashier to please refund me for the large drink and charge me for the small drink. She responded by handing me a large cup. I responded with, I don't want the large drink I would like the small drink that I ordered please, again I asked for a refund. She said, "We don't give refunds" I'm a reasonable person, I understand she just made a mistake. I also don't want to pay for something I didn't order. I asked to speak to the manager. Manager came over, and I explained what happened. I asked the manager "can I get a refund?" Immediately she went on the offensive telling me she trained all her employees to initially refuse refunds "it's bad for the store" All I said was.... Horrible !!! There is no option for no stars so they got one. Rude staff, no choices of food. When I asked for something to be made I was told no. They said the chicken was frozen and they couldn't make the string bean chicken. And when I didn't want anything else she said well don't you you at least want the rice. (The noodles were the only thing that looked fresh.) -We asked for teriyaki sauce on the side and changed our mind when we saw the girl give it a stir and it was a thick, congealed clump. -We waited about 10 minutes for numerous entrees to finish cooking. The girl behind us got a free drink because she had to wait. Our party of 5 got nothin'! -Cream cheese rangoons were chewy, not crisp. Overall... When I opened the door, I saw two separate packages. When I brought them inside, I noticed one was from Panda Express. However, my friend needs to eat lower sodium dishes, and he surprised me by saying Panda has options for him, so there we went. I ordered up a 2-entree item and to be good, asked for steamed white rice (they have it in a kettle there, kind of hidden). The rice was good- I'm always pleased how pleasant it is. For my sides, I took a teriyaki chicken and an orange chicken. They were shocked I didn't want sauce on my teriyaki chicken, but I was holding off to be a good boy. Both were delicious, utterly delicious. I ate like a voracious animal. My friend took a side of veggies and orange chicken with his white rice. He loved the veggies but dumped the cabbage as a non-cabbage eater. We took two large drinks to go and the total was about $18 and change. Not bad for a filling, delicious meal. The older chinese lady that waited on us barely speaks English and gave us fried rice instead of white rice which was ordered for our grandchildren so I had to make white rice at home Its amazing how hard it is to get good help anymore.
