Had a "full color" appointment with Nelson. I have naturally curly, brown hair that I dye icy/ashy blonde. He did a decent job touching up my routes and having the color flow with my existing color. However, he and his assistant were both very rough with the brushing of my hair, both when it was dry and wet, causing breakage. I felt rushed through my appointment despite showing up early. You can't go wrong here. Stacia and Richard and their staff all do great work. Granted it's pricey.($60 for my cut but, as my mom always said, you get what you pay for.) To save money I went elsewhere for a year or so but my hair never looked as good as when I went to pomegranate. I'm wearing it very short now so I have Rich cut it. ( he does my three sons' hair - they won't go anywhere else.) It looks Ssoooo much better than when I went to the cheap salons! I don't understand how Rich does it it but he makes my hair look cute and fresh and easy to wear rather than the scalped look I got at ( insert cheap salon name here).They also do scheduling and reminders on line which i really appreciate. Sooooooo...I go to Stacia:) Bottom line is that she is an amazing hairstylist. So if you have to wait a few days for an appointment with her, you will not regret it. Stacia and her husband Rich are the owners of Pomegranate and they know how to run their business. This means, whoever you choose as your stylist, you will have quality work done on your hair. They hand pick their stylists and the salon works together as a team. In the past, I had the opportunity to work under Stacia and Rich and I got the chance to watch them work their magic behind the scenes. They have a ton of knowledge, education, and experience. On an impulse and recommendations from coworkers/classmates, I went to Pomegranate Salon for a haircut after at least 6 months. I was able to book an appointment online (AMAZING) for the same day (ALSO AMAZING)! Natasha was my hair dresser, and she was very kind and thorough. I admitted I wasn't sure what I wanted, and she helped me decide on what was right for me and my hair. She did an amazing job, well worth the $60 price. I've been here three times in the last couple years. I went to Tara first to get highlights, and have gotten by hair cut by Olivia a couple times. Olivia is great - she'll listen to you, deliver what you want, make your hair look good, and cut it so that it looks good for months to come. It's been hard for me to find a hair stylist I can trust, so I'm glad I've found one here in Davis! I think the prices here are very reasonable. I would definitely recommend Olivia if you want to get your hair cut. The people are very friendly at this salon, too, and will offer you drinks. Stacia is a hair architect, I've been going to her to cut/color my hair since 2007 and have had a myriad of styles in that time. When I moved to Sacramento in 2011 I tried out some other salons, including Deeda, Mosaic, and Mecca. But they don't compare at all to the consistency of Stacia. Me and a few family members got our hair and makeup done here for a wedding we were attending. The woman who did our hair, Larisa was amazing. She did a fantastic job, and I would give her 5 stars for her up do's. HOWEVER .... The makeup that we got done here was borderline awful. I felt like they wanted to make some extra cash and had a hair stylist bring her big box of misc. crap makeup. It was nothing professional. She was not a makeup artist. It was a hair stylist, sorting through a makeup box of what seemed to be crap samples you received from a Estée Lauder goodie bag and dirty brushes. For $70 and a tip, I feel like I was robbed. Especially since I had to go back and wash it all off. Hair, yes - makeup, definite no. wish they could have referred us to a real makeup artist. read more

Second visit to pomegranate salon hopefully they can recreate the hair style I am looking for. Now I just have to find the pomade I have been looking for... Update: What a great hair stylist Amber is, she looked at my guide and explained clearly what she would do to make it look like it. She removed a lot of hair, but she did it all very meticulously, part by part, with scissors and hair pins. She made sure that everything laid right and when back three of four times to trim up the lines and feather in the new cuts to match the undercut. It is way more than I expected with such a short time in between making the appointment and rescheduling with a hair stylist that does men's haircut. I am very very satisfied with the work Amber did, and I made a appointment 6 weeks from now, even though she said it would grow in nicely. Just in case I feel like I want it to look like this again. Plus I left with Pomade in hand to keep my hair high in the pompador or at least smooth and tight on the sides for a side part. read more

Hannah is the best!! I have long hair that is partially wavy partially straight and always difficult for people to cut correctly, or at least how I'd like. I usually stray away from any sort of style or layers because of this. Hannah listened to my concerns about the texture of my hair and how I liked to wear it. She had some suggestions which were helpful and she was able to cut my hair exactly how we discussed. Which is amazing! I have long been a lover of Pomegranate and have never left there feeling anything les than delighted with my look as well as the friendly service I always receive. Stacia the owner is a generous soul...for example, coming in on a day they were closed (Monday's) to do my hair and make-up before I was being taped for a newscast. Noel, my regular stylist is always flexible, loving, creative and talented, and turns my raggamuffin look into super stylie in a quick and fun time in her chair. The rest of the staff has also been great in a pinch or helping style my family for events. My aunt from NY recently wanted a new look and they let her walk in off the street and I barely recognized her on the way out. I can't believe no one has written a review about Larisa! I have lived in Davis for about four years now but was always too afraid to actually commit to cutting my hair with a new stylist. I finally broke down and looked up good salons to find a stylist who could cut my mid-back-length hair to a shorter bob. Larisa was great and so sweet! She did an excellent job. She was a perfectionist and I felt like I was in good hands! I couldn't be happier with my new haircut and I will definitely be going back to her for the upkeep. I've bounced around many salons in Davis and Pomegranate is my favorite. It's managed very well- I'm always greeted and made to feel that I'm important when I walk in- and it's much cleaner than many others I've been to, even with the dogs around. I've been to Natalie, Olivia, and Larissa, and all three are wonderful and professional. I feel I have their undivided attention during my cut and color appointments and that they really listen to my instructions and concerns. Natalie is my current go-to person and can't say enough good things about her! Also- there is zero pressure to buy their hair products. At other salons I'm typically asked, or encouraged, to buy product when I pay for the haircut, but not here. Natalie might suggest something, but I've never experienced pressure, like at an Aveda salon. I love that. read more

