You know the drill. Covid made me grow out my long black locks, but the summer heat made it unbearable, sweaty, and gross to look at oftentimes. I needed a change-- and a pick me up. After looking at the reviews and the prices on Yelp, I decided Refinery Salon would do the trick. I chose Mayra as my hair stylist/technician for the day. I booked her online for a 3 hour consultation + appointment, wanting a shoulder-length bob with the ends of my hair bleached (like a half-way mark all the way from my ears down). I had a hair inspo board saved on my phone, ready to share at a moments' notice. I was excited to share my desires with Mayra (super sweet upon introduction) and she was honest, "I can't do that". She explained the dye wouldn't apply evenly in a straight line like I envisioned. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't get the "hair of my dreams", but I understood that technically, it wasn't possible. But, she said, she could balayage my hair. She pulled out her pinterest board and showed me a couple of hair inspo pics of her own. "Oooo..." I cooed. I could get with that. Initially, my budget was $200 for the bleach and hair cut situation, but a balayage would put me a little over my initial budget. I appreciated the transparency in price on Mayra's end. She didn't pressure me, but I had room to splurge, so I agreed to a balayage and cut. I felt like a pampered little queen, though all Mayra did was bleach my hair and have a great conversation with me all throughout. Don't get me wrong-- I cannot replicate what Mayra did. She was worth all of the money I paid. Three hours later, my hair was styled and looking like a million bucks. I left feeling great and ready to take on the world with my new hair. Would definitely recommend Mayra! She was really mindful of bleaching my hair in ways that would allow for my roots to grow in naturally, so I wouldn't have to always touch up my roots (ya girl saved up, but not that much). Honestly, I wish Refinery Salon or Mayra had an Instagram account so I could tag them in the mini photoshoot I did afterwards, but Yelp will have to do. Side note: their Covid guidelines were great. Everyone was wearing their masks and socially distanced from other customers. It was always only me and another client in the salon, though the space could have fit more folks. I saw Clorox wipes and disinfectant lining the walls, which was just a nice touch. Their commitment to safety and maintaining professional excellence is admirable. read more

I am so happy with my haircut from Liz McManus! She gave me exactly the cut I was envisioning but somehow even better, and clearly took her time to do a great job without rushing anything. Side bonuses: really comfortable hairwash before the cut, complete with gentle scalp massage that almost put me to sleep; and super easy conversation (which, considering I'm a consummate introvert, says a lot about her ability to read the room). I had fantastic service with Mayra. I might have been a challenging customer because I was a little vague about what I wanted. She gave me good advice based on what I asked, and offered tips for how to style my newly curly/wavy hair. I really felt like she took time to get to know me a bit and listened to what I was trying to ask for. The only reason I'm giving less that 5 stars is because the other two stylists in the main room of the salon when I entered didn't say a thing, just let me and one other person wait until another stylist came out to see to us. We love this salon! After years of cutting my daughter's very thick hair at home, we decided to go to a professional. We normally book with Sam (who is awesome) but she was booked for months and recommended Liz (who my daughter liked right away). My daughter was feeling particularly chatty, asking a million questions and sharing random tidbits about her life. Not sure Liz needed to know what my daughter had for breakfast or how milk affects her tummy, but Liz knows it all now. Ha! My youngest had Amber cut off her waist length locks into a chic modern bob - a total transformation. I booked an appointment here because I could book online and they had great yelp reviews. I have curly hair and have had my fair share of bad haircuts so I am always super skeptical when I come to a new place for a haircut. I went in with two requests, my color to be darkened, and for my hair length to change as little as possible. My appointment was Ginger and she was super receptive to my requests and sensitive to my haircut anxiety. I was the only appointment at that time, so I waited for her to arrive to the salon before my appointment started. Once we were both settled, I told her what I wanted and she set off to work. I ultimately left with exactly what I had requested. My dark color has been restored, and I maintained my length while only giving a little trim to make sure it was healthier. It has taken me years to find a good stylist, but I finally found her. Amber is incredible. I have been to so many salons where people don't know what they're doing, push products on you and charge you an arm and a leg. Amber did none of that. She was on time, knowledgeable, listened to what I wanted and didn't push any products. I have had curly hair my whole life and have a curly routine I like. I despise when stylist push me to buy product and specifically from them in the salon. Also, the wash was super relaxing and the technician (didn't catch her name!) did a really nice job with the scalp massage. The experience was just what I was looking for and I've already recommended Amber to two friends. It's too bad she doesn't have more availability! Samantha cut my hair at the exact length I wanted (slightly below shoulder-length), but she was very rough when she washed my hair and combed it. I have an extremely sensitive scalp so the entire process was very painful. I have never had a painful haircut before. It felt almost as painful as getting my teeth cleaned at the dentist!
