The service was good. I went for a pick up. So, I ordered and waited about 15 minutes. Everybody was really nice! The food was pretty decent not my favorite, but still good! By the way, not my first time there. Still ok though.

The pescado frito with maduros and side salad.

All of the food we ordered was perfectly cooked. We had pescado frito - the fry on it was excellent. We also had the parche and it was tasty and refreshing. The main disappointment on the parche was that they said they were out of the large so we had to order the small. For something not pre-packaged, that means they were out of large cups. That seems like a major and easily avoidable mistep for a restaurant. The octopus and shrimp salad with mofongo was a delight. The pescado frito we got came with Maduros and a salad. We wouldn't get the salad again for our other side based on the fact that it was just iceberg with some sliced tomatoes on top. The main knock on this place is that the service was incredibly slow. It took several minutes just to get parche after we ordered it and they were far from busy -like three or four whole tables the entire time we were there. Everything took a while even our waters at first.

Menú

Place is good and food is outstanding taste just like you at home with grandma cooking. It gets busy and not enough waitress

Ensalada de Camerones y Pulpo con tostones

A year ago I gave this place a great review on Google. Today our experience left much to be desired. We had 3-4 servers during our time there. I asked for water and a cup of ice for my drink, I didn't get either, only the sodas in a can. Our appetizers came out at different times (all frituras). Alcapurria and pastelillo first, about 7-8 minutes later the pastel and then the bacalaito (which we didn't eat because the entrees came about a minute later- 2 of them anyway). We ordered 2 jibaritos and 1 ensalada de camarón con pulpo. The sándwiches came first and I waited at least 15 minutes for my salad before asking one of the servers to check on it. She brought it out. There's no excuse for that, the salads are not cooked! We asked for boxes to go which were never brought out so my daughter got up to get them herself. The place looks like it a got a little face lift and the food is tasty but the service here is TERRIBLE! Servers are all over the place and it doesn't seem they're assigned a certain area. This leads to tables being overlooked. Nobody ever came to check on us. We had to keep calling their attention and they have the audacity to default to 18% tip if it's not changed. If you like good food and being totally ignored by servers- this may be your place. Haha.

Soon you walk in staff greets you and are very kind and nice Atmosphere and the vibe with the music on point perfect time for the summer to sit outside and have their parcha amazing you will not be disappointed but the rest of the menu is really good highly recommend coming in and checking it out will not be disappointed

Pastel in top right corner. Bottom left is roasted pork.

Pay at the front. Take credit card Excellent service Alcapurria ($2.50)- excellent seasoning inside for the meat. Outside is a hint of sweetness, and crunchy texture Alcapurria de Yuca ($2.50)- good seasoning inside. Outside nice texture Relleano de papa- fried crispy potato ball. It's not like Portos Sangria ($8) Carne frita $12/lb. We got half lb..It's fried chicharoons. The skin was so hard but the rest was super good. Morcilla $12/lb. Half lb is 3 sausages, it was very good tasted like rice in the middle. Lechon asadon$12/lb.- it's was the worst item. Little dry on outside but soft inside. Pastel ($3.50)- this was soo soo good. The outside was super soft and moist and inside meat was tasty. Better than Mexican tamale. Sangria ($8)

Bacalaitos had a wooden piece of stick

My husband orders from time to time at this place. Sometime ago he order their fried foods and I found a piece of wood. The bacalaito did not have much of the cod fish in it and was slightly under cooked. we had taken it to go. I didn't get to really enjoy it while it was fresh but I ate it the next day and took it for lunch the next day, to a great big disappointment. They may need to slow down and really put to heart the process of really showing some love in their food, not a piece of wood.

Pastelillos and Lechon Asado

Cool atmosphere in this well decorated space. I stopped in for some takeout and was impressed. Fast friendly service at the counter. Paste Lilly's were crispy savory and delicious. I got a pound of their lechon that was great. Tender flavorful and really made for a great lunch. Prices are reasonable.

Jibarito de Lechn

Quaint Puerto Rican restaurant in the middle of Hermosa! The restaurant was quite big with eclectic design and there seemed to be a possible event space in the back? The service was fast even when showing up within an hour of closing. The waitress was friendly & personable but definitely a restaurant to practice your spanish. The food was solid. The "dumplings" were new to me and I enjoyed the yam pork fried dumpling more since the banana came off a bit too sweet. The jibaritos did the job but would suggest no cheese as the cheese they give seemed like kraft cheese. Overall a nice local spot to get your jibarrito fix :)

Tried this place at Taste of Chicago this year and haven't stopped thinking about it! The pastelillo (beef empanada) blew my mind! Such flavorful beef filling and a crispy shell that feels light and not too greasy. The lechón is some of the most tender pork I've had. The arroz con gandules and habichuelas may be one of my new fave rice & bean combos (which is saying a lot as I'm loyal to the white rice black bean combo of Latin America). Definitely put me on to Puerto Rican food! Need to try out the place in person if takeout was this good!

El Chillo aka red snapper

I was craving whole fried fish so I searched Caribbean on Apple Maps and this place amongst a few others popped up so i made the trek from Old Town. Definitely worth the trip! The service is fine, it's a busy place with indoor and outdoor seating so the staff is quite busy shuffling from table to table. It's an authentic Puerto Rican establishment so some employees speak good English and others not too much which is fine. I knew i was getting the snapper before I arrived, however, I did substitute the side salad for pepper and onions because lettuce is my least favorite green (&I eat all my greens on rotation so that should tell you something). After placing my order, my food came out within about 15 minutes. It came out hot with a few limes on top. The side veggies came out a couple Minutes after I asked for them and with avocados which was an appreciated surprise. Having lived in NY and LA, there's always an up charge if like $4 for avocados so when they are given to you without warning and up charge then that's nice from where I sit. The tostones weren't too oily and the fish was perfect. I should have took an after shot but let's just say, I ate down. To the bone. And I am now very full. My meal was $23 before tax so that was good for me! If you are visiting Chicago and looking to eat outside of downtown and not afraid to venture out a little bit, I recommend coming here for sure.

The arroz con gandules was the perfect balance of seasoned rice and tender pork, while the mofongo was incredibly flavorful and satisfying, with just the right amount of garlic and texture. The tostones were crisp, golden, and served with a delicious dipping sauce that had just the right tang to complement the fried goodness. It's clear that the restaurant takes pride in true Puerto Rican culinary while delivering a fresh and satisfying experience. The service was friendly, and the portions were generous, definitely a great value for the price.

I like this lil spot.. I was just driving pass hungry one day and decided to stop in. Kinda small…read morelocation but they make the best of it.. i ordered tostones which are fried plantains and fried pork belly...which is exactly what it sounds like. I was a huge fan of the tostones, it was crispy and crunchy and fried to perfection. They put tooo much garlic oil on mines but still edible. I was not a huge fan of the fried pork belly.. it was like I liked it bc I was hungry but I didn't like it enough to come back and order it again.. I think it was the seasoning and it was overly salty for me... besides that it was cooked to perfection. Maybe I need to come back and try something else on the menu but for now it's not a place I would rush back to and eat at.. I'm sorry I hate being mean but I have to be honest.
