Visited this cafe on the way back from a hike and we ordered 2 egg sandwiches (with spam) and an iced coffee. Came out perfect. Cozy/quiet little patio area in the back to relax. Definitely recommend to anyone passing through for a quick bite. read more

The food was yummy, ample, and reasonable priced! We enjoyed eating in the outdoor courtyard of the historic building. Note that the cold brew was very strong. Also, they still only take payment via cash or venmo as of today (12/21/2025), so be prepared. read more

Before we headed out to Akaka Falls Lookout, we went to Pomaika'i Cafe to eat. I looked at the menu and two words caught my eye... I saw the words Wagyu Burger and that's it. I knew what I was going to order... haha. I ordered the 8 oz. Wagyu Burger American Kobe Beef... Mmmm yummy. :) We all waited outside and sat at the back table. After the long wait, we took our food and drove to Akaka Falls Lookout. As we were heading there, I didn't want to eat my burger while we were driving so I waited til we arrived. When we reached our destination and parked, I ate the Wagyu Burger. Mmmm... so goood! The burger was juicy, it was filled with condiments that overflowed to the side onto the plate, and it tasted great! I was satisfied and ready to walk through the Akaka Falls Lookout! read more

I came here for lunch after hiking at Pololu Valley Lookout. There was a good amount of outdoor seating available. Everything on their menu sounded delicious, but we ended up ordering the very veggie sandwich and vegetarian stuffed ciabatta. I really liked the very veggie sandwich - the ingredients were super fresh, and the pesto added a nice touch to it. I also enjoyed the bread because it wasn't the super grainy and dry type you get when ordering wheat bread. The vegetarian ciabatta was good too - not as much of a fan of the olive spread as pesto, though. The bread was great, and I loved the generous amount of cheese. Stopped here for breakfast and some coffee before starting are all day trek around the island. The food was great! We got the bagel breakfast sandwich and the croissant breakfast sandwich and both were delicious, but the real winner was the cinnamon roll that was almost as big as the plate they served it on. Was picking up food at L&L otw to a beach and saw an espresso/deli coffee across! I read a review about coconut flavored coffee and headed my way over quickly before the food was done. Friendly staff and most importantly great taste to the food. I had ordered a salad and it was filling; where some places give you less than what you pay for. Not this place; it's affordable for a great portion. The melon drink was also very refreshing. Again very affordable and not like how other places overcharge. The melon wasn't empowering and wasn't powdery as I've had from other vendors as well. The pastries are fresh and are amazing as well. Definitely returning to this place! read more

Excellent service delicious food. The outdoor atmosphere is relaxing. Baked goods are fresh, the green salads are also fresh topped with a chunk of Salmon or a variety of choices. Perfect place to have business or family gatherings. This place reminds me of a Seattle or San Francisco modern lunch or Coffee style restaurant. read more

So glad I stopped here, instead of the restaurant where I was headed! Excellent club sandwich and bagel breakfast sandwich. Really good lilikoi iced tea! GF mochi bars - really good! Pineapple upside down cake squares - really good! Lemon bars - O M G. LOVE the crunchy texture with the tart filling! Fine and friendly counter service. Pleasant outdoor courtyard seating. Friendly service and excellent food in a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. The lox was delicious. I had a dirty chai-yummy. Daughter loved the blended white mocha. You will dream about the butter mochi and cinnamon rolls. Super clean with a lot of available comfortable seating. Even the bathroom was impressively clean. Me and two friends stopped in here and ordered a club sandwich, two turkey pepper paninis and a coffee. 42$ later we received the coffee and club sandwich which was fine but the 'paninis' we got were terrible. 1/10 rating. This Turkey Pepper panini is 12$. It wasn't a panini. It was cheap ciabatta that wasn't even toasted or flat like what defines a panini. Bread was stale, swamped in this watery red bell pepper sauce/liquid that completely drowned the sandwich like they were both dropped in puddles. It was so messy that we tossed the bread in the trash and ate what was left. Provolone and turkey was completely drowned out by this careless sandwich. The person working had no customer service, no smile, no aloha. Had vibes like we were burdening him coming in. Look, I'm from Big Island. Grew up in South Kona up Koa Road. I have worked years in food business in Hawaii and mainland. I understand it's expensive to maintain a storefront but this sandwich was a major rip off and I wish I just ate LNL across the street. Side salad was boring and wilted. Ate it due to hunger. Won't be back. read more

The Pomaika'i guys are nice and seem to really care. The food is grinds, especially the cinnamon rolls and the breakfast sandwiches! Coffee is great and the lanai out back is the best. Super chill slice of old Hawai'i most visitors will pass by without ever seeing. Highly recommended! read more

This sunscreen helped protect me from crazy sunburns. It is very thick and dries up quickly. It does leave you looking whiter than usual lol. 2) Smoothies - My ILs ordered the Hawaiian Superman, Strawberry Bliss, Chocolate Monkey, and Super Soursop. All these smoothies were recommended by the owner based on their preferences. They absolutely enjoyed their drinks. The food is absolutely delicious, fresh and authentic!!! When we arrived 25 minutes before closing, we were greeted warmly and there was just one sweet woman doing everything! We had a big order, but she started cooking and gave us our food as it came out. She insisted we just go eat and not worry about paying til later. ;) She was amazing to watch, as it feels like watching mama cooking in the kitchen at home. Probably the best Pad Thai I have ever had and the summer rolls were so fresh and soooo yummy that I ordered 2 more rolls to take home after scarfing the first one! I also bought the last 2 two packages of her homemade almond cookies. Can't wait to try them! As we were leaving she handed me a big bag of fresh lychee fruit, and said, "Share with your family." So sweet!!!! I can't highly recommend this place for a wonderful, quick, super fresh and tasty meal cooked by the sweetest woman! Definitely will be back again when we visit. The plaza itself has plenty of parking even when it's on the busier side on a weekend morning, so it's not hard to find a spot. The interior is bright and welcoming with a minimalist vibe, and even when we visited on a weekend morning, it was easy to find seating either indoors or outdoors. Service was wonderful -- we were helped promptly by staff, and my drink came out quickly. I got the black sesame latte with a chocolate chip cookie. I thought my drink was perfect, as the flavor of the black sesame was nutty, pleasant, and just the right amount of sweetness paired with the espresso. The cookie was on the softer/puffier side, and although it's not my preferred texture, it wasn't too bad! To sum up, I really enjoyed dropping by to get coffee here, and I feel like the quality of the drinks at Surf Camp is consistent across their different locations. I'll definitely come back if I ever find myself on Big Island for another trip!

There's both indoor and outdoor seating, which wasn't super crowded on a Saturday brunch time. I got the cucumber bagel and black sesame latte. I loved the crunchiness of the cucumbers and you can tell they care about the quality of their ingredients. The ricotta was the perfect touch and brought everything together for a simple and filling breakfast. I love black sesame, so it was such a nice surprise to see they had a latte on the menu. I liked the nuttiness of the sesame, but the coffee was more on the bitter side. Such a cute shop that is the perfect addition to Waimea town. I would definitely recommend coming here for food and to check out the shop!
