**DISCLAIMER** Based on the photos and experiences I've seen of other customers, it seems like I must have caught Polombia on an off day. I swung by during lunch to check out a few of the eating options in the area. I ordered the beef emperogis. The food ended up taking around 30 minutes to be ready -- enough time that I had to ask the person behind to counter to make my order a to-go one instead of a "stay" meal. Would have made sense if they were super busy, but during the entire wait, I didn't see anyone else make an order. Sucked, but all good, I'm a taste guy. Couple things to point out, while I watched them prepare my meal: - The frying pan they used to fry the Emperogis at the end was completely covered with burnt debris, an indicator of a chef who didn't really know how to work the pan and keep things non-stick. -The other guy cutting meat was cutting the meat at college frat-boy that never cooked a meal in his life speeds. This all wouldn't have mattered, if this wasn't some of the straight up worst food I've ever been served. The Emperogi's were SOAKING wet -- I'm assuming they do some sort pot sticker cooking method to get the boiled texture of a perogi, and fried texture of the empanada, but this thing was like wet paper, and SOAKED with grease. There were mad holes in each Emperogi, probably where the food stuck to the pan and ripped as the guy responsible for cooking them moved things around. Also, a ton of black burnt shit around the Emperogi -- would not have been a big deal if shit wasn't so goddamn soaked in oil and water. The insides weren't any better. There were no "Potatoes, caramelized onions" in sight. In the picture I've attached, I barely touched the Perogi but it opened up like you're seeing, and I didn't touch any of the other ones -- they just had holes in them. The meat itself (I tried one cube that I threw out after biting into it) tasted dry and funky(3 day+ leftovers). The sauce it came with tasted good. I threw out the food as soon as I took the picture. If I wasn't running late, I would have gone back and asked for a refund. Just a bizarre experience, and don't really understand what those dudes behind the counter were doing in the 30 minutes it took to get our food. read more

If you want an amazing spin on two cuisines-- you have to check out Polombia! If it is any restaurant that deserves recognition during the pandemic, it is this one! La Zapiekanka (pictured below, as well as others they offer) will always be #1 in my heart, but the other dishes are slowly creeping up to be some of my number-one favorites! The flavor profile is not one like you have seen nor tasted before. Hands down, Phil and Cynthia are the most hospitable restauranteurs that I have met. Arepa-ski - 5/5. Chicken and lentil both delicious options. Chicken has a wonderful roasted flavor. Lentils also worked well. The sauce has a fun kick. Kielbasa Perro - 4.5/5. Works well. Tasty sausage, dressing has a good touch. Only OK for me but my wife loved it. Emparogi with Short Rib - 3/5. Good flavors but it was a little overly greasy. Kolaczki - 2/5. Only got to try a couple but really didn't like one that had rose water flavor that thought the chocolate filled one was decent. read more

Tried a few things from different restaurants at Time Out Market. We order the mixed Arepa-skis (one chicken, one short rib) from Polombia. Definitely was surprised/disappointed by the size of them. They did taste well made. The mix of flavors were good, but the size and price would deter me from ordering them again. read more

