I'm the person who doesn't like to leave bad review, but this time I had to. I always go to this store, the workers can recognize me I'm pretty sure. So I ordered my food, they brought my food over. And I started to have it, it wasn't half of my plate, I found a hair. And I wanted to make sure if it's mine. And hair was thick and either dark red or dark brown. Couldn't really tell, but since my hair pink and not thick at all, I was sure that wasn't mine. And I didn't wanna make a huge deal -even though it's a big deal- I went to the counter, and silently try to tell the situation. There were 2 employees, the both of them looked at me like so what. I felt like I should yelled in the middle of the store to get attention. And she told me If it's my hair. And I just showed my hair, does it look like my hair? Why do I put my hair not even in middle of my meal, and why don't I try to make a huge deal, or why don't I request my money back, and for God sake, this is not my first visit! And the exact words she said " so, you don't wanna eat?" I wanna eat the hell of that hair, hell yea! A normal human being could've figured that out by than, would do, " yes ma'am, let me change it" But instead, they were trying to be convinced If I could eat my food with the hair in it! And finally the other worker came over and she immediately changed it, the other girl still looked like she couldn't figure what was the wrong out. Moving on, the girl who took my plate over, brought over new plate with definitely less than whatever I had in my plate. I didn't care about that detail, bur there were potatoes in my plate, and she didn't bring potatoes at all, and I reminded nicely, she said she's sorry and came with the plate which was potatoes in. And for all those things I didn't request my money back, still trying to give a credit to them, I went to counter again to get a desert which is called Britz. So I asked how much was it, the other girl told me 2,99. And I said so I want one, also regular tea. That girl was bringing me my stuff, and the girl who help me to get my plate and bring my new plate over was on the cashier. She told me it costed 13 something $. And I said why? I just got Britz and tea, how could it possibly be 13$? She said other food you got. And I said in my mind" what the heck" , and to her " I paid, don't you remember my meal costed 12,50$ , and I gave 20$, so you asked me 2,50$ for give me 10$ back. She was confused, and I try to convince her! I mean what the literally heck! There is a camera behind her, how could I possibly lie? Also you should not charge for the food a hair in it! How are they running this business with unknowing employees?! And I was still nice! I didn't have time that moment, but I will try to go tomorrow to talk to owner or manager. If she/he doesn't help me, I will put that in here as well! So anyone who wanna go there should consider about all these. read more

Yes this place was rebranded to target the new kinds of people occupying the neighborhood - not going to resort to the H word here. It's getting pretty hard for old businesses to survive in Greenpoint, so I can't blame them. Yes it's fucking weird that a large portion of their food isn't refrigerated, but I'm from Eastern Europe and it's kind of a thing. Pretty sure alcoholism and the unfathomable sadness of living there kills most of us before we ever get food poisoning. Vegetarian stuff cabbage (x2) - awesome Kale salad - good but has very little kale in it. More of a cabbage salad. Pickle soup - awesome I also got stuffed chicken breast and mushroom soup that I have yet to try, and all of that together was around $20. There are a million Polish delis and bakeries in Greenpoint. At many of these places, the owners have been preparing this traditional homemade food for ages and know what they're doing. Polka Dot is not one of those places. They have a pretentious hipster marketing scheme to appeal to the neighborhood, but the food is ordinary and served cold after sitting out all day, and the service feels entitled. I was on my way to another restaurant next door when I stumbled upon this cute little Polish place on Manhattan Ave. that looks like a country kitchen on the inside. There's a wide range of Polish food and the staff was friendly and patient when describing what each of the items were. The food is sold by weight at different prices depending on which dish it is. If you like mushrooms, you should try the mushroom pasta which was very flavorful. The cooked cabbage and potato salad were good as well. There's water and glassware at each table. I also love the fact that they have a coffee window outside the store - adorable! I'll be back to try their desserts. read more

This is the only place in Greenpoint that seems truly authentic to me. It reminds me of my Mom's cooking in Poland. The vegetarian cabbage rolls are made with bulgar and are delicious. I also tried their Zurek which is the traditional fermented rye soup, several side salads as well as their pierogi. Everything is freshly made and tastes great. For dessert try their apple crumble cake or szarlotka, which is not too sweet, made with meringue and just a touch of cinnamon. read more

