We are absolutely obsessed with the Fish and Bone! The staff are super knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. The store has a selection of dog and cat supplies that is extensive beyond all imagination. Although the prices can be very expensive, it is okay to go there for a treat, and there is a great "sales" section. Lots of treats and solutions and foods for dogs with specific health problems as well. I so look forward to visiting here whenever I can, and our dogs love it here as well. A great pet shop located in the heart on Newbury Street. I have visited a few times and absolutely love the atmosphere including the pets that come in. It's a great place that takes pride in the items they sell. Whenever I want to spoil my cat with a fun new toy, I know where to stop. They whole front room is dedicated to dogs but of you go to the back there is an ample supply of cat supplies! I always know I can ask questions and that the input is sincere. They offer a large selection of pet items including food, toys, and general supplies. I love this store! Took my 8 month Lab Pup to Fish & Bone last week to buy puppy shampoo. The owner Kathy and the friendly sales associate helped me to pick out a Sulfate Free shampoo by "U. Excellent customer service and great selection of toys and treats. The staff really loves pets and is not just there to make money off its customers. The staff are willing to do special orders and get whatever food you want. My only complaint is the high free delivery minimum. If you want food delivered for free try Polka Dog. I absolutely love this store. I have an 18 month old Cavvie who means the world to me. Whenever I go to Fish and Bone to buy her something, the staff is friendly and welcoming. They even remember my name, my dog's name and always ask how she's doing. If she comes with me they dote on her and that to me is great customer service (she IS the customer after all). Not only is the staff extremely kind, but they're very helpful. I've asked for advice on different kibble brands and they've pointed me towards some very reputable and healthy brands, and they've made suggestions on what to do when she refuses to eat already purchased kibble. We have been taking our standard poodle here since he was a puppy and we have been thrilled with that staff, the products, the thoughtfulness of its inventory and it's love of all things on four legs! We love the selection of treats and toys and leashes and outfits. Out standard poodle knows the store so well we can take him off leash and he can walk down Newbury street and right into the store! I live very close to this store, so I continue to go in and give them second, third, fourth chances. However, every time I leave this "establishment" I feel either disappointed or angry. To begin, the service his is unknowledgeable, unhelpful, and just plain unkind. Any time my husband or I have been in, we are ignored and must ask for help, and when we finally do get the attention of a staff member, they have no idea what they have in stock (which I find weird anyway, because its not a large store by any means, with limited variety) and no idea, it seems, about what is good, bad, or the other for any kind of dog. On top of this the owner brings her dog in, ties him up on a leash, and if your dog goes anywhere near her's, she freaks out and says the dog is not kind to any small dog. I can understand this, but if you are going to own a pet specialty store...and your pet is unfriendly...don't bring in your pet, kind of a no brainer. Or you could at least not be rude about it. Furthermore, the prices for what they have is really just outrageous. I find no reason to go here when there are two other pet boutiques within two blocks that have MUCH kinder service, more knowledgable staff, a larger variety of products, and much more reasonable prices. read more

I've stopped in here a few times when in town. It is a very small store with a nice selection of toys, leashes etc. They also have a small selection of high-end food, most of which is way over-priced. The staff is friendly for the most part, although I find the owner to be somewhat condescending. I have to agree with Amanda S. about the owner's dog. He doesn't seem to get along with other small dogs, so why on earth would you bring him into your store? This attitude, along with very high prices have me shopping elsewhere. read more

Love, love, LOVE this store! They have a wonderful variety of dog supplies...I even saw things for cats too! But, on the morning my husband and I went with our two Boston Terriers we were on a mission to get our pups new jackets. The sales lady was super friendly and sooo helpful!! She took the time to ask what we were looking for, make suggestions, and help us go through their wonderful selection of jackets. Even better, while we fitted one dog she played with the other one! I had a good experience here. Was looking for a harness and had to get a few different sizes. Unfortunately none fit too well and I has to return everything at the end. However, I had no issues at the register for the return and exchange, and in fact both cashiers were both very friendly! I still prefer polka dog for treats and snacks but Fish&Bone has more options for leashes and collars. read more

