In my experience, the groomers always do a good job and take excellent care of my dog. Sometimes they are quick and other times 4-5 hours for a bath and brush. That is the only frustrating part. read more

I came here today for an aquarium tank background for my feisty little betta. They had a good selection and the cheapest was $3.50 which I thought was great. The store was clean and they had great brands to choose from for fish care such as omega one betta buffet flakes. They are short staffed so keep that in mind, and the staff are clearly tired of it because they can come across as not the friendliest, but that's a problem with management and not staff themselves. read more

Usually everyone here is friendly. The staff is mainly younger and they are very nice and approachable. Unfortunately, there is one cashier, name starts with a K, who I avoid like the plague. She's older, surly and seems REALLY put out. This is not the right job for her. Every time I see her there, I dread having to go to the register. It's to the point where I'd rather come back when she's not working. She's huffing and puffing with every transaction, like it's our fault we are in the store, shopping for our pets. I don't make any demands on anyone. I walk in, get my stuff and I check out, so I hardly consider myself a tough customer. I don't ask for anything. It's unfortunate, because the other staff will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. This one person is tarnishing their reputation as the friendliest store. PROS: The sales are usually pretty good. If you catch the right time for your specific dog food, you can get it cheap. They sell the stuff approaching expiration by 20-40% off. And expiration is more than a month away in most cases, sometimes much more. If you buy smaller bags of food, you can easily go through them in 2-3 weeks. I do this before boarding our pup, so I can drop off the bag and I never ask for it back, so they can keep the remainder. Mostly friendly staff, with the above exception. Returns are easy. They will email your receipt. CONS: The store could use some updating and I found one staff member to be very unpleasant. It's unfortunate, because the rest of so nice. OVERALL: I like shopping here, but I'll do it on days when the nice cashiers are working. read more

If I could give points on the negative scale I would. DON'T TRUST NEWTON, MA GROOMING SALON IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR DOG!!! We had horrible experience today with their grooming services. Our dog came home TRAUMATIZED! There is a serious problem in the communication with customers - we've been told that our dog's hair will be cut short. Instead her entire body, legs, head and ears were uneven shaved almost to the skin. When I called with a complain, they started to transfer me from person to person. Apparently, the person who did this horrible work on my dog (Gladys) was a different person (Karin) who communicated with us and to whom the dog was given for the grooming. I hope my dog will be recovered soon from this bad experience. read more

KAREN walked away from ringing me up because I politely asked her to wait one minute before ringing me so I could get out my coupons. All of a sudden she says softly.."I don't need this shit", and just walked away to leavd me stanfing therr alone?./wtf??!! I've have had a few previous problems with her and each time I call and speak to the manager. They stick up for her and keep saying they'll "talk to her". They also say no one else has ever complained about her. I said BS, I bet they have..then he says "Well, ONE person has." I asked him why is she still on the register?? WOW. Such poor ratings for such a great, new, Petsmart store. I visited for the first time, today, September 13, 2015. And WOW. This Petsmart is the CLEANEST Pet Store, I've ever been too. The Westwood Petsmart and the one in Walpole are also both clean, but this one is EXTRA clean and I was the *only* shopper in the store. There were multiple employees in the checkout area offering help, which I didn't need, yet was pleasant, as well as the price scanner actually working (which at most pet stores, for some reason, don't work!). Anyway, checkout went smoothly, except for the pure fact that they had these HUGE paper bags, instead of plastic ones, which the city of Newton does not allow (no large store signs, no drive thru restaurants, and now no plastic bags! Wow Newton is turning terrible!). Overall, great Pet store, highly suggested. Located on Needham Street, yet hidden entrance on Tower Road, right by Michaels. There is even a parking garage, very convenient for rainy days! read more

The grooming salon is not up to par. They made time to accommodate my pup but were not confident in handling her. She was flailing about and falling off the grooming table; and was only there for a nail trim. I do not recommend this grooming department for anyone with a large dog, mine is 65 lbs. read more