Ordered takeout from this place as I was intrigued by the cuisine. Needless to say it lived up to its name with its unique menu. Food (8/10): As a newbie I ordered the popular dishes. Kielbasa perro - polish dog with a fusion flare. Call me out if you want, but I'm "one of those" when it comes to hot dogs that no matter how much you try to elevate it - it's a hot dog. Or in this case a polish dog. Don't get me wrong. This is a very good polish dog. Anyone from Berkeley, CA will get my reference that Top Dog is great - but it's still a hot dog. For me, the other dishes are what makes this place more interesting to me. Sal chi papa - ngl I ordered from my phone so couldn't tell exactly what this dish entailed. I only saw it was super popular. I thought it was gonna be all potatoes but was pleasantly surprised it had sausages too. It's sometimes a game when eating this bc you'll think you got a sausage but it's a potato. Nevertheless this dish was unique to me and the sauces were what made the dish. After all, it's sausage and potatoes. Would order again. Beef emparogis - excuse my lack of culture but my first bite, first impression of the filling, was spaghetti and meatballs with marinara. After trying this for yourself you'll see I'm not crazy. Intriguing at first for me but it grew on me and I pounded through this dish. Value (6/10): objectively speaking not very value. I only have to mention this bc it's part of my evaluation as someone who's still a student. This place is one of those places though that has justified its prices with its quality and uniqueness of food. The experience you get for at least a first timer is worth the price for sure. I also want to mention the personable touches the restaurant put with the messages written on all the Togo boxes. Just when it seemed the food trend of fusion had run its course, you find Polombia. The idea of mixing two counties' food or doing the one country's food in the style of any country is not a new idea, but this restaurant's is breathing fresh air into the genre. They have two cuisines, Columbian and Polish, that I would not think you could combine to come up with such delicious food. However, Polombia delivers. Aside from the pure creativity, their food is very good. When I went, I ordered Arepas, the La Zapiekanka, Kielbasa Perro and two Kolaches. While all the food tasted good, my favorite was the Kielbasa Perro and the La Zapiekanka. The sausage on the Kielbasa Perro was cooked to perfection, the bun was soft and the pickles provided a nice Britney crunch. I liked the La Zapiekanka so much because the chicken when went well with all of the toppings and the nicely toasted bread. It's also a mush stop for their Kolaches, a collab with Howdy Kolache. I also liked that they feature sodas and juices from both Colombia and Poland. While the ones I tied where a bit sweet for my taste, it was nice to have access to try drinks from around the world that might the hard to find. The atmosphere was amazing. It's inside Time Out Chicago market and the quick and fun food fits right it the food hall atmosphere. If you are the West Loop/Fulton Market area, this is a use stop. read more

I made reservations for two on Sunday based on a quick word of mouth recommendation. We were a little late due to the fact that we couldn't find Polombia only to call and find out that is was actually a "pop up " inside the Outpost. Once arriving we were greeted and seated. The menu was limited but came with photos to get a better idea of the food being served. To eat and to share, we had ordered the beef emparogi, la zapiekanka, and the kielbasa perro. To drink, we had ordered the colombiana soda and the topo chico. The beverages (each $3) were a great choice in bringing authenticity to the cultures and fair priced. Beef emparogi ($13)- a very original food idea that I've never even considered of imagining to eat before but happy that was able to try it. It was personally my favorite item and what my taste buds were craving when thinking of a polish/colombian food. My significant other thought it was good but still missing some kind of flavor for his taste buds. For 5 emparogi we think the price is just a bit too high, sure you can't really find a pierogi/empanadas mix anywhere else but compared to a single empanada price($2-3)where it's more filling than a single emparogi($2.60) our choice would be the empanada. La zapiekanka ($11)- the baguette was perfectly toasted and the toppings were fresh but in both of our opinions lacking flavor especially the Sofrito( tomato,garlic and onion) we definitely tasted a lot of tomatoes but no garlic- it's like the tomatoes overwhelmed the whole sandwich. The meat was good. I also enjoyed the layering of the baguette, then the cheese, followed by the remainder of toppings. In simple terms we felt this food item was just bread and tomato paste and wouldn't reorder again. A decent price considering the sizing of the baguette but we wouldn't come to eat here because of this menu item. Kielbasa perro ($12)- We both enjoyed the toppings of Muenster, kettle chips, house pickles, and the tomato aioli, but not the pineapple glaze( significant other doesn't count cause he naturally doesn't like pineapple, but in my opinion I felt like the pineapple glaze could have potential if made more like a purée vs just what I felt like were smashed canned pineapples.) The kielbasa was good quality meat but wasn't as crispy or juicy in liking. This definitely felt like a hipster hotdog not a Chicago hotdog nor any kind of authentic polish/Colombian hot dog and the HIGH price definitely matches our nickname of hipster hotdog. We understand that this is an extremely small business and they're still working out the knicks of it all so we wish them the best because we do believe they have potential -especially with how very kind and welcoming they are! I would love to see Polombia as a food truck not so much as a hard to find "pop up" serving polish/colombian food in the irony of a small Mexican restaurant. read more

