I have a persnickety chihuahua and a chiweenie and Carlos was amazing with both of them. Not only was the grooming itself excellent, but when I picked them up, it was obvious my grumpy old dog really liked Carlos (and he doesn't like anyone). The shop itself is small and very clean. Also worth mentioning is that there were a half dozen dogs in the grooming area, and they were all super calm and happy, and clearly felt very comfortable with Carlos. I highly recommend Soft Paws! Side note: it's cash or check only, so don't be a dummy like me and show up with just a card. read more

Carlos is one of the kindest people I know. He's fantastic with the dogs and they simply love him. Moxie always looks incredible after visiting Carlos at South Paws. I never worry about her or what she'll look like or how gently and considerately she'll be treated. Carlos is aces! read more

I am so glad that I found Carlos and Soft Paws! My Himalayan kitten had severely matted fur and I knew she needed a lion cut badly. However she is so small and fussy that it was definitely a difficult job. Though I had to leave her at the groomer from 8:30am-5pm, and eventually help Carlos with managing her during the grooming, I was never fearful that Carlos didn't know what he was doing or would hurt her in any way. He is so friendly and professional and eventually we got the job done and she looks great! He also gave me a significant discount on the price for helping out, and I was so happy that he didn't give up on my kitten!! Will definitely be going back! read more

Carlos does a wonderful job of grooming dogs. Our dog Nola always looks fantastic after a visit with her friend Carlos. Personally I think Carlos under charges normally give them a big tip. read more

The couple bad reviews about this place are FAKE! It's obvious b/c it's the only review for for that person. It has to be his competitors. You can't trust a yelper with under 5 reviews. Makes sense. Carlos is literally one the nicest people I had ever met. He takes good care of my dog. I hate to see ppl lying to hurt his business. read more

When my dog got older, she was more and more difficult to groom. I tried several groomers and I would get called to pick my dog up early because she was impossible to groom. I then tried Carlos at Soft Paws. He understood my dog's anxiety. He would work on her slowly, doing a little at a time and then give her a break. Then he would do a little more. It took a long time, but he was very patient. My dog always looked great when I went to pick her up. I cannot say enough good things about Soft Paws and I highly recommend this groomer. read more

Carlos is amazing! Our rescue dog is always very nervous about being groomed, but Carlos is so gentle and calm with him. He always comes home super clean and smelling great. I would recommend Soft Paws to anyone! read more

Carlos is an amazing groomer. Not only is he super affordable (we paid $40 for groom, expression, and nails) but he is so kind. Definitely recommend him and my puppy even got a complimentary scarf for the holidays! I never really know what to do with my puppy's groom but Carlos has a great eye. Will be back agains soon! read more

I took my fluffy Himalayan - Ragdoll here for a lion cut. After a bad experience with another groomer in town I was nervous to leave my cat with anyone as he can get really upset. Carlos assured me my cat would be fine, and if he became too upset he would give me a call. Carlos listened to exactly what I wanted for my cat and was open to seeing the pictures of what I wanted/didn't want. I picked my cat up and he was so calm and relaxed. His haircut came out perfect! There were a few downsides- cost & time. To wash/cut my fluffy cat came to $90. I dropped my cat off at 8 am and he was not ready to be picked up until 4pm. read more

Carlos was amazing with my toy poodle! She was turned down by her previous groomer because she was too aggressive but Carlos has a very calm demeanor and he was able to handle her! This was our first time here and I couldn't be happier. He took the time to show me what types of brushes he uses and was very friendly. He also didn't overcharge. I highly recommend this place :) read more

Carlos did an amazing job with our Himalayan--definitely one of the best and cleanest lion cuts that we've ever had for him. His attention to detail is amazing and our kitty was very happy to have a nice new style for the hot summer. It is cash or check only, but his prices are just as good, if not better, than other local groomers that we've gone to for the same service. Will definitely come back here for all future grooms! read more

I brought my Havanese to be groomed here last fall after reading many good reviews on Yelp. The owner Carlos is an exceptionally nice guy and it is clear that he loves animals and has a nice way with them. My dog seemed very comfortable when I dropped him off and afterwards. He looked great when I picked him up and was wearing an adorable bandana! The location is very convenient in Newtonville center right off Walnut Street and there is plenty of street parking right in front of the shop. I think the prices were very reasonable. My only negative comment is that it took a long time for the dog to be groomed. I dropped him off at 9am and he was there until about 4pm. I had recently adopted the dog and he was very matted, so this might explain the time it took. I am still giving five stars because I think Carlos is a top notch groomer. read more

I have been bringing my super fluffy himalayan cat to Carlos for about a year now. I previously attempted to bring her to Petco but they refused to work on her because of her "aggression" (she hates the groomers and vets). I found Carlos on yelp and decided to give him a try and have never looked back. He knows exactly how to handle her and I am very comfortable leaving her in his hands. She always comes back with a beautiful lion cut and smells amazing! I highly recommend Carlos. read more

Carlos is hands down THE BEST out there. My dog has been sent home from multiple groomers because he is admittedly very difficult (he's a tiny 8 pound malitpoo but just hates having his hair cut!). Not only is Carlos the only one who can handle my dog, but he actually enjoys going there! He always comes home happy and looks great. Carlos is also very kind and friendly. Highly recommend! read more

I have a 70lb collie mix with too much hair. He loves to swim and so far this summer we've been quite active in the pond. The fur was not drying completely and pup was starting to stink like some unholy swamp creature! Pup got the wash and cut. He looks and smells great! Carlos clipped his nails and brushed his teeth too! I am especially fond of the powder-like smell that pup's coat is left smelling like! Carlos was very calm and relaxing to me and the pup and he did an amazing job! I would suggest him to anyone and I will go back! read more

