Positives: The salon is in a quaint location and the stylists are very friendly. Super-sweet - especially Morgan. I'll give the stylists props for their vivid color jobs; they do nice work on those, and I've noticed that men leave the shop pleased with their cuts/styles. As for other services....the stylists do put a lot of effort into their coloring, cuts, and styling, but there's a problem. I so dislike posting this, but...the salon is way, way too pricey for work done by stylists with a lack of experience. If you're thinking about making an appointment here, I strongly encourage you to be very clear about the service you expect and what you want your hair to look like before your stylist starts the work - and be absolutely sure that she understands what you're goal is. Maybe bringing a pic or 2 would be a smart idea. *EDITED*: I was displeased with a defensive message I received from the owner of Luci's immediately after posting this review. Morgan has been styling my hair for the 4 years I've gone to UCDavis and I could not be happier with the results each time! She's very good at doing short/cropped cuts on girls and keeps up with the trendy styles from Korea, Japan, etc and could do just what I wanted. When I got my hair cut back at home during the lockdown, my cut got so terribly botched that I ended up crying for a long time. When I got back to Davis, I raced to schedule an appointment and Morgan got me looking fresh again, thank goodness. The service is quick and always entertaining, sometimes you'll find yourself chatting with the whole shop! There's a lot of Asian students in the area so they know how to work with different textured hair, as well as previously colored/treated hair. If you're looking for somewhere that can give you a trendy cut in the Davis area, I highly recommend Luci's! They also do styling for party nights, events, Halloween costumes, etc that turn out super cool. I will say that 40-50$ for a cut is on the pricy side, but I had to pay over 100$ back at home for any assurance that I'd get the same quality of service. It's worth it! The shop is small and homely and follows Covid regulations; the front door is always propped open for ventilation. I think masks are now optional, but it's not a problem to wear it the whole time. Luci is family. I've been getting my hair cut with her since I was a scared little out-of-state freshman at UCD. I used to get my hair cut by whoever was available at her old location, but quickly figured out that Luci is so good at what she does that she does quality work in half the time as everyone else. I usually don't get my hair done in salons, but I wanted a drastic change from my hair that was down to my hips to hair that hung a little bit above my shoulders. I yelped around Davis for a good salon with a decent price and came upon Lucis. Tucked away in a tiny spot, it's easy for a passerby to miss this place. It has a tiny cute feel to it, but not very busy since it seems like a lot of people don't really know that it exists. The staff was very nice and I had my hair done by Luci herself. She said she loved cutting hair short drastically like I wanted. I came in with some pictures on my phone of some haircuts I was thinking of and she did a great job on figuring out exactly what I wanted. Usually when I cut my hair short, I always get the dreaded feeling of loss for my hair. Not this time though! I loved it and felt so sassy with it. Haircuts: Stellar! Con: I scheduled ahead of time and came on time to my appointment, but we didn't start my haircut until 15 minutes later. I scheduled an appointment with Sherri to fix a haircut from another salon that made me feel like I had an uneven blunt bowl cut. Sherri worked her magic and gave me exactly the cut I was looking for the first time, and even kept as much length as possible! She gave me tons of super helpful tips for care and styling of my new cut. Sherri is a fantastic stylist who really listens to what you want and caters the cut to your specific needs. I hate to have a hair style that requires a ton of effort to look polished (or even close to what it looks like leaving a salon) and my new haircut only requires a quick blow dry to look great. I have gotten my hair highlighted and cut by Luci several times now. I have been to MANY other hair salons all over Elk Grove, Sacramento, etc. I am so happy to have finally found this hair salon in Davis! Luci is such a caring and generous individual, and she does such a great job cutting and coloring my hair. My hair is somewhat hard to work with, and Luci is always patient and very attentive to what I'm asking her for, and achieves the color/style I want every time. Luci is so skilled and has been doing hair for decades, she knows what she is doing and never tries to overcharge for any service. Book an appointment with Luci if you want a quality haircut, and/or highlights. A last detail which I appreciate about Luci is that she will not chemically burn your hair or dry it out. Normally the uploaded photos (which look a whole lot like Jana B's review from 2018) would be enough explanation, but I have a bit of a story. Also, I got the service in 2018 as well, but just decided to write a review when I found the photo in my phone lol. After I made the appointment, the owner Luci texted me to discuss. I sent her a photo of my hair, the ends of which had been bleached and dyed red before, at that time now sort of a strawberry blonde color. I had asked to start the color farther down my hair than in the sample photo, and to add in a bit of am ombré effect. I know what I was asking for might have been difficult, but I would certainly have appreciated knowing exactly what was possible/could be done. Well in the end as you can see half my hair was black and the other half was bright red. There were obvious spots in the border where the dye was applied to each lock of hair. Plus, there were black patches in the middle of the red where the dye didn't reach. In the end I was pretty embarrassed and reached out to another Davis salon. They blended the transition between the black and red, and actually contacted Luci about the situation. She agreed to fix the black patches for free, which was really nice of her, so I can't give too low of a rating. I awkwardly returned, and another stylist in her salon did it. Another note is about the price. On the website I believe the starting price for my service was $120. After texting and sending Luci photos, she said it would be $150 (which I didn't question since my hair's long). In the end she charged me $189. For some reason I thought that the tip was included in that increased price so I didn't tip further, which in hindsight was probably not the case and pretty dumb of me. Some points outside of the hair service: The salon environment and location looked amazing. My hair smelled very fragrant for days after. Luci was a nice person. There's no dedicated parking (at least when I went) so you have to park on the side of the street. The location is near downtown so a lot of the parking is 2-hour; even the employees often have to relocate their cars which sucks. read more

Color Fail! I was a walk in client and requested rose gold hair when I walked out it was a mix of Ronald McDonald red and stop cone orange. Morgan showed me pictures of rose gold hair and stated she could do it that day. Then they bleached my hair and colored it they messed up and my hair was bright orange. Then the owner Lucy came out and told them to dye over it with pink to try to fix the huge mistake. Then it came out fire engine red mixed with the worst orange color possible. I paid over $300. I was told Morgan was a good stylist and specializes in these types of colors obviously not. I came in the next day and Morgan said she knew it was a mistake and would fix it. She also stated that they didn't have the right dye to do the color I wanted and mixed a dye that was obviously the wrong color. Then her aunt the owner proceeded to text me and said they could only do really dark colors like the brown hair I walked in with. I didn't feel comfortable at that point that they could actually fix my hair. I decided not to come back in. The owner text me if you would have gone to a high end salon and paid $600 you probably would have gotten what you asked for. If that's true, I believe they should tell their clients that your not capable of accomplishing what is expected. read more

Just asked Luci for a walk-in haircut. Amazingly she was able to fit me in despite the busy holiday weekend! I'm a 25 yo male with a preference for simple long hair and have always neglected maintaining mine because most salon and barber shops alike tend to cut too much off or try to style in ways I don't have time to replicate on a daily basis.
