First of all, although Yelp has separate listings, this is the same business as Hamakua Fudge Shop. I stopped in based on the generally enthusiastic reviews about the fudge, both here and on other sites. Though it hadn't been my original plan, I ended up getting lunch here, since most other nearby restaurants were closed. This involved a bit of a wait, as when I first arrived the high school kid at the counter said he couldn't make sandwiches, but the owner would likely be in soon -- though he also said she was inconsistent and he couldn't say for sure when. Happily, she was there when I stopped back half an hour later, having confirmed that the only other available lunch options were a food truck whose fare didn't much fit my mood or takeout from the local market. I ordered a turkey sandwich on whole wheat and iced coffee. The coffee was good. The sandwich was barely okay. It was billed as coming with cranberry mayonnaise, and while the mayo had a bit of sweetness, cranberry flavor was not readily apparent. The turkey was weirdly dry and crumbly and the bread was beginning to get stale. All it all it was edible, but that's about it. It came with a small banana, which was a nicer and healthier touch than the chips or pickles you so often get with sandwiches. As I sat there eating, I noticed a sign on the bulletin board, apparently left over from the days when Hawaii had a COVID-19 mask mandate for indoor establishments. The sign used fake language from HIPAA (misspelled as HIPPA -- a dead giveaway) to say, essentially, that they'd just pretend anyone not wearing a mask had a medical reason to not wear one and ignore the public health rule. Why they felt compelled to announce they don't give a bleep about public health a year after any such mandates ended I can't say, but I'm suffering debilitating "Long COVID" symptoms because of the recklessness of idiots like this. So I didn't buy any fudge, tempting as it looked, and instead satisfied my sweet tooth at another business. read more

Nice little cafe! I got an Americano with oat milk for hubby, a latte with oat milk for myself, and fudge sample pack to go... I enjoyed every drop of my latte thank you very much! The proprietor is very genial and the interior decorations are worth looking at. There's a nice selection of snacks, especially fudge of course, and a selection of sandwiches, all reasonably priced by Big Island standards. Since I live in the neighborhood, I've tried various items, like lilikoi cheesecake, affogato, and hot fudge sundae, so chances are you'll find a snack that suits you. read more

Cute little place in the small town of Honokaa. We had been to the horseback riding tour near this place. It was very hot when we were driving back and we came across this place that was serving ice cream. We decided to try an ice cream and a shaved ice. Both were really good and helped us cool down! I like the bakery items on display as you first come in, very easy to spot enticing goodies. The coffee was GREAT! I loved the local art, especially the big paintings of jellyfish. I wish I had taken a picture to share here! I had a Nutty Chicken Salad, and I had more food than I could finish. I bought a slice of pumpkin bread to bring home to my hubby. I live in Kailua-Kona, and I will be very happy to take the nice drive up and have lunch here again. read more

Well I dont know why there's so much trouble with this place? I admit the prices kind of scared me at first before I realized that everything is locally grown and bought and they're even ocean certified (Im thinking that means none of the plastic goes into the ocean!) The decor and ambiance of the place is really neat because the owners even expanded into the other side of the wall. It's a pretty open space and it's fun to watch the girls make the food. I ordered a small chai latte and 'The Moo' and both came out a little bit later than I thought it would, but it's really only because they were super busy and had 2 people working. I was unable to use the restroom due to the fact that you'd have to walk straight through the kitchen to get to it so it's unavailable to the public, which is totally understandable. Overall, I loved this place! Nini was talkative and casual the moment the bustle died down which is a nice change from the almost forced 'aloha' feeling the resorts give you. Once again, I don't see the problem as it is a completely different ball park over here and I would definitely recommend it to anyone and everything. We came in right before closing, so we made sure to hurry and grab what we wanted. The woman who helped us wasn't too friendly but it's a small town and it won't be all smiles all the time. No explanations of the fudge. We got the feature of the day, which I had to ask and got a short answer, banana. We also got chocolate coconut Fudge and the mango haupia. I saw the lilikoi cheesecake and figured might as well try it. The woman asked if we wanted it for here or to go, but since they closed at 4, I figured it would be best to get it to go. We made our purchase and left. Stepped outside and took one bite of the cheesecake, the syrup and lilikoi on the cheesecake base was pretty good, but we could have gone without the syrup. Now for the fudge, the chocolate coconut was the only one I could enjoy a bite from due to the fact both flavors could be distinguished. The banana was the worst, it was stale and the banana wasn't present. The mango was present but the haupia not so much. Overall, I wasn't a fan. I gave it 2 stars for the other 2 workers I saw talking to and helping the other customers. The other star for the potential for the cheesecake. read more

The place we wanted to go was closed so this was the only option for lunch, and we were starving so we did not look further. We had sandwiches which were not great especially considering the price ($10.50 for tuna salad, close to $12 for ham). They weren't bad but just your below average sandwich. Also they bring you chips bags with them but you can't pick and the woman wasn't happy when my son asked her to swap because he did not like spicy ones. We did not try the ice cream or baked goods as the sandwiches experience did not give us any reason to try anything else. I hate to give this place such a low score because it was a life saver but compared to the food we were expecting at the nearby place it was a bit of a downer. read more

This place has ice cream that is just ok. The Shave Ice is terrible. It is on a par with an amusement park snow cone, nowhere near acceptable for Hawaiian Shave Ice. Service was not friendly. read more

Tourists obviously very big part of business but you can tell they are burnt out with tourists. Asked where a bathroom was and she sent me down the road to the local grocery store who guess what do not have a public restroom. It felt like a locals joke on tourists. I hope this does not represent everywhere. read more

Came in to this business with high hopes of buying delicious fudge! I bought a variation of flavors and were looking for alternative to chocolate fudge which they were out of... We were sold vanilla chocolate swirl and bought three packages of that particular and three other flavors. We tried it and thought it tasted a little off but wasn't sure what It was. Later that night when stomach issues developed I made a phone call to the café and informed it was reduced sugar substitute. Never going back to this business again as we should been told it was sugar substitute. Other flavors were fair to good. read more