Carlos always does a great job with our long hair chihuahua and our persian cat. He's always able to take them week of, we drop them off at 8 and pick them up a few hours later looking amazing. read more

After researching and trying other grooming places in the area for my 6 pound shih tzu, this was the perfect fit. Carlos is very friendly and took very good care of my dog. The grooming was superb and the price makes it more than worth the money. Will absolutely be going again read more

I have two fluffy-ass Ragdolls, which are rumored to be non-matting and non-shedding. Lies. I used to be able to keep up with daily grooming, but since I've started working 12 hour days at my business, it's gotten ugly. This week I decided that it was time for a kitty makeover. I've only gotten them groomed once before, at Toureen in Watertown. I had no basis for comparison at the time, so I was okay with how they returned to me: the long-haired, less matty one was clean and fluffy, and my shorter-haired, tangly girl got the lion cut. I remember being annoyed that their ears weren't even touched, as that was part of the package. I also remember the lion cut looking patchy, with obvious shave marks. Again, I didn't know any better, so I assumed that that was what it was supposed to look like. I was happy to find Soft Paws right around the corner from my apartment, and set up an appointment. A few hours later, the cats looked fantastic. The owner obviously takes pride in what he does, and he spent a good amount of time making sure they looked perfect. Complete difference from my previous experience with a groomer, and his prices are really competitive, too! read more

Carlos is the best. Great table side manners with the animals and super friendly to human clients. His work gets done perfect and he loves what he does. Highly recommend! read more

I took my Maine Coon to Soft Paws after I couldn't get an appointment with my regular groomer and I am so glad I did. He bathed her and gave her the best lion cut she has had. The cut is short but with no tell-tale razor marks and she still smells good two weeks later! So happy I found Carlos. He is reasonably priced (less expensive than my usual groomer and does a full bath, nail cut, and ear clean). So happy I found Soft Paws! read more

Took both of my very long haired cats to Soft Paws this past weekend. Their lion cuts came out perfect and the shedding has stopped! He was even able to give both cats a bath and clip their nails...which is something the place I used to take them to said they could not do as they were too "aggressive". I was very nervous as I had never left my cats somewhere for a full day (at the other groomers I stayed with them per her request). I felt very confident in knowing my cats would be treated well while they were at Soft Paws without me! Would highly recommend Soft Paws for your long haired cats! read more

Brought my cat here a few times, the owner is nice and friendly, my cat always comes back smelling great and fresh. Cash only. Normally I have to make an appointment a week in advance. The only problem is the owner isn't so good with estimating the time to be done. He told me it would be done around 2-3pm but I always end up not being able to pick up my cat until 5. Other than that, everything is great! read more

We brought out newly adopted 1 year old norfolk terrier to Carlos and our experience was amazing and each time we went back it was consistently amazing. Carlos puts a lot of time and effort into grooming the dogs and making sure he does a good job even if it means that he has to work from morning to night. It may take a long time depending on the amount of dogs he has, but it is sure worth the wait if it does take him awhile. I highly recommend Carlos to anyone who wants to get their dog groomed for a reasonable price. We won't be going to anyone else! read more

This was our second visit at Soft Paws and it is safe to say that this is definitely the only place we will be taking our little Persian cat to! I actually had scheduled the grooming for the following weekend but Carlos was still able to make time for our kitty and he couldn't have been more accommodating. Our cat looks/smells amazing and she came out so calm and content. This is truly a great local business to support and I would recommend Soft Paws to any cat/dog owners! read more

I have three schnauzers and have been going fir years to soft paws. They treat my dogs very well. The cuts are amazing and they charge a fair prize. Excellent place! read more

Was not happy with the treatment of my dog as she was cut by a scissors and I was not told about it. My dog developed a bad infection and almost died. I had to get a vet to come to my home to treat her. I have heard other problems from numerous people about the careless treatment in grooming that almost killed their dogs too. I will never return! Carlos takes too many dogs at a time to treat them properly. After being a client for years, I was disappointed that he did not let me know that she was cut and I amost lost her!! read more

Carlos is truly amazing. My Persian cat gets too hot with a long coat in the summer and she has some skin issues with hot spots and dermatitis. I brought her to Soft Paws to have her get the Lions Cut and even though I think she looks silly, she feels much better. She's more playful and running around rather than sitting in front of the fan all day. She smells incredible and she's silky soft. I would recommend Soft Paws to anyone looking for a top notch groomer! I had a time constraint that I brought up when I dropped her off and I was able to pick up my cat early with no issues. Reasonable pricing, Carlos is seriously talented, and my cat is happy to stay nice and cool! Thank you again and my cat is happy to shed some fluff! read more

Carlos at Soft Paws is absolutly the best!!! I have been bringing my pomeranian, "Dozer" for quite a few years now. I like to keep his hair short for a Pomeranian so I am there quite often. Carlos always gives hime a great haircut including brushing his teeth and giving him an adorable scarf!! I think I have at least 20 scarfs by now!! Dozer doesn't cry or panic when we go which is HUGE!! Dozer gets a Christmas card every year on top of it all!!! I wouldn't go anywhere else!! read more

We had a fantastic "manicure" experience here. Our 3 1/2 yr old cat was calm, quiet, throughout the time. We'd recommend Carlos

I brought my puppy in today and am very disappointed with her haircut. When I dropped her off, I showed Carlos a photo of her from a month ago and asked for her to look just like the photo. When I picked her up this afternoon, I didn't recognize my dog because the cut was so different and nothing like the photo. I'm very unhappy with her cut and don't plan to go here again. read more
