I would look elsewhere for other groomers. Although the location is great, Dewberry is very expensive for the quality they give. I've gone here 3 times, the first time was better, but then since then they have charged more, done lower quality work, ignored requests (which is simply just a breed cut typically), and really don't seem to appreciate the business they receive. You can go to a chain like pet smart or petco and get a less expensive cut for better quality. On the positive, the location is good and they do have a nice retail section of the store with dog treats, toys, supplies, etc which are nice. read more

After our former groomer decided to no longer offer grooming services on Saturdays, we were searching for a new groomer who offered Saturday appointments. Took our guy in about two weeks ago (based on recommendations from two current clients) and they did a wonderful job! They did exactly what we asked and an even better job than our former groomer! He came out beautiful and so very soft. Same price range as our previous groomer. We found our new groomer! PS. If you want a Saturday appointment book well in advance. Also, parking on West Broadway can be difficult, we were able to find a space, just keep that in mind for pickup and drop-off. read more

I recently moved to Boston and I adopted a 7 year old maltese-Shitzu mix (Ozzi). I wanted to find a place to groom my dog and the closest one to me did not take new clients. I ended up going for the next choice which was a little further than I wanted but the reviews were good so I gave them a shot and boy am I glad! This shop is run by a sweet woman and her husband. They work super hard and do all the grooming themselves. Ozzi is only 18 pounds but he is a little tough. He's a darling little baby who's so sweet to me but super scared of strangers so he can be difficult to manage and easy out (I am unsure of his background but I presume he had some sort of abuse history...poor baby). He now has major attachment issues too so he's terrified whenever I leave him. I explained all of over the phone and they were very understanding. I took my dog in and when the male groomer came out I told him my dog doesn't do well with men. He was very kind and brough out his wife who proceeded to take my boy. I was hesitant but I let him go. only 1.5 hours later I got a call and my dog was ready to go! He was SO cute and had an adorable little scarf tied around his neck. His haircut was perfect and exactly what I wanted. He gave them a hard time especially when they tried to groom his behind (which he is really protective of) but despite all of this they did not charge me a "behavior" fee like some other places. They were SO kind and I really appreciate them taking the time to groom my skittish pup. I plan to be back as soon as possible! read more

Just tried Dewberry for my 7 year old Maltese for the first time today and I am so bummed I didn't know about this place earlier. They are so amazing!!! I have lived between Boston and California for the last 4 years, and have taken my dog to a groomer in the South End when I was between haircuts with her usual groomer in San Diego. However, my dog started crying and pulling in the other direction the last couple of times we went to the south end groomer and so I felt bad/suspicious and decided to try somewhere new. I made my appointment for 8am and the groomer was there and ready for my dog when I arrived. She was professional and the shop was clean. The groom took about an hour and a half (so fast!) and when I went to pick my dog up she was happily walking around and looked so adorable. I was very happy with the cut, the price, and how my dog was treated. I am moving back to CA for good and sad I can't bring my pup back here, but wanted to leave a review because I was so happy with the service. Thanks!!! read more

Have always had an okay time at Dewberry, until today. They rarely answer the phone but since we are around the corner, we stopped in to see when they would be available for a nail grind for my difficult pup (doesn't matter how much I practice with her or hold her paws, she just hates getting them trimmed/ground down), but have found Dewberry to be gentle and understanding with her. They told me they couldn't take her then but to come back at 1:30 the same day. I was thrilled they'd be able to take her the same day so We got there at 1:30 and were told I need to schedule appts at 2:45 before they close Bc my dog is difficult, okay, but you're the one who told me to come at 1:30, and again, I offered to go back at 2:45 if it was better for them. No, they took her right then. Her nail grind went well and they were super fast and gentle, but I always check each paw after and one of her du claws was still really long compared to the others, so I asked for them to trim just that one down so it was even with the rest. They fought me on that, telling me it was fine and had been trimmed, which is weird Bc it was SO much longer than the others, so I pushed back, and said I wanted that nail trimmed so it would not grow into her skin Bc it was left too long. They finally agree to trim that one, and it goes fine, they even warned me it may bleed but, again, it went perfectly fine! Then without my asking, they decided to retrim one of her other duclaws which was already plenty short. At this point they accidentally nicked her quick and my pup of course got upset (not a big deal, it happens even with the best, most seasoned groomers, but still unpleasant for the pupper). They went to use the anti bleed on her and it hurt so my pup tried to scramble to get down from the owner, who then dropped the bottle of quick bleed stop. The owner and her helper then berated me Bc it was "a $50 bottle of stop and we should have scheduled a 2:45 appt!!!!" Are you kidding? They cut her on the nail that didn't need to be trimmed again after I said she was all set after fixing the other nail. Also, you're the one who told us to come at 1:30. I work from home and could have easily come at 2:45 if they gave us that option when we booked the appt. We used to go, have a nail trim, buy collars, toys and snacks to support them as they're local business, but I would rather pay just about anyone else now. We won't be back, ever. My dog and I both left there shaking after they yelled at us for mistakes they made. My advice? Support a more professional groomer in the neighborhood who will treat both you AND your pup with respect. read more

