1/4 chicken with avocado salad and Mexican rice
    Adiaha M.

This was a small restaurant that seemed pretty authentic. The service was friendly, quick and efficient. The chicken breast was juicy and flavorful. They brought out a spicy sauce that paired well with the chicken. I also liked the dressing on the salad. I also had a side of fried plantains which paired well with the plate. I left stuffed and happy!

Walked in with hubby on a sunny afternoon and the ladies were kind with hellos and smiles. Upon arrival we were already set on ordering to go, so as soon as we walk in, I expected to be given menus right away. That was not the case, my hubby grabbed one from the bar and proceeded to look at it while I waited for the waitress to attend to us. I ordered half chicken with two sides mini combo. My sides were an avocado salad and plantains. I like the open space in the restaurant, it helps to know where everything is while being there. I saw there is an open bar there with plenty of liquor to choose from. The food overall, was ok, the chicken was more on the dry side and the dressing should be placed on the side not on the salad , makes for a pretty soggy salad. I should mention, I ordered a small side of yucca and it was not fried fully so some were not as tender. If in the area, I may try again... I couldn't give a definite answer to that.

Nice warm spot for a decent meal. Atmosphere is cozy and staff friendly. Got the Peruvian chicken with Mexican rice, red beans & plantain's. Everything was decent; however, tasted warmed up, so wished it was cooked to order, except plantains, they tasted very good. We tried the Inca Cola Golden Kola & it was delicious.

I got the half chicken and it came with two sides. The chicken skin was very flavorful and cooked just right. The skin was crispy and the meat was still juicy. I like places like this where it's not super fancy, but still clean, good food, and decent pricing.

The Salchipapas taste as good as they look and they look as good as I taste.

If it were located in Siberia, it'd be "Pullover Bravo" because it's so cold. If it were greasy and caused heart attacks, it'd be "Pulminary Bravo" and I'd advise not eating here. And if it were the people that rigged the 2000 election in Florida, it'd be "Polling Station Bravo" and they'd get away with it. Again. What to get: Chicken with Salchipapa as a side. What not to get: Stuck being the side b**** of your Saltypapa. Pollo Bravo is easily the best rotisserie chicken in the Houston area. They have four or five locations and all of them serve delicious moist tender perfect Peruvian-Mexican Fusion rotisserie chicken with amazing green sauce. I don't like fusion food, but this is authentic traditional Peruvian with a little Mexican on the menu here and there, so it works. Nobody is butchering any cuisine here. It's the real sh**, and it's very affordable too. Their sides are all excellent especially the Salchipapas (as opposed to your Salty Papa... I know a good therapist?) which are delicious French fries mixed with hot dogs. It tastes a lot better than it sounds. Like my Aunt with the voicebox. The beans are great too, and service is nice. Hi to the girls working here (waves). Prices are not bad at all and portions are pretty decent. This is not DC or New York with masses of these Peruvian options available. Even the South (Carolinas and such) have more of these type of places than Houston does. So to have one this good in this city is really awesome. And the other locations are great too, especially the one up on Long Point. The only negative is that I have tried their desserts, and while they are highly rated I didn't really love either of them. But then I don't come here for the desserts. I come here for the best rotisserie chicken and sides in Houston. And if you think you know a better one, Peruve it. And if Mel Gibson yelled "you can take our lives, but you'll never take our chicken!" it's be "Pollo Braveheart." And if lots of surgically enhanced princesses who make X-rated movies for a living came here to eat, it'd be "Pollo Brazzers." (I know at least one who does, and I can Peruve it. The proof is in the pictures. The proof is not in the pudding though because I don't like the puddings here). And if said girl gets chafed while eating here because her enhanced thingies are too big and her (unneccessary) upper-half undergarment is too tight, then that's "Pollo Bra-straps."

Considered a Mexican/Peruvian fusion restaurant, this place specializes in roasted chicken. You can get plates ranging from 1/4 chicken to a whole one. Sides range from plantains to an avocado salad. You're served a really spicy green sauce when you are seated. But what doesn't make sense to me is why serve it so soon if there are no chips to accompany the sauce. I wish they served bread to go with the chicken. I felt like I was missing some carbs. Otherwise, Pollo Bravo does have delicious chicken and it's an affordable place to take your family. Their pesto pasta is delicious too.

1/4 chicken, sweet fried plantains and Mexican rice!

"Let's have some chicken!" Their rotisserie chicken is juicy, tender, not dry at all, absolutely flavorful! Choose the size: 1/4, 1/2 or whole chicken; dark or white meat. I chose the combo 1/4 chicken with 2 sides: sweet fried plantains and Mexican rice. My friends got yuca, green plantains, salchipapa, french fries. Very tasty sides as well! Big Tip : request for their Green Sauce!! It is their spicy sauce, but nothing to burn your mouth habanero style. Just enough spicy kick to keep the taste even more satisfied! Another point to keep in mind - their service is very prompt, no forever wait for the food, courteous as well. One last point but not the least - my lunch was under $10. Not bad at all, right? It's very worth a try at least!! I was happy and will definitely come back ! It's not only chicken, it's delicious chicken!! I would highly recommend this restaurant as well!!

The salad was served with only drizzle of dressing. Everything else looked bigger than the 1/4 chicken.

