My 10-year-old daughter had a haircut with Desi this week. Desi was patient and communicated well with my daughter, who was a little shy. Desi took the extra time to confirm exactly how much length my daughter wanted cut off, and how she wanted her bangs cut and styled. She did a really good job of making sure my daughter understood how her hair would look after the cut and making sure that was exactly what she wanted. My daughter enjoyed the shampoo and conversation with Desi during the cut. Desi also did a beautiful blowout. My daughter felt very glamorous and pampered and was thrilled with her new hairstyle! She kept asking me and my husband to take pictures of her new hair. She enjoyed the experience and cannot wait to go back! I've had Jose cut and color my hair twice at E street and it's the only place I'll go in Davis for the rest of my time here. I've gotten two drastically different colors and he's done great both times. My hair is naturally curly so getting it cut has been a huge issue in the past and I have had one too many bad haircuts to risk going to any ol' salon. E Street solved all of my haircut fears! In addition to the excellent job, I've always had the best service. I don't only have curly hair but also super long and thick hair so it takes FOREVER to dye and cut and style. Jose worked well into 6 o'clock the first time I got my hair done to make sure that it was done properly. I've never had to wait more than a week for an appointment, which is one of the reasons I ended up at E street in the first place. Finally, one of my favorite things about E Street was after my first color appointment, I had a spot that I was worried about and as soon as I walked in they made note of the problem and were eager to fix it ASAP (free of charge, of course). This was my first time coloring my hair at a salon and I had a great experience! For reference I had Jennifer Marks as my stylist. I came in not completely knowing how I wanted my hair done. I brought in photos to ask what would look best or how I could mesh the photos together. Jennifer was really great in listening to my concerns and offering suggestions that would work for me. For the actual coloring she walked me through thr process of bleaching and toning my hair and afterwards she gave me advice on how to maintain color as well :) Jennifer was friendly and we had conversation as well - my appointment passed by so quickly! It was shorter than I expected and the process was smooth. The price was very reasonable and fair for the service and I really enjoyed my experience! read more

Made a same-day appointment with Kyle based on the positive reviews on Yelp. Sadly, the whole experience fell short. From the get-go, his entire demeanor was aloof and disinterested. I told him that I wanted to thin my hair out because it had been getting too thick and boxy. We talked about the desired style for a minute before he did a slight dry cut before the wash. This was the part that threw me off the most. All of the salons I've been to in the past have never fucked up a hair wash so I was actually pretty shocked that this one was so bad. He lazily wet the hair and only lathered shampoo on the upper 3/4 of my head super quickly before washing it out, leaving all the hair around my ears and at the nape of my neck unwashed. I literally thought he was doing some pre-wash before actually washing it (that was the only way I could rationalize it), but that itself turned out to the hair wash! I'm used to salons doing 1-2 thorough shampoos, but this was barely one overall. Admittedly, I'm too passive in these situations to call it out but I've never felt the need to inform my hair stylists how to shampoo? The cut itself was alright, and I enjoyed receiving the blowout at the end. Overall, it seemed like he wasn't enjoying his job and I felt the apathy on my end. The whole appointment seemed rushed and I didn't feel like a valued customer. From the yelp reviews, he seems to be great at his job and have many happy customers. I wish I could have had the same experience. My appointment was a 5PM. I wasn't seen until 5:13 and left the salon probably around 5:45. Extremely fast appointment and underwhelming experience. Was told by receptionist it would be around $50-60 depending on what I get done, but somehow a simple trim/thinning amounted to $60? Left $12 in tip so I spent $72 overall. I feel like my money could have went elsewhere. I'm not one to leave negative reviews, but aside from the okay haircut nothing else about the experience was particularly good. read more

Seriously, can I gush about Jennifer some more? On Saturday, 7/9, I approached Jennifer with a crazy request - could she take my previously dyed dark brown/black hair to an edgy silvery almost-platinum? I had been going crazy over Guy Tang's videos and desperately wanted those gorgeous colors! Jennifer took a look at my hair, noted that it was in good condition and said that we could definitely do it! She wanted to make sure that we maintained the integrity of the hair, and let me know that it would be best to do the lightening in steps. 'm SUPER thankful that she took the time to explain this, since I was previously under the assumption that I could get it done in a day (my hair would probably have fallen out if I had done that!) After our initial discussion, Jennifer put herself on a timer and started bleaching my hair, wrapping each individual section into foils - a lengthy process! The reason she was on a timer is to make sure the bleach doesn't overprocess and cause too much damage and breakage to the hair! She then sat me under a steamer to let the bleach "cook" before rinsing me out and applying a toner and deep condition. I was due to visit Jennifer two weeks later on Saturday, 7/23, but I had an event come up so I went back to Jennifer and asked if she could take me on Wednesday, 7/20. Jennifer is so bomb and totally willing to work with my schedule and squeezed me in that same day. We repeated the process, and Jennifer worked with my hair in sections, so that she could ensure the bleach didn't go over and damage my hair. Another 5 painstaking hours later, Jennifer was finally done with the bleach and she then applied a toner to get the hair to be the silvery platinum color! Seriously, Jennifer is a miracle worker! To be able to take dark, dyed hair and to lift it to a gorgeous platinum with barely any damage - I freaking LOVE her!! Seriously, book your appointment with Jennifer Marks - she's SO good, and she really takes her time to make you look fabulous. read more

First let me start off by saying, I absolutely hate salons. There have been very few times that I've walked out of a salon and said, "wow, that was worth it!" My worst hair fear is having carrot colored blonde-but-really-orange hair and at least 90% of the time that's what I get from the salons I've been to, no matter how well known or expensive. Jessica at E Street took my color from a dark brown to a very light ash blonde and I have never been happier with my hair. We decided to do this in two sessions to maintain the health of my hair but even the in-between color (what normally IS that nasty carrot color blonde) was awesome! She knew I hated orange hair and made a huge effort to take that into consideration before letting me leave her chair. Considering the process my hair was going through, the sessions were cheap and very quick. She knows what she's doing, is extremely enthusiastic about her career and you can definitely trust that she won't let you leave unless she's happy with her work. Never thought I'd be able to get my dark asian hair to this color and still have it feel as healthy as it does. Jessica at E Street works wonders and I'm definitely a client for life. PS. Jose is amazing. I came in (after I tried to dye my hair at home and failed) and asked for strawberry blonde that was done to minimize cost and hair damage. He explained that red fades quickly so it would be wiser to go darker and allow it to fade into my natural blonde over time. His expertise was apparent and I am so glad I went his direction. My hair is now a super natural, rich, and flattering red. He will do what you ask, but I would definitely consider taking his advice...he really knows what he is doing!
