Bacalaitos had a wooden piece of stick

My husband orders from time to time at this place. Sometime ago he order their fried foods and I found a piece of wood. The bacalaito did not have much of the cod fish in it and was slightly under cooked. we had taken it to go. I didn't get to really enjoy it while it was fresh but I ate it the next day and took it for lunch the next day, to a great big disappointment. They may need to slow down and really put to heart the process of really showing some love in their food, not a piece of wood.

Never disappoints. Today I had the pork Jibarito and it was delicious. The alcapuria was also good. Service was fast and friendly. This restaurant has a lively ambience with salsa music playing.

Pastel in top right corner. Bottom left is roasted pork.

Pay at the front. Take credit card Excellent service Alcapurria ($2.50)- excellent seasoning inside for the meat. Outside is a hint of sweetness, and crunchy texture Alcapurria de Yuca ($2.50)- good seasoning inside. Outside nice texture Relleano de papa- fried crispy potato ball. It's not like Portos Sangria ($8) Carne frita $12/lb. We got half lb..It's fried chicharoons. The skin was so hard but the rest was super good. Morcilla $12/lb. Half lb is 3 sausages, it was very good tasted like rice in the middle. Lechon asadon$12/lb.- it's was the worst item. Little dry on outside but soft inside. Pastel ($3.50)- this was soo soo good. The outside was super soft and moist and inside meat was tasty. Better than Mexican tamale. Sangria ($8)

Cool atmosphere in this well decorated space. I stopped in for some takeout and was impressed. Fast friendly service at the counter. Paste Lilly's were crispy savory and delicious. I got a pound of their lechon that was great. Tender flavorful and really made for a great lunch. Prices are reasonable.

Quaint Puerto Rican restaurant in the middle of Hermosa! The restaurant was quite big with eclectic design and there seemed to be a possible event space in the back? The service was fast even when showing up within an hour of closing. The waitress was friendly & personable but definitely a restaurant to practice your spanish. The food was solid. The "dumplings" were new to me and I enjoyed the yam pork fried dumpling more since the banana came off a bit too sweet. The jibaritos did the job but would suggest no cheese as the cheese they give seemed like kraft cheese. Overall a nice local spot to get your jibarrito fix :)

Tried this place at Taste of Chicago this year and haven't stopped thinking about it! The pastelillo (beef empanada) blew my mind! Such flavorful beef filling and a crispy shell that feels light and not too greasy. The lechón is some of the most tender pork I've had. The arroz con gandules and habichuelas may be one of my new fave rice & bean combos (which is saying a lot as I'm loyal to the white rice black bean combo of Latin America). Definitely put me on to Puerto Rican food! Need to try out the place in person if takeout was this good!

El Jibarito de Bistec plate.

Basic customer service. Steak Jibarito was seasoned & tender however, little on the cold side perhaps because it was cold inside the place. Arroz con dules and habichuelas guisadas was good. So was the Alcapurria (not shown).

I was craving whole fried fish so I searched Caribbean on Apple Maps and this place amongst a few others popped up so i made the trek from Old Town. Definitely worth the trip! The service is fine, it's a busy place with indoor and outdoor seating so the staff is quite busy shuffling from table to table. It's an authentic Puerto Rican establishment so some employees speak good English and others not too much which is fine. I knew i was getting the snapper before I arrived, however, I did substitute the side salad for pepper and onions because lettuce is my least favorite green (&I eat all my greens on rotation so that should tell you something). After placing my order, my food came out within about 15 minutes. It came out hot with a few limes on top. The side veggies came out a couple Minutes after I asked for them and with avocados which was an appreciated surprise. Having lived in NY and LA, there's always an up charge if like $4 for avocados so when they are given to you without warning and up charge then that's nice from where I sit. The tostones weren't too oily and the fish was perfect. I should have took an after shot but let's just say, I ate down. To the bone. And I am now very full. My meal was $23 before tax so that was good for me! If you are visiting Chicago and looking to eat outside of downtown and not afraid to venture out a little bit, I recommend coming here for sure.

I was invited here by a friend. When I arrived parking was easy to find. When I entered it was busy with people. Clearly a very popular place. I chose to sit outside on this warm day and it was enjoyable. The wait staff was very busy but did really well! I tried a few things for the first time, plantain sandwich, vegetarian, and a pudding. Fabulous food. Definitely would come again?

This food is so disgusting I found a bug and a piece of hair in my food they took so long to bring me my food is was cold I didn't even want to eat here

Ordered through Door Dash and I went crazyyyyyyyy! I ordered soooo much!!! Everything was wrapped perfectly and delivered hot and fresh!!!! Not overly expensive and massive portions!!! The Parcha - Passion Fruit Juice was very refreshing! The Fuego Boricua (1/2oz) hot sauce was very good! A nice homemade hot sauce that packs a punch! 1 lb. Carne Frita - Fried Pork Chunks was good! It's a cross between chicharrones and non smoked bacon. I would say it was more than a pound. The Lechón Asado - Succulent Roast Pork dinner was good too! My only complaint is that it was a little dry. Good but a bit dry. Maybe due to the long commute? My dinner came with arroz con gandules, a salad! The arroz con gandules was cooked perfectly and had the right amount of olives. The Maduros - Sweet Fried Plantains were good. I did have a couple pieces that weren't ripe. However the ones that were were very delicious. I also had a Pastelillo - Savory Beef-Filled Turnover was full of meat and not overly greasy. The creamy garlic sauce was delicious alone, on the salad or as a dip for the pastelillo and fried pork! Great job Ponce!!!!!!!