A couple of days ago, I was driving out to Newton (from South Boston) on very short notice, because there was a miscommunication with the person I was going to be picking up my new kitten from, and I had to pick her up earlier than expected. The problem was, I didn't have any supplies yet (cat carrier, litter box, etc). So I quickly purchased a few items online (with in-store pickup) from the PetSmart in Newton, hoping to swing in at grab these supplies before picking up my new pet. However, the automated confirmation email from PetSmart said "if you place an order within 2 hours of closing time, your order will be ready the next day". I had placed my order at 5 pm, when PetSmart was scheduled to close at 6pm, so I was screwed. I was already on my way to Newton, and had no idea what to do if I didn't at least have a new carrier to bring the kitten home in. I called up PetSmart, explained my situation, and asked if there was anyway they could get my order ready for pickup today (and I was already 10 minutes away from the store at this point). Not only did Kelcie immediately go gather the items that I purchased, and had them ready at the front counter, but she also brought up an alternative cat-carrier that she strongly suggested I exchange for (for the same price) instead of the one that I selected online, which was too small, and my cat would grow out of it in a matter of months. She processed the exchange, and had me in and out of the store in a matter of a few minutes, and totally saved my day. read more

Brought my dog here for a grooming appointment. The ladies at the salon couldn't have been nicer. They were friendly with a wonderful sense of humor and warm and welcoming nature. They even out my dog's name on a welcome sign. The whole experience was great and I would highly recommend to anyone considering their services. read more

I advise all loving pet owners to never take their dogs to the Petsmart in Newton for grooming. My dog went to get shaved for warm weather and they injured her very badly. They severely burned her private area and behind with their razors to the point where my dog is unable to walk and is visibly in an immense amount of pain. No other part of her body is burned, they were just completely careless grooming around her most sensitive areas. I had to take her to the Vet emergency room and they were absolutely appalled with what these groomers did to her. Let alone the vet bill costing over 300 dollars. I urge you to take your pets somewhere where the groomers are responsible and feel the need to take care of your pet, rather than burn them and leave you to deal with their inability to do their job correctly. Do yourself and your pet a favor, and never ever bring them to the petsmart in Newton to get groomed. I wish I could leave a 0 star rating. read more

I've always had good experiences with the staff here. Looks like a lot of people have trouble with the manager Karen, but I have not experiences that issue. They have even helped me get coupon savings, which is nice. The bigger problem is our dog food has been carrying pantry moth larva pretty consistently from this store (We use PetSmart's Simply Nourish Turkey & Brown Rice). We had never had a problem until mid 2017 we ended up with a bag that contained moths. The next bag also contained moths, so we decided to go to the Fresh Pond location for a bit to escape the moths. A bit later we went back to the Needham St location and noticed many of the dog food bags in the store contain moth larva in the exterior folds and the aisle has a fair number of moths flying around. The staff was helpful cleaning the bag and checking the inside for larva, but it is a real problem that needs to be taken seriously if they want to keep customers. My wife won't let me buy here if they have bugs, even if it is closer! FYI: Pantry moths are not dangerous to you or your pet, just unsightly, and can be difficult to remove from your home once they infest your stored dried food. read more

PETSMART poor service I visited the store for a dog grooming and was recommended a product by one of their associates. As it was sold out in the store they said the fastest way to get it was to order online and it would ship free to my house in a few days. Ordered it on one of their IPads on 1-20-15. Had not arrived by 1-26-15 so I called and was told it is being shipped by UPS but with USPS delivery and I won't get it till February 2,2015. This was not what I expected so beware of shipping delivery estimates !!!! read more