Polish girl seeking comfort food but also very intrigued by this eclectic combo=going out of my way to stop by on a random Thursday night. First off, Time Market is a wonderful vibe. Gives you that big city food hall feel and the aesthetic is wonderful. Even if you don't want polish Colombian fusion food (which you should!), there are plenty of other options and a bar. As for Polombia itself, the guy I ordered from was great. Super friendly. Food wise: the emparogi were decent. They weren't my favorite item, other than the shape of them they didn't really scream pierogi to me. 90% empanada, 10% pierogi. Wish the filling was a bit more nuanced and combined elements of polish and Colombian. Also would have loved a little more of that sauce because it was delicious! Presentation was nice though. The crown element was the zapiekanka. I've had my fair share of them in Poland and they're my comfort food. Obviously this one isn't quite the same as those, but it gave me similar levels of happiness. Plus the flavors were so good! Sweet and savory on a crisp bread. Get the zapiekanka, it's a good option to share with a friend since it's a large sized portion. Not entirely sure if I'll go out of my way again to eat here BUT if I'm at time out market again in the future by chance, I'll likely try to convince a friend to share a zapiekanka with me! read more

Such a unique restaurant concept featuring the respective backgrounds of the husband and wife duo that run this. We were sad they ran out emparogis when we stopped by, but enjoyed the zapiekanka (toasted baguette with all the fixings, the owner recommended Polish ham for protein choice) and the salchipapa (twist on popular Colombian street food of fried potatoes and sausage). It seemed to be more potato than short rib. They were more like mini empanadas- the size of potstickers. I'd be willing to try something different on the menu; I love the concept. I wanted to get lunch on the way from Midway to O'Hare and this fusion concept caught my eye. I got the Zapiekanka with mojo chicken. I don't know what the original dishes are that it's a mash-up of, but the result is essentially a version of French bread pizza. I was a bit underwhelmed as I was expecting some bolder flavors on this, but I may have just had an off expectation since other than the aioli the components don't necessarily indicate it would pack a punch. A bit on the pricier side but reasonable for lunch. I thought about the arepaski or emparogis but they seemed too expensive for the quantity. We love a good food hall! With some many great yelp reviews, we knew we had to try it! So we sat at a table and ordered through their website. The site quoted us 20 minutes, but it took over 40 minutes. After 40 minutes we got up to check which is when we realized the food had clearly been waiting. I'm vegetarian so I ordered the vegetarian Emparogis, which turned out to be just sweet potato pierogies with a cilantro sauce. Polombia successfully fuses Colombian spice with traditional Polish dishes. I highly recommend the Kielbasa Perro and the La Zapiekanka. We also devoured the Sal-CHI-Papa, Emparogis and Arepa-Ski with Mojo Roasted Chicken. Aside from the all the wonderful flavors and dishes, the owners are truly the most passionate and warm individuals in the restaurant industry. They were kind to include a complimentary desert (Kolackzi - which ps, the cookie will literally melt in your mouth) along with two traditional Polish candies in our order. The biggest surprise, however, was when they accidentally forgot to put one the items we ordered in our to-go bag. New BYOB spot specializing in great food made by great people! Stopped by this past Sunday with my partner and my dad. The food was amazing! The Arepa-SKIs were my favorite. The coffee rubbed short rib is top 2 and it's NOT #2. HINT: get your arepa FRIED. The the cabbage, beet, carrot slaw will brighten up your palate and provide balance with the cornmeal. If you need help shaking off the winter blues, get the Kielbasa Perro. It'll make you feel like you're walking around at the Taste (pre-2010 lol). Not overly greasy or heavy yet filling. Cap off the evening with guava and pineapple kolaczki to get your sweet tooth together. Planning our return trip so we can try the La Zapiekanka and actually take pictures. Polombia, a Colombian-Polish fusion restaurant, is by far, the best fusion place I have been to in Chicago. The beef and chicken in the Arepa-ski were perfectly seasoned and the arepa was prepared with a slight crunch on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. The La Zapiekanka was so good! It was much bigger portions than I expected, and so filling! It has aioli drizzled on top, with a tasty pineapple glaze, giving it the right amount of savory and sweetness. The baguette was perfectly toasted, with a slight crunch. The Sal-Chi-Papa, a take on traditional Colombian Street food, was the best of the three. The potatoes were seasoned exquisitely and the sausage was so flavorful. The owners are so friendly, and very dedicated to their business and to their customers. The emparogi are great for a light snack. At $15 though, they are not even half of a full meal. I'm not sure what full grown adult would be full after 5 small pirogi. They need to add something else to this meal to make it a real meal.