We've been taking our 15lb mini Goldendoodle ever since she was a little babe. Dewberry is absolutely phenomenal - they take about 3 hours, keep the dogs free to roam, and I've never been disappointed with their cut and care. This most recent time they had mentioned she was a bit matted (which I was aware about) but they took the special care to NOT shave her and simply brushed her out and cut her appropriately. I cannot say enough about how much I LOVE Dewberry Dogs! I have been taking my pug, Skyla here since I moved to South Boston almost 2 years ago and sometimes I have trouble getting her to leave. I've been to more than a few groomers before and this has by far been the best expirience. She doesn't like to be away from me, but never seems to mind going to the groomers at Dewberry. They always put cute little bows in her hair and a matching handkerchief. I usually call the morning of and they always find time to fit her in. I've also walked in a few times just asking for a quick nail trim and they have never turned me down - even when it looks like they are super busy. Skyla HATES getting her nails cut but doesn't seem to mind when they use their nail file. Their prices are great and I can't say enough about how nice the owners are! They've even offered pet sitting services at their home for a very good price. Skyla always comes back smelling great and shedding a lot less for a week. I was quoted $50 and actually charged $55 which I expected for at least one of my two due to time since last grooming. Both should go every eight weeks and it had been longer due to the holidays and miscellaneous circumstances. Gizmo is a Maltese-Shihtzu mix with very silky hair. It gets matted easily especially when long, and he does not enjoy being brushed. I will definitely return to Dewberry. I'd never had a cat groomed before, so I went to yelp to see who got the best reviews in Boston. The members of this family-run establishment obviously really enjoy working with animals. The cats and dogs in the shop were all having a good time when I was there. Nobody was upset. The owner talked to me extensively about what would happen to my cat during his visit, and I was shown around the place. I felt confident about leaving my dreadlocked kitty behind. When I picked him up he had more of a haircut than expected (they opted for the "Lion cut" because his matting was so bad). He hadn't been well-behaving during the shaving, but they said he did well during the shampoo (to my surprise). He's very happy with his funny new hairstyle, and didn't seem at all upset by the experience when I brought him home. read more

I called yesterday and booked an appointment for this morning to get my cat groomed. My cat had only been groomed one time before and all went well but that groomer has since closed. But I'm glad that I found Dewberry's! When I called the woman who answered (sounded like the daughter of the shop) was very helpful and explained how they groom cats - the procedure, timing, etc. I was surprised that they had openings with such short notice but was also grateful since I had waited far too long to bring in my long haired, part-coon cat. He was very knotted up. I arrived at 8am this morning and had a lovely conversation with the shop owner. She immediately took my cat out of the carrier and let him hang out on the counter while we chatted about the procedure. Then I got to see the area where he would be groomed and even stayed to watch her cut his nails - he didn't flinch once and appeared to be relatively comfortable...for a cat in a new place. I left and called around 9:30 to check in, and was told that he'd be ready by 10-10:30. Perfect! When I arrived he was calm, completely knot-free, and even had a little bandana around his neck (so cute!). Because he was in dire need of a bath and trim it cost $65 but I was told if he is brought in every 3 months or so it would be closer to $55. Overall it was a great experience for me and seemed to be a relatively stress-free experience for my kitty. I'll definitely go back. read more