The beans and rice complimented the skirt steak so well. The chimichurri added this amazing fresh tanginess to every bite. I didn't need to add any extra sauce or anything to my meal. My boyfriend ordered a steak jarbarrito with no cheese. They got the order wrong and had cheese on it, they took it back and pulled the cheese off of it. They did not remake it unfortunately. Making the best out of it he still enjoyed his jarbarito. His only qualm was that the plantain buns were not even on both sides. The ratio of meat to bun is extensive. But It looked and smelled so good! We also ordered passionfruit juice, I don't suggest to order that because it's the blue can juice from the market. It is not natural passionfruit juice. Our waiter was not the best. They do have a lady server in there. We wish we had her because she was very tentative and did end up helping our server out. Ambience was very clean. It does get packed quickly. All in all great experience, we will be back!

I thought the Mofongo was a bit dry, but everything else was phenomenal! I would definitely recommend here for great Puerto Rican Food!

I was a huge fan of the tostones, it was crispy and crunchy and fried to perfection. They put tooo much garlic oil on mines but still edible. I was not a huge fan of the fried pork belly.. it was like I liked it bc I was hungry but I didn't like it enough to come back and order it again.. I think it was the seasoning and it was overly salty for me... besides that it was cooked to perfection. We were greeted with a smile and guided to choose our own table. A basket of bread and butter was brought over promptly. I ordered appetizers, tostones rellenos de lechón and carne frita. They came out at the same time as the entrees. It only took about 10 minutes! We ordered a volcan with steak in red sauce (mofongo relleno de bistec en salsa), breaded chicken breast and lechón with arroz con gandules. The food was spectacular! Everything was very well seasoned and reminded me of home (born and raised in PR, moved here as an adult). I would definitely recommend that anyone come here for authentic Puerto Rican food. Be mindful that they are very generous with their portion sizes. We ended up taking about half of it home. There are worse problems one can have. :-)

We stumbled on Caribella since it was near spots we wanted to do our errands at. We were delighted by their customer service and delicious food. Items we got: Caribella Skillet: 8.5/10, the plantains were a great addition to the skillet and it was the first time we had it like that. The seasonings that were adding were flavorful. Caribella 2 eggs any style: 7/10 my eggs I requested over easy. It was a lot rarer than I wanted the whites at the bottom were still raw and runny. The house potatoes were amazing, perfect texture and crunch. I love that they had sour dough toast as an option. The sausage links were good pairings as well. Matcha latte (hot): 8/10 great once I asked for additional simple syrup (I personally like it sweeter) They offered us some salsa to pair with the food and their salsa is a great delight for both the skillet and the eggs. Their salsa packed good flavors without being overly spicy for us. We ended up getting their 8oz bottle for $6. The ambiance is good as well for a date spot if you're in town. They open at 8am and we got in around 8:05 so it was not too busy yet for a Sunday morning. I would for sure recommend trying their skillet since the plantains were really good!!

I was thinking it wouldn't be promising cause I was thinking steak sandwich tuff, hard to chew, a piece of steak between two pieces of bread. Well I was duped on that thought. I received the stead sandwich, I opened the tray and was so surprised of what I saw. It was cut in half, and it was big. I took the first bite and let me tell you, it was so mouth watering I had to take a second bite. This steak sandwich melted in my mouth. It was all chopped up, into pieces, it was easy to chew, and swallow. It was seasoned just right, and I just couldn't stop eating it. I immediately asked where was this place. The sandwich came with a dressing, lettuce and tomato, on a French bread roll. I fell in love. I decided I needed to now go there, and get another one so I went there yesterday. I sat in the car in front of the place. I placed my order then went inside to get it. The restaurant has seating and lots of it for eating inside. They had tv's on the wall and a view to the outside. They had a public bathroom. There were patrons dining in when I arrived, and I walked up to the counter to get my sandwich. I informed hopefully it was the manager, that I had eaten the steak sandwich on saturday and it was mouth watering, and I just had to have another one. I didnt order fries when I made the order but I asked and they made fries to go with my steak sandwich. The fries too were just like I like them. Thin crispy and taste great. After speaking with the manger he wanted me to try another item they carried. It was an empanada, that too was delicious. The sandwich is so big full of steak, literally falling out the bread I couldn't even finish it. I had to save half for later that evening. This place impressed me. I don't know if they have self parking, I park in front, and ran in for my food and left. I was also told once they close the eat in dining for the evening they have a space next to the dine in that you can order for take out, and pick up till late night and thats a plus. I have to give this restaurant and awesome review cause it's rare to like everything about a business you frequent for the first time. The patrons that I saw eating at the tables looked happy and enjoying their food. I'm sure they carry more than the the steak sandwich, but that was my fav order. Thank you to the manager for allowing me to try the empanada free of charge.