Since my favorite pet store in the Back Bay area has closed, I've now turned to Fish and Bone as it is one of two left in the area, the other being Pawsch (as far as I am aware!, and I've only heard great things about Pawsch, but I have a cat, and they seem to specialize in dogs). Fish and Bone is a slightly lesser competitor to the store that had closed, but still does a great job. Selection is great! They have a huge variety of everything, collars, leashes, beds, bowls, food, litter. And as far as I can tell their cat food is well priced. The food that I usually buy runs 1.89 at Petsmart, 1.79 at Whole Foods, and 1.77 at Fish and Bone per can. So competitively priced for sure. The only reason I'm knocking off a star is the service. I once stood by the cat food for over 10 minutes choosing cat food happily, and while I didn't need help, it would have been nice had someone said hello the whole time I was there. Sometimes the people who work there are very non-chalant and into doing whatever their doing, but are always friendly when you're ready to check out. Sooo, all in all, I enjoy going to Fish and Bone, but sometimes wish they had better customer service. Especially for a regular customer. I've also brought my family dog into the store once, they are much more attentive to owners with dogs with them (but, how could you not want to say hello to a happy dog?). And they gave her a treat. Which was nice, but also just showed the variation in service you may receive when you go in. read more

Just visited for the first time. I don't always go to the smaller boutique pet shops because I find they can sometimes seem overpriced. In this case, the quality of items they have is better than a big box store (which is why I went there in the first place, since I was looking for a better coat for my dog), but the prices were spot on compared to what you could pay elsewhere or online, and the staff was super helpful. They even have a rewards program and free delivery in the immediate area for orders over $50. Would absolutely recommend! I also see that the support some of the local animal shelters which is an added bonus! read more

Don't shop here. These ladies need to get a business education. 3 of us just purchased over $100 of toys and treats and I wanted to purchase a small ball that was sitting right on the counter but was apparently not in their inventory. The initial girl said she could not sell it to me, then the manager came out and her response was that the item was sent to them and they didn't know what to charge. Her response was to ask the employee to hide the items in the back. They had a larger version which I was perfectly willing to pay for in exchange for the smaller one. They are clueless when it comes to customer service. I am a veterinarian and will tell everyone to stay away from here. You can purchase everything they sell for less money on amazon. I was trying to support a local business but after that horrible experience I will never be back. All they had to do to make the experience ok was to charge me for the larger toy or just give me the smaller one since they admitted that they had been shipped the item for free. How anyone exists on Newbury Street with such poor customer service is beyond me. read more

I buy my (expensive) food for my Maine Coons cats here because they have rewards points that make it cost less than anywhere else. They will read the fine print to compare foods to get the right one. And they deliver for a fee, but will carry it to your car, too. I think their cat toys are very well chosen. No cheap plastic and the organic pickle is a great hostess gift if your hostess has cats. Best pet store in the city! I live about a 10 minute walk from here and its so worth it. The owner and staff are so friendly and helpful you leave feeling great about your purchase! They are a great company and even give treats to local stores that are dog friendly which makes for a very happy Pug on my walks! There are always cute doggies in here so if you don't like or are afraid of dogs probably not your cup of tea but at least stop in to meet the famous Zip! read more

I get my cat food from here because we use little-known canned brands that aren't available in most pet stores (including this one!). They get what I need from a warehouse and deliver it for free. We also buy frozen raw food here. We seem to spend more on cat food each month than we do for our own food, but we consider it worthwhile -- our cats are flourishing and slender on high-protein food. I'm not sure what I'd do if it weren't for Fish + Bone... well, I'd probably be paying more online, with shipping costs, and waiting around for deliveries. Like most pet stores, this one caters primarily to dogs, and if there's a dog ahead of you in line, you'll wait a bit while they fuss over it and its owner. But that's part of the charm of small, independent neighborhood stores: They know their customers. The owner, Cathy, takes questions and issues seriously and was helpful when I was figuring out how to feed my cats the best diet. I highly recommend this store. read more