My cat had been groomed 3 previous times by her vet who offers grooming services where had 3 terrible experiences of varying degrees. Searching for a new groomer, I read the reviews of Dewberry Dogs & Cats and decided to try it. They had me at hello. I'm telling you, they put me at ease when they sensed that I was going to have more of a problem leaving my cat there than my cat would have being groomed. They explained everything to the Nth degree and I left there knowing more about cat grooming than from my other 3 experiences at the vet combined. They also assured me that they do about 30 cats a week and are "cat whisperers." They asked me a lot of questions about how I wanted her to be groomed and let me decide what was best for my girl. All of which helped me leave my precious sweetie in their hands. An hour after I left, they called to give an update on how kitty did with the "clipper vac" (she did fabulously!) and that she was "about to go into the tubby." I was so relieved to hear that she was doing well. Moreover, I was just happy to be involved in her grooming process rather than just dropping her off, picking her up 8 hours later and not knowing what happened in between. I have no hesitation recommending this place to any other apprehensive cat owners out there. There's on-street parking so make sure you plan that into your drop-off / pick-up schedule. read more

I took my cat to Dewberry, as she had mats on her backside. I asked them to shave her down, nothing fancy I just want my pet to be comfortable. The staff was very nice and knowledgable. And - after analyzing my pup's tear stains & muzzle, the groomer recommended an organic solution to his problem (organic apple cider vinegar in his water to get rid of any yeasty issues). I had been planning to start him on a commercial antibiotic product - but after implementing the suggestion, he's doing great (and doesn't need the chemicals). I've brought my Yorkie here a few times now, and Dewberry has never failed to please. They don't use any super pungent shampoos, which I really appreciate because all I really want is my dog to smell clean, and not like some fruit punch drink mix. Also, I'm very gun shy about cutting any of my little pup's hair because as soon as I do, I know all of the black will be gone. The people at Dewberry are very understanding about this, and are careful to cut only what's really necessary (enough so that I can see his twinkling little eyes again), without going overboard. Usually, i just ask for a bath and a brush out, which always comes with a nail trim. They've also mentioned to me that if they have a super busy day and can't fit in the nail trim, they gladly take people just popping in when it's less busy, and they can easily take care of the nails. Finally, nothing beats the price! I frequent another place in Newton because it's so much closer to my house, but most recently, they charged me an extra $15 because I asked for an ear cleaning. When I brought my dog to Dewberry this most recent time, I asked for an ear cleaning in addition to the usual stuff, and I still paid the same price! So the extra driving time? We moved to the neighborhood a few months ago and shortly thereafter brought home a French Bulldog puppy. We walk past Dewberry's Dogs every day with Clark and without fail, he tries to stop in. I think he was on to something. We've brought him there twice in the last month, once to have his nails trimmed and more recently for a bath. We've also bought treats there on occasion (dehydrated chicken: terrifying, but Clark loves it). The owners and staff are incredibly nice and Clark came home smelling... well.. like a clean dog, and seemed to really enjoy playing with the other dogs who were there that morning. We've been bringing our two pups to Dewberry for several years now and couldn't be happier our boys found such caring, fantastic people to work on them! They have both been going to Bruna for grooming since their rescue and we felt at ease since our very first visit! One of our boys also had a major surgery as a pup for medical issues and Dewberry has always been so conscientious and careful with him making sure he stays comfortable during his grooming. I took the dog we've been dogsitting for a few months to get cleaned. He is not your average dog- he's a puli. Which means he has dreadlocks. In the 14 years he's graced the world with his presence he has never been professionally cleaned or put in a fabulous/terrifying drying machine. I was very impressed that Dewberry's owner (I forget her name) has worked with pulik before! She put the dog at ease and returned him to us several hours later at a very reasonable price and smelling the best he's smelled his life (of course this was spoiled in a few hours after strategic lawn rolling). I just moved to Boston and have been desperately looking for a place to get my dog groomed. She was a shaggy mess since our groomer back home had gone on a long vacation. +They actually return your calls. I have called a handful of places and Dewberry was the only one courteous enough to call back. +The owner took time to get to know me and my dog so they were comfortable together once I left. +Great value. My dog got her nails clipped, bath, ears cleaned, full groom with some de-matting for $50. +/- Dogs are allowed to play freely in a penned area. My dog is very small and one of the big dogs wouldn't leave her alone. The solution was to put her in a kennel, which made me happy that she was safe. I just wish she could have gotten some play time too. +/- Her back claws were not clipped, only the front. - 4 hours is a big time commitment. Be prepared to leave your dog from 8am-12pm. I will be bringing my dog back. It's a great value, and the owner made both me and my pup feel comfortable. read more
