We love this place, but lately not so much---the woman bartending is very nice and will upgrade your pours without telling you. That's ok if I get charged for what she actually poured. However, when her second pour is basically 1 1/2 oz. less, yet she charges you for a double pour---hmmm--that is not cool! We didn't want to cause a scene, but she needs to know that we are on to her scam. We wanted to alert other patrons before we left, but we are hoping that she will knock it off and stop the scam. Tonight I went to Pomeroy with my brother and my sis-in-law. We had a choice of 4:40 or 9:30 reservation. When we got there it seemed there was some confusion as to where we should be seated. They sat us toward the front. I wasn't happy with the table but we didn't speak up. We should have . We were greeted by a young man named Donavan who explained our waitress would be with us soon. She came. We asked her if there were any specials. She mentioned a few things that were on the menu. Then she took our drink order. She was friendly enough. She brought our drinks, took our order. Asked if we wanted bread. We said yes. When she threw our bread on the table, my brother asked if we had offended her or just bothering her. We laughed it off. My SIL had the lobster risotto which was very good. I had the filet which was excellent as well. My brother had the trout. He said it was good but wanted some lemon. Our waitress never came back to check on us until she asked if we wanted dessert. This is the third time I was there. The first time was a 40th bday party my son had for his wife. It was very nice. I brought a friend of mine here to celebrate a birthday. At that meal we had excellent service and great food. The service tonight was subpar. Our reservation was for 4:30, it wasn't THAT crowded that she couldn't have checked to make sure we had everything we needed. Doubtful I'll go back. read more

A welcome addition to the Winnetka dining scene, creatively serving all the French classics in a traditionally boisterous bistro atmosphere right out of the 11th Arrondissement. Every aspect of the experience has been carefully thought through, from decor through menu design, tableware, and of course the amazing food. Encounters with valet, maitre d', and wait staff were professional and welcoming. Particular shout-out to Sommelier, who not only has compiled a great wine list, but also really knows the menu! Enjoy the bar scene or settle in to a booth for your moules frites......it's a winner either way! For a private tete-a-tete, the secluded back bar is definitely the place to be. read more

This is my new favorite restaurant. The ambience in their outdoor area with a fireplace, heaters and lights is exquisite. The waiters, bus boys and many blue coated managers see to everything. You are treated as a special guest. The food is remarkable. Came here with a group of ten on a Saturday. Service was top notch, the waiter and his sidekick were always around to refresh drinks, clear finished plates, refill water etc... We had oysters, tomato bread, and steak tartar for appetizers. Everything was fresh and prepared very well. I had the bouillabaisse which was outstanding and mopped up that delicious broth with a couple baguettes. Everyone enjoyed their entree. We were having a little too much fun as the table next to us asked us to keep it down. We immediately apologized and bought them dessert, all was right in the world! A+! read more

We enjoyed this restaurant for the first time yesterday. What a pure pleasure! The food was outstanding, the ambiance superb and the waiter a total joy. The only negative was the noise level, a bit too loud. Next time we'll reserve a booth rather than a table, should be quieter. Also, I'd say it should be 3 $$$, not 2 $$. What a great addition to the North Shore restaurant scene. Atmosphere is very French Bistro with two great outdoor spaces. Lively but not deafening noise level. The hottest ticket in town -- we had to book two months in advance to get a weekend table. And therein lies the problem. Yes, the food is very good (the seafood tower was amazing but the steak and risotto just average). The wine list is interesting, varied, if overpriced. And yes the service is very friendly and efficient. But the restaurant is so loud that we could not carry on a conversation without shouting at each other. I know this was the fashion in downtown Chicago downing some twenty years ago and still lingers in some places. It appears this outdated and unwelcome trend has finally made it to the North Shore. read more

Absolutely delightful outdoor dining experience on their beautiful new back patio. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Pomeroy salad and the Lyonnaise salad, and our entrees were excellent. The lobster risotto was delicious with a generous portion of lobster and just the right amount of well-seasoned risotto. The mussels were very good, with a wonderful garlic/wine broth. The pot de crème was outstanding, worth every single calorie. Equally wonderful was our server Jimmy, who was very nice, attentive and helpful. We don't often make the reverse commute from the city to the suburbs looking for great food, but Pomeroy will now become part of our regular rotation. The atmosphere was perfect for a warm September night as our family sat in one of the front booths with the windows open wide to the cozy sidewalk café. I started with the French Onion Soup Gratinee which is always a test for any French bistro, passed with flying colors; hot and delicious. The four of us shared two salads, the Salade Verte and Le Pomeroy which were excellent. Being a French Bistro, we went for the Steak a la Bordelaise which was hands down the best steak frites I have ever had. The cut of steak far better than what is typical for a steak frites, perfectly cooked and flavored with a butter/shallot sauce, it melted in my mouth. The biggest test came to the frites since my wife is a certified French Fry snob. They were perfect, hot and crispy and a little bit soft inside. But the best part is that the fries are cooked in their own fryer, so they are Gluten-Free. In fact, like all Ballyhoo restaurants, Pomeroy does an excellent job providing safe Gluten-Free food which is a requirement for our Celiac daughter. They also have a kid's menu so the little ones could also partake in their junior Steak Frites. The delightful assortment of Macarons is also Gluten-Free as they should be but aren't always. I highly recommend Pomeroy; you won't be disappointed. read more