It is a tiny little shop that sells freshly cooked Polish food like you would get at my grandma's house. It really is like getting a family meal. I was truly happy seeing the new and so needed in the area food place offering homemade meals to stay and to go. Unfortunately, already on two occasions, I was disappointed because the food I took out was not fresh. On 12/24, I bought Lazanki that were spoiled - I had to throw it out and on 1/8 Bigos was fermented thus not edible. The food is kept in the warmers all day long and then apparently reheated several times. Chicken cutlets were tough. Ukrainian Borscht - very average. I will not buy any food there again. read more

Wow. I just scarfed down a cabbage roll and vegetable soup which was nothing short of amazing. Really affordable and delicious home cooking. I've been shopping here for a year now. I need Polish food to treat my suicidal tendencies. I have come to the conclusion that Polka Dot is New York's leading food place (and mental health clinic). They have the largest soup selection anywhere - every time I visit I find a new soup I never heard of (yesterday it was spinach soup). I come from Cobble Hill with a cart and shop for a week. I make purchases for $120 - $250 and the food lasts me 10 days - 2 weeks and doesn't spoil. They have a fresh vegetable salad, which is very refreshing, and a wide selection of other salads, so you can eat very healthy there. When the weather gets a little warmer they have cold summer borshch (chlodnik, cold beet soup with buttermilk and dill) - AFAIK you can't get it anywhere else in NY State. Same for their fried bass and several other items. They have a growing clientele, they can barely keep up with the demand, so the food is always fresh, which wasn't always the case when they opened. Their cakes are heaven. I am so addicted to their stuffed cabbage I come from my office in Bushwick during lunch break almost every day and purchase just enough for dinner (5 pieces), though when I shop in bulk on weekends I buy enough for 2 weeks. read more

Delicious! I got stuffed cabbage and pierogi to go and they were both great. Almost as good as my great aunt made and that's really saying a lot because she made pierogi like a machine with all of the other church ladies. We go to Greenpoint a lot but are always pressed for time on the way home because of our baby--so it's great to have a hot bar option instead of a sit down restaurant. The food is really good there. Good place for a lunch or take out. You can see the fresh cooked food from the window when passing through.

This Place is slightly overpriced because you can go to any polish store down the street and get a better polish meal for less. Another problem is they make u buy everything separately. You can't buy a meal all in one like at the other polish locations. My pork cutlet was cold. Chicken soup was greasy. The soup is pre made and put into plastic containers. So most likely they warm it up in the plastic in the microwave. The cucumber salad was good but 5.50 for a little container. It's only cucumber and sour cream. It shouldn't be so expensive. What makes Greenpoint unique are the wonderful Polish bakeries and food stores where the prices are low and the quality is high. Polka Dot is among the best; the atmosphere is charming, the servers always pleasant the offerings superb and the prices low. Their soups, especially the Ukrainian borscht, chicken noodle, mushroom are fantastic. Their vegetable babka, stuffed cabbage, meat pies and salads are terrific. Their fruit and cheese blintzes delicious. They have plenty of vegetarian offerings as well. You can enjoy a full meal here for under $12! Try doing that anywhere in New North Brooklyn. read more

I eat here A LOT and I've eaten at most of the Polish restaurants in the neighborhood and this is definitely competitive (not as good as Karczma but better than Christina's). I do eat in sometimes and take out other times. It's definitely no frills, but tasty and relatively inexpensive. The rose jam donuts are delicious. I will say that customer service is not their strong point. Sometimes you can stand at the counter for 5 minutes, with no one else there, because they are chatting (and you know they've seen you). One is especially unrefined and attitudinal. A brat, really. A couple are nice and more accommodating. But, not heinous enough yet to not go there, especially when I don't feel like cooking. Are you so was the worst experience I have ever had restaurant; I am blind and also African-American and I believe I was discriminated against; completely ignored for over five minutes and walked out but was talk back into the restaurant by an older gentleman outside. Waitress was extremely rude and acted like she did not want to serve me, took my order and didn't even offer a glass of water! When I was given the check, I asked about the tip line and she was in such a hurry to get rid of me that she repeated the total and therefore was not given a tip.