She was attentive to our needs but all business. We started with guacamole and queso. Guac was a huge portion with all the add ins. Queso was delish and served with fried flour tortillas (my fav). The gratis green dip, red sauce, and thick, crisp chips were on par. The fajitas. Just so so. Honestly, it reminded me of Taco Cabana. Very disappointing. Very little flavor and tough. The rice was yucky, the refried beans were the worst! Reminded us of the frito lay bean dip in a can. Even the Borracho beans were bad. HEB's in the can are far better. We received 2 corn and 2 flour tortillas. Fajitas served with pico, guac, sour-sour cream (I didn't even like that). Iced tea was fair. All in all, Fajitas very disappointing. If we had not been on the best fajita quest, I most likely would have ordered the chicken caldo soup. That never disappoints.

For drinks, my husband and our friends tried some of the margaritas from their large and unique margaritas menu, as well as their hibiscus agua fresca. All of the drinks were very pretty and it seemed like everyone enjoyed them, too! We started with their chips and salsa trio, which we all really liked. The chips were on the thicker side, but were crispy and not stale or chewy at all. Each of the salsas were quite different, and two were served warm, which we really liked! For the price, I'd consider getting the chips and salsa as a non-negotiable, honestly. For entrees, we tried the enchilada rojas, chilaquiles verde w/ chicken and beef, birria barbacoa ramen, and huaraches. My husband felt like his ramen could have included more meat, but aside from that everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. The highlight was probably the desserts, though! We got a quatro leches and two ordered of their giant and amazing churros. Both were incredibly tasty and reason enough to return for another visit in the future!

Arrived on Sunday evening around 7:30. Was sat immediately. Not my first time here so I knew the menu, my friends did not. So they needed time to see what drinks they wanted because they like cocktails and the menu is not small and they had to choose which ones they wanted because the options are good. When they decided, the cocktails straggled out. Two came out but the other two did not, They just sat at the bar as my friends sat with there with their drinks in front of them waiting on ours so we can toast to a wonderful day with a new member of the group. You would have thought the other staff would step in or at least the bartender would see that the waiter was in the weeds and needed help. That's when I knew we should have not come. The food was all lukw warm. The appetizer of queso was like warm with chunks of cheese floating around and some of the chips were fresh and others stale. A mixed bag you can say. My Flautas where luke warm, so was the side of beans and rice. My friends said their tacos were okay. My friend who got the Caesar Salad, there was no dressing on the salad not was there a side of dressing that came with it. We had to ask for it. I did not have the energy to try to keep wrangling the waiter. If you want to shut the kitchen down early because the day was long I get it. Let the customer know, I get it. I used to wait tables to but I would never give people luke warm food or luke service. The staff seems not to have one anothers back. I did not eat my food, I took my food home to reheat it so I could eat it at the proper temperature. My friend took his salad home because he had more Caesar dressing at home. Left a bad taste in my mouth and very disappointed. The service and food from the last time compared to this visit was night and day. Total miss. $200.00 thrown away. I paid because I could not let my friends waiste there money on someplace I raved about. Maderas is really a small cute spot. It's rare I have bad service when I go out to eat because I am not a difficult customer and I know I am not the only one they are serving. I will wait for good food and sit back and enjoy the atmosphere and my friends until it arrives. I would not put pressure on the staff or the kitchen. Also I will not arrive just before closing and make a resteraunt and it's staff stay open late because I am hungry. I rather come when the staff and the restaurant wants to recieve customers.

This was my second trip to Mexican Sugar. The first was in Grapevine. After this visit to the Montrose location, I have officially decided that when I am in Texas, I will seek these places out. At brunch, the papas bravas come as small cubes of fried potato with an airy crunch that gives way to a soft, pillowy center - the kind of deeply satisfying bite that makes conversation briefly irrelevant. Crisp prosciutto adds salt, aioli brings richness, and smoky chile sauce keeps it lively. They're served with cactus-handled toothpicks, which are almost offensively adorable. The chilaquiles divorciados are another hit. The chips are dressed with salsa rather than drowned beneath it, so each one arrives ready for the perfect bite. It's a small distinction, but an important one. Then there are the enfrijoladas: rolled quesadillas in fluffy tortillas, covered in creamy black bean sauce and plated with more care than bean and cheese might seem to warrant. The dish is fundamentally simple, but that's the point. Soft tortilla, savory beans, melted cheese, bright salsa. Familiar ingredients transformed into something deeply comforting--the culinary equivalent of curling up beneath a warm blanket on a cold morning, even if Houston rarely provides one. Dinner shifts into another gear. The crudos are sensational, especially the tuna tiradito - a rolling wave of flavor and texture. The tacos are excellent across the board, but the crispy maitake mushrooms are unmatched. The short ribs arrive juicy and tender on a mole negro that doesn't sit politely in the background. It lands dark, complex, and full of flavor. And then there's the masa cornbread, a masterpiece of unapologetic indulgence. Humble cornbread meets savory-sweet mole, smoky, earthy butter, and caviar. It sounds like too much. It isn't. Every element earns its place. The cocktails deserve their own warning. They're the kind that convince you to keep ordering the same drink all night. By the end, you may have forgotten what was in it. What you'll remember is that it was refreshing, perfectly balanced, and exactly what you needed.
