After dinner at Neptunes, we decided to check out the dog bakery. As we sat at our table during dinner. We noticed that every and I mean every dog (7) that walked in the parameter was drawn to the dog bakery. The storekeeper said, dogs from a mile away are drawn to the store. The store was so fun. My sister and I had just finished having dinner in the North End, we were walking around and doing shopping when we happened upon PolkaDog Bakery. I had never seen it before and I am a recently acclaimed "Pup Mom" so I was excited to bring her back a treat. Since we were in the spirit of "Little Italy," having just dined at Domenic's and on our way to Mike's Pastries, we wanted to keep the theme alive and opted to get baby Piper a puppy cannoli treat. I had looked at a few other products, and they seemed pricey so I just got the treat. We came in right before closing so it wasn't too busy. I can't say enough about this company. Years ago I bought a pink water bowl at Target in Florida where they had featured their products. Well the bowl 7 years later needed to be replaced but my poodle Cinnamon wouldn't drink out of any other bowl. I tried to find them online but didn't even know the name of the company since all that was on the bowl was an emblem of a dog. I found an old article about their feature in Target. Found the store on Facebook and called the store in Boston and the guy I spoke to said that it was discontinued but might have some left in storage. I was walking around the South End waiting for a reservation at Neptune's Oysters and remembered that it was one of my friend's dog's birthday coming up! Decided to come here and see if I can find anything cute or yummy to bring back to NY. Tyshawn greeted us with a warm hello and recommended a bunch of different treats for the birthday boy! I can't wait to see if he will like them. Tyshawn has such a warm and welcoming personality! If it wasn't for him, I probably would not have known what to pick out! I stopped by here after work knowing exactly what I was looking for. Our pups loveeee the chicken treats and wonder nuggets. We use them as a high value treat for training so want to be stocked up. Just when I thought I knew everything about what I needed I learned even more! If you bring back the container (tube or packaging) of any treats you buy you can refill the bag for 10% off! You can even refill the bag with a product you didn't originally purchase which means I can go from duck to chicken to change up the treat assortment. I was so happy the person working there went out of her way to share this with me. Fantastic customer service and amazing product! read more

I LOVE this store! I've visited Boston twice in the last month and both times we have gone out of our way to visit. I work at a pet store and we sell Polka Dog products, so I am familiar with the brand, but I was shocked to see how many more options they carried in their stores, and that they carry high end dog and cat food, including frozen options. After talking with one of the girls who works there for a bit, she informed me that this was the smallest of all of the stores around Boston. Despite that, they still carry a lot of great things for pets. I loved the 20 or so jars that were self-serve and charged by weight. I picked up some rabbit bon-bons, lamb ribs, and duck jerky for my dog. The duck training treats are a great size and I love that you can buy them in bigger bulk bags as well. There are doggy birthday cakes, bully sticks, no-hides, antlers, shin bones, and fish skins galore! While you can bring your dog in, and they do have a water bowl station, I would be careful with those pups who have propeller tails, as they may take out some of the merchandise. By far one of the best pet store experiences I've ever had. I work in a veterinary clinic and was so pleased with the brands they carry. The associate working had some serious customer service skills. We chatted about pet allergies, she gave me a few samples to try for my dog that's allergic to...almost everything. I stopped here on a work trip because I can't travel a thousand miles and not bring a present home for my fur kid. I had never heard of Polkadog Bakery but saw that their South Boston location has a ton of great reviews and took a chance on this location in the North End. The shop is so inviting and clean, and the employees in the store couldn't be nicer. They showed me all the products that were made right there that I wouldn't be able to get at my local pet store. I ended up purchasing cod skins, clam chowda (because hello, it's Boston), and the lucky duck biscuits. I absolutely love the limited ingredients list (single ingredient for the cod skins) - it makes me feel great about what I'm feeding my dog. He goes nuts for the Lucky Duck treats - he will actually drop other treats to get to that Lucky Duck. I will definitely be ordering a ton more online. I highly recommend this store if you want to give your dog the best of the best! read more

One of the best dog boutiques in the area! The space is amazing clean, well organized and they are always on top of their stock. The jars are neatly labeled and there's no confusion about what is what. Further more their employees are knowledgeable - in particular about ingredients which is exceptionally helpful as I was concerned about my dog having food allergies. They are inviting, warm and friendly - their selection of cat toys/food is pretty decent as well. They also have a few toys/collars/leashes so it's not just treats!
