We stopped by and grabbed two smoothies. I ordered a green smoothie, and it was really delicious: not too sweet, perfectly balanced, and honestly exactly what I needed. The place itself looked nice, but since we only picked up drinks, it felt more like a quick grab-and-go spot. In Hawaii, smoothies are kind of a must, and this is definitely one of the places you can stop by if you're in the area. We didn't explore many other smoothie spots, so I can't really compare, but this one did the job well. P.S. I noticed they offer one of my favorite drinks, a cortado, with different styles and flavor options, not just the basic version. We came in on a Monday afternoon with the sole purpose of finding and ordering ice cream. There are a few patrons, but it was relatively slow. They had a little bit of outdoor seating and the inside had a bunch of different locally made products you could buy in addition to food and/or coffee. We stopped here for some ice cream and a coffee. I had a mud in a cone and it was so good. I also ordered a cold brew (they forgot the cream but wasn't an issue for me). The coffee was still amazing and hit the spot the cream didn't. If I lived here, this place would be a regular stop for me. read more

Located on the Main Street in Kapa`au you'll find street parking as well as a gravel parking lot two doors down. They serve tasty pastries, ice cream and a variety of coffee drinks. You'll also be able to purchase merch and coffee beans to go. Large front lanai with 6 tables to grab a bite, service was efficient when ordering lunch. Driving through and grabbed a BLT, MOA and burrito sandwiches. BLT came with tortilla chips while the MOA with potato salad. The burrito was more like a panini. All were fairly tasty with compliments especially on the MOA. BLT had cheese in it, and burrito a bit of a kick. Highlight was the lavender iced tea which all were very happy with. Service was good and ate outside at the limited number of tables. NB. They close at 2pm and can get quite busy. read more

One of our favorite places to visit when we're in Hawi. The chai with mac nut milk and a dusting of cinnamon is great. My partner loves their cortado. Their baked goods are always fresh and tasty. Their lunches are good too. And they have a selection of island made ice cream and gelato. You can get it way cheaper and with far less misgendering than across the street. Came across this scrumptious gem as we drove north for the day. It caught our eye when we heard a musician sitting outside. The casual vibe seemed perfect to rest and catch a bite at. Disappointing. Their coffee is great, I'll give them that. However, we had to wait 1 hour for 3 sandwiches and they even forgot to call us, so our food - average at best - sat for a while and came barely warm. We ordered before 12p. Don't even bother going. It's a scam. read more

This is a wonderful place to get good coffee, breakfast food, and meet locals, as they really do gather here very frequently. We went the first time on a Sunday, as I was in need of some good coffee that they could grind for me as we were housesitting for people who had a sub-par grinder. They were so very helpful and guided me to their Puna Punch bean, which was the light roast I wanted. They then grinded it for me for the moka pot. I also got a Salted Caramel Cortado, and a Lox Bagel. Both were delicious...especially all the parts of the bagel...capers, onions, tomatoes, cream cheese, and good lox. Hubby got one too with his cappuccino. We came back the following Saturday fairly early so we could park in Hawi and sit at the coffee mill to watch the Ironman bicycle leg, as Hawi was the turnaround point. It was amazing to be there with all the locals and all the women flying through (it's grown so big, this is the first year they split the field & it was women only in the Kona event). All the local youth had tables out for the feed zone and got the chance to hand water bottles etc. to the elite athletes. Excellent experience and all right there at the Coffee Mill. By the way, a week later I ran out of coffee, but we were in Waimea so went to their sister (mother?)-store Waimea Coffee to get the Puna Punch beans and they were just as friendly. Every time I go to the big island I always come to this adorable coffee shop! Pre-pandemic, they used to have a lot of retail, as well as whole beans by the half pound as well as pound. Perhaps due to the pandemic, they stopped caring so many extra things yet everything here is delicious and fresh tasting! When we were standing near the back wall looking at the coffee, one of the ladies seemed didn't care and left us alone. Service is great, and their drinks are delicious (especially the smoothies, I recommend the Blue Hawaiian) but the food could be better. I tried their breakfast bagel and burrito, both had egg in them, but was surprised to find it was a solid, square block instead of something scrambled or fried...tasted fine, but a bit disappointing nonetheless. This is one of my favorite spots on the island, it's such a shame that I don't find myself in the north side very often but when I do, I will for sure come by grab this açai bowl. Do not under estimate the ugly and non artistic picture I've taken on the affogato. The espresso was wicked good. Strong and flavorful. The coconut ice cream (you picked your own choice) was richly flavor. The espresso shot was not much. I prefer a little but more but the flavor worked perfectly together. It's not on the menu, just ask them. I was gonna make my own and they knew what it was and got it for me. Due to the strong flavor, those who may not like coffee too strong can try latte. The cappuccino was too strong. I think the latte is better with more milk. read more

Great little place on the north shore of the big island. We stopped for ice cream, and got chai lattes too. The staff was friendly and service was quick with a smile. The seating area outside was clean with enough shade for everyone to get out of the tropic sun. And then there is the ice cream. So creamy and smooth. I would drive there just for a scoop. I had never had a chai latte before. This place ruined them for me. This drink is so good. I've tried a couple since and none have reached the pinnacle of smoothness and flavor of Kohala Coffee Mill. What a cute little spot in the middle of nowhere (well technically in the town of Hawi, which is in the middle of nowhere)! We stopped by for breakfast after watching the sunrise at Pololu Valley Lookout. We tried their On the Works Bagel, Egg n Cheese Bagel and Lattes. We also tried their chocolate macadamia nut cookie.
