Originally, I selected them because of their convenient (for me) location, but I've become loyal to them for many other reasons. Let's go with three: 1. Flexibility. Daycare hours are pretty extensive (check their website for the most up to date information) - right now they are 7am-7pm. I usually find that the store is staffed before 7am, even. I like the flexibility of being able to drop in as needed and pick her up whenever is convenient for me on any given day. The cost of daycare (and any other purchases I make (just go right to my card on file. Easy! 2. Communication. Every day that I send my pup to daycare, I get text updates about what she's been up to, whether or not her potty break was "productive," and something nice like "have a great day!" 3. Kindness. After only a few visits, the staff quickly remembered my dog's name and they always welcome her (and me!) when I drop her off. I know that my dog is not without her quirks, but I've never heard anything but praise and love for her from the staff at D'Tails, which is just so sweet. They're all true animal lovers there who treat pets with compassion and pet owners with kindness. They are also a business that is very clear about their inclusivity- specifically very LGBTQ friendly. You can't put a price tag on all of that, but theirs is very reasonable! Again, check the website for the most up to date information but right now Daycare is $21-$36/day depending on the length of your pup's stay. Downstairs in the daycare space, there seems to be a setup for every type of dog. Crates for pups who like a comfy den-style nap, soft beds for rests, chairs for pups who want a great view of the rest, and floor space for playing. I also know that the staff is more than willing to cuddle with or hold your dog if that's what pup wants... like mine often does! The only constructive thing I could offer is that it does look pretty dingy down there, but I mean... it's a play room for dogs and it serves its purpose well! There are also lots of treats and goodies and adorable sweaters in the shop upstairs. Can't go wrong! I know that they also offer walking and grooming but I've not used those services. It feels so good to have a group of people- from Dawn the owner to the wonderful staff like Rachel, Kendra, Christiana, Mary and more - who I can trust to care for my beloved little mutt!

I dropped him off first thing in the morning and he was ready within an hour which was perfect. I tried Dog Bulter in the past but after 4 hours they called me to say that my dog is being aggressive. That was news to me, but it turned out that they had 25 other dogs roaming around at the same time. That explained the behavior. They were nice but not suitable for my dog. So I'm happy that I can take my dog to D'tails where the grooming is done more on a one on one basis. I found it a little too pricy but my dog seemd to had a better experience so I'm ok with that.

I moved to Boston in November and decided to send my dog to daycare and boarding here as it's close by to my home. Previously my dog was in daycare for years in our other city we lived in and he absolutely loved it. Immediately upon arriving to this location it is incredibly small. I believe they take the pups on pack walks so they're not inside the whole day. It's so small inside I don't see how they even have enough room to play. I started sending my dog here on Saturdays and I noticed he would start crying when we would turn onto the block. I'd drop him off and he would have a complete meltdown and I didn't understand why, as the staff here is incredibly kind. I also had to start traveling for work, so when my pet sitter couldn't stay with him I'd send him to boarding, which they'd transport him to their Roxbury location. It was like pulling teeth to get any updates on how he was doing. They don't answer their texts sometimes for a full day. I had to beg them to finally start uploading a report card just to know how he was doing or if he was ok. The lack of communication alone should have been a big enough red flag to stop sending him here, along with the stress he seemed to be under upon drop off and pick up. In January I sent him for boarding for a work trip and a couple days after I picked him up he got incredibly sick. He ended up having to be hospitalized for a couple of days and I paid almost $10k in vet bills. They said he likely caught something from another dog. Several months later, again after a work trip he now won't let any of my dog walkers approach him with his prong collar. I don't know if maybe someone at the Roxbury location handled him aggressively with his collar, but he's 5 years old and has been wearing this collar since he was a year and a half old. We have never had issues with it until I started sending him here. I have no idea if something happened to him at that location since their communication is abysmal. A couple of days after this, I saw a Facebook thread of a woman who sent their dog here for a simple nail trim and they gave her pup back with a popped blood vessel in its eye and said they had no video footage to provide when she asked. Everyone in the comments said that a popped blood vessel in the eye is a sign of strangulation, and people started sharing their terrible experiences about this place. This would make sense why my pup doesn't want anything near his neck anymore. I'm not sure why there aren't many google reviews, but there were hundreds of comments of people sharing their unsettling stories here. On top of the financial stress this has put me under, I've also had to completely change my work schedule to walk my dog since he doesn't trust any walkers anymore. I now have him in a harness and have been doing more training with him, but I've had to cancel all of my travel for work because of this. I've never had any behavioral issues with my dog until sending him here.

I was anxious about establishing a new routine after so many years (and with such a quirky pup lol), but Mary was so professional and communicative about her business and services. It was super easy to set up a meet and greet and just go from there! I love the fact that requests are run through a simple, easy app. It provides great flexibility and helps avoid any miscommunications about scheduling. Plus, the photos and the notes from the walks are highlights of my day! And, of course, there is always the option to reach out directly for ad-hoc / special circumstances as well. Every member of the team maintains that same level of professionalism and care. Talking with other dog owners in the neighborhood, you hear that not every walking service is as kind or safe with animals. It just reaffirmed over and over that Hounds in the Hub was absolutely the right choice. My girl, Blue, is sociable, but often aloof. I ended up going for the next choice which was a little further than I wanted but the reviews were good so I gave them a shot and boy am I glad! This shop is run by a sweet woman and her husband. They work super hard and do all the grooming themselves. Ozzi is only 18 pounds but he is a little tough. He's a darling little baby who's so sweet to me but super scared of strangers so he can be difficult to manage and easy out (I am unsure of his background but I presume he had some sort of abuse history...poor baby). He now has major attachment issues too so he's terrified whenever I leave him. I explained all of over the phone and they were very understanding. I took my dog in and when the male groomer came out I told him my dog doesn't do well with men. He was very kind and brough out his wife who proceeded to take my boy. I was hesitant but I let him go. only 1.5 hours later I got a call and my dog was ready to go! He was SO cute and had an adorable little scarf tied around his neck. His haircut was perfect and exactly what I wanted. He gave them a hard time especially when they tried to groom his behind (which he is really protective of) but despite all of this they did not charge me a "behavior" fee like some other places. They were SO kind and I really appreciate them taking the time to groom my skittish pup. I plan to be back as soon as possible!