Petsmart is one of the stores I dread shopping at. They generally have the dumbest and most unpleasant employees I have encountered. This one is new and a little better than the other Boston area petsmarts. I had to deal with a few employees on my latest visit and I was shocked that they were actually nice and not stupid. As far as pet food goes, they have the cheapest prices around. The only bad thing is they do not carry some healthy brands like natural balance. Their food is generally cheaper than what you would pay at petco. The one thing I like about petsmart is the clothes they carry for dogs. They have some cute shirts and sweaters and the prices are pretty reasonable, usually under $10 if you have a pet perks card. It's always been empty when I've been there and parking is very easy. read more

I took my dog to this Petsmart to get groomed. He's a small little 9 lb shih tzu, which they said was great throughout the entire grooming. I think the groomers had great intentions and asked me a ton of questions about what I wanted. My issue with this experience was that it took over 4 hours. My appointment was at 1pm and I was called about my dog being ready just after 5pm which I found to be excessive. I also had to go back to get him touched up on some spots they missed. Again, the intentions were great but I don't think I will go there again. read more

I've had really good luck with the grooming department. I have brought my Aussie mix to Debbie for a long time now. Debbie makes my dog beautiful. My dog doesn't like to go to stores, but now that Debbie has handled her for a while, she is getting more comfortable. Debbie is also really nice to Haley. She sweet talks the dog and handles her gently. I've also brought a foster dog there to get a clean up. Debbie did a wonderful walk-in package for $25. I added a new blue collar. Afterwards, I took some new pictures for the web and this dog got adopted within 2 weeks. Haley can always be hard to handle, but I always tell the groomer not to push it with her. Its not worth someone getting hurt. The only time they eased back on the regular package was during the time we had a massive construction project going on at our home. Haley was a basket case every day, with the pounding, drilling and the electric saw going on for 10-12 hours daily. Haley was pretty close to psychotic. Now that the project is over, she has calmed down to her unreasonable self. I have a new dog as sweet as sugar. I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do with him too. read more

Can't believe this place doesn't have five stars all around! Easily the cleanest, friendliest, and largest selection I've seen at a pet store this close to the city. And, being that we live in the city, we very much appreciate that this location has parking available. We just got our pom-chi groomed and we were very nervous. We adopted her in December after she had been in the shelter for 8 months, and she is a nervous wreck around strangers, so we didn't know how the grooming process would go. The ladies in the grooming area were SO nice, understanding, and accommodating to our girl; and she came out looking and smelling great! We will definitely be using their services again! read more

This was my first visit to the Newton PetSmart and I was very impressed. The store is fairly new, and is beautifully stocked with everything one could possibly need. In particular, the dog food section has every quality dog food one could want. The staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. Although the Cambridge store is closer to me, I'm going to head back to the Newton store for all my needs. The parking is easy, and covered!!, making trips with a dog in tow much easier if it's raining. All in all, I'm very happy to have found this new store! read more

My pups favorite place in the world is this petsmart. The staff is excellent and banfield is just amazing with her. This review is strictly for the grooming solon. The day before my appointment I called to confirm we were all set for our appointment and they said yes. We got there and they said she didn't have an appointment. They said they would still take her and started asking me what I wanted done. I explained to them I'm new dog owner and asked what they would do for a pomeranian. They didn't want to give me suggestions because if I didn't like it they didn't want be to be responsible. I with having no idea what it'd look like I said take about an inch off. They said it would take 3 hours. They called around the 2 hour mark and I walked in they gave me the bill (49.99) told me to go pay and they'd get my pup. I paid and I walked back into the solon and wanted to cry. I had no idea it was going to look like that. Her fur is uneven in serval different places and there are spots they clearly missed. They also made sure I knew she wouldn't sit still while they were trimming her. She is 7 months old... of course she is not going to sit still! I'm am very disappointed. We will return to this petsmart for all our other needs but never again for grooming. read more

I went to Petsmart today to buy a fish and a tank thermometer. I was happy about finding the thermometer for a decent price. But my fish died before I even got home, and the service I got makes me not want to return to the store. Additionally, I was disappointed to see that two bettas were dead and growing mold. Sad. I'll be sticking to a farther away location in the future. read more
