Uncomfortable, cramped seating options that are too close to neighbors unless you're in a large group. Nowhere sensible to wait when you are on the list for a table. Unclear weekend hours-- are they open until 2 or 3?...contradictory entries online/door/website, etc. Staff was prompt at the beginning and then seemed to care a lot less when food was dropped (busy refilling mimosas.) Missed items in the order and needed to make additional requests. The food was very good (especially the Asada Fries) but not so good to trigger a return visit. I've been here 3 times so far and each time has been great . The first time for brunch I had the chilaquiles and they were amazing , on another occasion we stopped for late night drinks and we had a mezcal margarita and a Mexican lunchbox . Diego is a "Baja Mediterranean street food inspired restaurant" per their website but it also has traditional food like chilaquiles for brunch or enchiladas for lunch and dinner, but the thing you want to try here-what they're know for- is the seafood tostadas. It's a cold macaroni salad on top of a tostada. The chips and salsa are full round "chips" (tostadas) that you break up and dip in the selection of three different salsas. All three salsa were really good! Fish tacos were good also! The downside is the drinks. We tried four different cocktails and all of them were lackluster. I'm not sure if they were having an off night but none of them hit the mark. Things are a bit pricy, for the portion sizes you get. I know prices are up everywhere and what lacks in volume is made up with super high quality ingredients so you can't be mad at that. It looked super enticing when it came out to the table and yet somehow the taste and texture still blew our minds when we bit into it. A crispy dark layer of caramelized cheese wrapped around more creamy cheese and soft flavorful shrimp all bundled in a tiny tortilla that acts as a little handle for this heavenly taco. Imagine the best shrimp taco you've ever had, ok now multiply it by 10. Somehow they've managed to get a crispy layer of cheese encapsulating more cheese to not be a greasy mess. Other Chicago places are attempting to do this crispy cheese taco but this is one has perfected it. Just go now and try it that's all I can say. Steak Burrito: The ULTIMATE comfort food.
