Inside the shop there is a counter and some space for seating with addition tables outside.

After a long hike in Waipio Valley or even if you just go to the lookout, make sure to head on over to the Historic Honokaa Town and get a lovely dessert or drink at King's Treats! The couple that runs the store are very friendly and quite lovely. Apparently, while the physical store is quite new, they have been running a stand and truck by thr lookout point for years so they are experts is shave ice and other tasty snacks. This was my favorite shave ice place on the east side of the island and I made sure to go back twice with my family. Highly recommend making sure to stop by here if anyone gets a chance.

We stopped here after a hike down to the Waipi'o valley and the shave ice from here was the perfect way to cool off and treat ourselves. This is way better than any snow cone I've had on the mainland. We'd recommend getting the medium size and splitting. Also add the ice cream, it's worth it.

Amazing stop. I think it's the best shaved ice on the island and a very warm and welcoming staff. Must try!

I like the bakery items on display as you first come in, very easy to spot enticing goodies. The coffee was GREAT! I loved the local art, especially the big paintings of jellyfish. I wish I had taken a picture to share here! I had a Nutty Chicken Salad, and I had more food than I could finish. I bought a slice of pumpkin bread to bring home to my hubby. I live in Kailua-Kona, and I will be very happy to take the nice drive up and have lunch here again.

First of all, although Yelp has separate listings, this is the same business as Hamakua Fudge Shop…read more I stopped in based on the generally enthusiastic reviews about the fudge, both here and on other sites. Though it hadn't been my original plan, I ended up getting lunch here, since most other nearby restaurants were closed. This involved a bit of a wait, as when I first arrived the high school kid at the counter said he couldn't make sandwiches, but the owner would likely be in soon -- though he also said she was inconsistent and he couldn't say for sure when. Happily, she was there when I stopped back half an hour later, having confirmed that the only other available lunch options were a food truck whose fare didn't much fit my mood or takeout from the local market. I ordered a turkey sandwich on whole wheat and iced coffee. The coffee was good. The sandwich was barely okay. It was billed as coming with cranberry mayonnaise, and while the mayo had a bit of sweetness, cranberry flavor was not readily apparent. The turkey was weirdly dry and crumbly and the bread was beginning to get stale. All it all it was edible, but that's about it. It came with a small banana, which was a nicer and healthier touch than the chips or pickles you so often get with sandwiches. As I sat there eating, I noticed a sign on the bulletin board, apparently left over from the days when Hawaii had a COVID-19 mask mandate for indoor establishments. The sign used fake language from HIPAA (misspelled as HIPPA -- a dead giveaway) to say, essentially, that they'd just pretend anyone not wearing a mask had a medical reason to not wear one and ignore the public health rule. Why they felt compelled to announce they don't give a bleep about public health a year after any such mandates ended I can't say, but I'm suffering debilitating "Long COVID" symptoms because of the recklessness of idiots like this. So I didn't buy any fudge, tempting as it looked, and instead satisfied my sweet tooth at another business.

As a disclaimer, I'm not the biggest fan of shaved ice because of how sweet the dessert tends to be, and because more often than not, there are a bunch of artificial colors used in the fruit juices. When we looked at the menu, I was impressed and excited to see the emphasis on quality of their ingredients: no artificial flavors or colors, no aspartame, no high fructose corn syrup, and no preservatives. I was sold. Although we were tempted to create our own shaved ice, we ultimately went with "The Local", a soursop and liliko'i combo topped with haupia cream. Between the two flavors, I enjoyed the sour sop side a bit more since it was the one that was less sweet. The cream on top was absolutely delicious, and reminded me of the light and airy frothed milk cream you find on many boba drinks these days. There's a generous amount ladled on top, ensuring you can have some in every bite without having to carefully ration out the cream. Overall, I'm a fan of Kula Shave Ice. Definitely a great dessert to enjoy on a hot day. Worth checking out if you're ever in Hilo.

I was a little disappointed that there weren't many flavor options, but I did appreciate the portion sizes--and they do have condensed milk, which is always a plus. I ordered coconut and strawberry, and my sister went with strawberry. The presentation was beautiful, but I noticed the syrup was very light. I think I'm used to the thicker, sweeter syrups some places use, which makes the flavors more vibrant. This felt more like a lighter, juice-style shaved ice. That's not a bad thing at all--it just wasn't what I was craving, and it didn't quite hit the spot for either of us. That said, this review isn't meant to knock the business at all. I definitely recommend trying it for yourself and ordering what you like. I may have ordered the wrong flavors and probably should've gone with one of their specials (the lava flow sounds like the move). The staff was fantastic, the location was extremely clean, and they even have a small shop, which was a nice touch. Overall, it was a good experience--just not quite my personal preference flavor-wise. I wish this business nothing but continued success

That being said, I didn't realize until I got to Courtyard King Kamehameha (where I was staying) that it was actually inside the hotel. It's open to the public, but if you're staying there like my husband and I were, it's super convenient. We ended up going almost every day during our stay. One shave ice was usually enough for us to share, especially after adding ice cream and/or snow cap. A combo we particularly liked was guava, lilikoi, and blue Hawaii with snow cap and macadamia nut ice cream. (We would've liked to add mochi too, but they ran out.) It's a small place, but when it wasn't too busy and it was too hot to sit outside, we enjoyed sitting at the bar stools facing-ish the pool area. There was lots of natural light coming in through the big windows, which made it a nice place to sit for a spell. The staff were friendly and especially patient when it got busy or loud. I imagine they're used to hotel guests and families coming through at all times of day. tl;dr: this Ululani is a solid choice for shave ice and a in super convenient location, especially if you're staying at the hotel.