My first experience with Pomegranate Salon was when they did my hair and make up for a friend's wedding. They were amazing! I've had my hair done a number of times and this was by far the best. I had strangers coming up to me complimenting it all night long. So, when it came time to pick someone to do my hair and make up for my wedding day I knew exactly who I was going to. Stacia did a superb job on my hair again! And, Natalie's make up work was impeccable. I looked and felt like the most beautiful girl in the world. It was perfect for our wedding day. No cut corners (pun intended): I am growing my hair out. Last summer, Rich gave me a darling, low-maintenance cut. Then I got the bug to have it long again. Throughout the transition, Rich has listened carefully to what I want and I have had a great cut every time. My first visit to Pomegranate and I am very pleased :) I got my hair cut by Ginger, just a trim and change my layers a bit. Ginger was fantastic, she was very easy to talk with and asked me questions about what I liked/was looking for. I am growing out my bangs and they're at an awkward length right now and they curl at weird angles, but she was able to make them look SO much better. I'm coming back in August because I am finally going to experiment with coloring my hair a natural redhead color and am looking forward to seeing what Ginger comes up with :) Shampoo/Cond., cut, and blow dry took 1hr total and was $60. I usually go to Great Clips and it costs me like $16 (for cut only, no shampoo or dry) I think, but I wanted to see if more money would make a significant difference and it did. I'm much happier with my hair, so I think it's worth the price and am happy I found someone I can trust with my hair :) read more

I have been getting my hair cut at Pomegranate Salon for over a year. I have always been very happy with the hair cuts and always get compliments. I wanted to stop coloring my hair but going from dark brown to gray was a dramatic change to manage without going to a really short cut. I have shoulder length hair and did not want to have that ugly look of lighter roots while growing out my hair. I had asked other stylists in the past if they could lighten my hair so that the transition to gray would be less obvious; none of them would agree to try it. I had heard that Stacia is a master with hair color. I can confirm that she is. Stacia agreed to give me highlights and lowlights so that I could transition to gray while looking natural. She did a wonderful job! It looks very natural and and I have had many compliments on my hair. It came out even better than I had hoped. My hair still looks very healthy and the coloring looks natural. Many of my friends have told me I even look better now than I did in the brown that used to be my natural color. read more

I have had my hair cut by Noel several times. I went in last week and decided to go for a shorter, shoulder-length, cut. While Noel is very nice and has done a good job in the past, I was not happy with this last cut. She spent about 10 minutes on my hair. I have thick, curly hair. She gave me a bob hair cut with no layering. When my hair dried, I looked like a giant, puffy triangle. I called the salon and they issued me a refund. I will not be going back to Noel. read more

This review is for my service with Nelson in May 2017. I've been waiting for a year to overcome my anger from the service I got there but no success! I used to go to Nelson for hair cut and was very happy with him. However, last year he suggested Olaplex treatment for my hair and when I went for my appointment, Stacia stepped in and made him using the "System Professional" conditioner and they charged me $80!!! It absolutely didn't do ANYTHING to my hair because it was only a HAIR CONDITIONER! I was super upset and emailed Nelson and he suggested me a free service but I will never go back to that salon. So, if you look for a super luxury hair conditioner which costs you $80 bucks and only lasts until you wash your hair, Pomegranate Salon is your best choice. read more

I just got a simple haircut and it was $60 dollars (actually because I was donating my hair it was only $30 but still way more than I'm used to paying). I got an okay haircut, but it was nothing special. If it was $30 all the time (about what I would expect to pay for that haircut) the I'd probably return, but $60 isn't worth it in my opinion. read more

Came here a while back to get my hair cut and colored. The place was a little hard to find and the parking was limited, but of course that was to be expected when you go to downtown Davis. The salon setup was different than most of the Salons I've been to, it looked more like a home than a salon, but maybe that's because I'm use to going to salons like Regis in the mall. Anyway, I knew this place was going to be on the pricey side, so I had really high expectations. The salon staff was friendly and so was my stylist, Ginger. She was very sweet and personable and very thorough in explaining the details of how my hair was going to turn out. She did an amazing job and my ombre hair color turned out better than I expected! The salon is a pretend to a high level type mostly with the $ charged. I have tried 2 stylist there and their color is great, but hair cuts is quite variable. I have seen Rich's work and besides being charming, he is not a good stylist... sorry dude. My friend liked to be in his chair to chat with him but came out with a ridiculous cut! Tara has a good hand but did not listen to what I asked for 2 times. Her cuts used to have a potential, but she has gotten more careless. She is NOT a precision cutter - my friend is her regular customer and she has had to go home to correct the ridiculously uneven parts... And my last cuts were super uneven - not intended! I am not sure that is worth $60? Last try with Larissa - a pleasure to be in her hands, she is thorough, listens to the needs of the customer. My cut was super after blow drying, all kinds of products and such, but I have to yet again struggle with it at home... I will try to visit Larissa ones again because I feel that I could find my style with her. read more

Went back after a great cut with Caitlin (who has now moved) and got a cut with Rich. He was very friendly and enthusiastic and did not mind tweaking my bob until I had exactly what I wanted. He even noted my slighly pointy head and personalized the haircut to my head shape to make it look rounder. When I got home, I thought one side of my hair looked longer than the other side...so I tried to fix it myself...bad idea. I went back in that same day and Stacia fixed it for me for free and was nice about it. And I got to meet Stella the doggie today. Will definitely be back! read more
