I'm honestly pretty disappointed with my experience so far. I just joined less than a month ago and…read morealready feel like canceling my membership. First, they want to charge me for two late cancellations, when I only late canceled one class. I reached out to let them know there was a mistake, but because they take up to 48 hours to reply, my account was frozen in the meantime. That means I can't attend the classes I had already scheduled for today and tomorrow. Freezing someone's account before even responding or confirming the issue feels really extreme, especially for a new member. Now I'm paying the same amount and can't even take classes until someone gets back to me??! The other issue happened during a Thursday night class with a new instructor. We were told to arrive 10 minutes early, so most of us were there around 6:50 pm for a 7:00 class. When a girl (who told me it was her first class) politely peeked in to ask if we could come inside since it was already 6:57 pm the man at the front desk snapped "one second" at her in a really harsh way. It was honestly embarrassing for her and uncomfortable to watch. Her face turned red with embarrassment. Once we got inside, the instructor herself was actually very sweet and did a great job, especially considering it was her first time teaching. But the class started rushed because we had to quickly set up, and the Bluetooth wouldn't connect so the music had to play from her phone. Again, not the instructor's fault at all, but it made the experience feel a little disorganized. I understand studios have growing pains and new instructors need time to adjust. That part didn't bother me as much as the customer service side of things, and having my account frozen before anyone responds, and seeing a first-time client spoken to harshly doesn't create the most welcoming environment. I really wanted to love this place, but as a new member this experience hasn't felt very supportive so far. If things improve I'll change my review but so far I think this is a fair assessment.

I don't recommend coming here if you want quality instruction with experienced teachers, or if…read moreyou're brand new to Pilates. If you already know what you're doing and just want to get sore and sweaty, then I guess it's fine! Here's a more detailed break down: 1) There are 12 reformers in the class which makes it difficult for the teacher to see what each student is doing. 2) On top of that, the teachers don't provide very much instruction about how to do the movements correctly and safely. Numerous times I saw other students struggling because the springs were too heavy or they didn't understand the mechanics of the exercise. Did the teacher intervene? Nope! That can lead to injury! 3) I'm not even sure how or where the instructors were trained. Are they certified? Did they just do 50 or so hours of in-studio training? Did they study in a two year program at an accredited college? Some positives are that the teachers are friendly, they'll help you if you speak up, there are a lot of classes on the schedule, and the price point is good. I'm not trying to be mean to the studio, but Pilates can be amazing if done correctly, and dangerous if done incorrectly. I should've educated myself better about these things beforehand, so just I'm giving y'all a heads up so you can decide what meets your needs.

I have a chronic lower back condition and was suffering a major flare-up when I signed up for private training with Maggie a few months ago. Maggie is so patient and flexible; relentlessly pivoting, adjusting, and changing up her carefully planned custom to me program on the spot whenever I'd comment that my back was protesting. She is 100% in tune in every minute of our sessions. She is also extremely knowledgeable with weight lifting, Pilates, nutrition, and just a trove of wisdom, experience, and kindness. I feel less and less discomfort in my day to day as I get stronger, all thanks to Maggie. I've trained with several trainers in my life; varying from awesome in their own right to so-so but with even the better gyms there was always a little bit of pushing myself to go. However, I can honestly say that training with Maggie is one of the better part of my days and I genuinely look forward to it. It's just so easy to show up to her beautiful, warm studio and have a fun, productive, kick-ass workout. Finally, the perfect cherry on top, she offers super reasonable pricing. Everyone reading this, go see Maggie. If she doesn't get back to you right away it's because she's training someone. Follow up and schedule something. Maggie deserves all the clients and success, you will get back tenfold training with her!

The workouts themselves are challenging, effective, and something I genuinely enjoyed. After that, I signed up and eventually started attending classes on my own. As someone who was still new to barre, it took a lot of courage to go alone. Unfortunately, during two separate classes with two different instructors, I struggled to keep up. The instructors did help and reposition me, which I appreciated, but I continued to struggle, and in one of the classes, the instructor laughed, which made me feel self-conscious and discouraged as a beginner. While I understand classes can be lighthearted, in that moment it felt uncomfortable rather than supportive. After experiencing something similar again with a different instructor, it became discouraging and made me feel like this might continue happening. What ultimately led me to explore other options wasn't the workout itself, but the feeling of being judged during class. Fitness environments should feel encouraging, especially for people who are new or still building confidence. I did have a positive experience with one instructor who was very helpful, but she primarily taught Define or Empower classes, which felt too advanced for me compared to Classic, since I was still new to barre. Because of these experiences, I decided to try another studio where I felt more comfortable and eventually canceled my membership here.

Did you know that California has an official state dance? Well, we do and it is called West Coast Swing. Once a month there is a West Coast Sing Dance held here at this studio which has a fabulous dance floor. Ask about weekly lessons as I saw signs that indicated they had them. The dance floor here is beautiful and dances well. There were couches and chairs enough for most people to sit when they were't dancing. The restroom was tiny and reached through a narrow twisting hallway all the way in the back but was immaculately clean. The entire front wall of the space is floor to ceiling windows giving people on the street a great view of what is going on inside. I know from the name that there are yoga classes here. There was also a sign on the back wall that indicated that classes were held in a room upstairs by Pole~licious, a Platinum Stages sponsored pole fitness studio. For those who don't know - Platinum Stages are one of the top quality manufacturers of pole dancing poles and supplies in the world. My pole dancing studio back in Bakersfield, Polga Fitness, uses 15 foot spinning poles manufactured by Platinum Stages. We're talking the best, folks! There's a little something for everyone here at Peoples Yoga, Health & Dance whether you're trying to keep your mind, body, or spirit in the best shape. Come on down and check it out!
