Love this place! I always get their fish tacos but have also enjoyed their aguachiles, shrimp tacos, tostadas, and ceviche. The tacos are filling, very flavorful, and packed with filling. I particularly appreciate that they're not super greasy or oily. One order of fish tacos comes with two and that is enough for one meal for me (the fish tacos are pretty big!). The positive reviews on here are legit. We were curious as to why Pola's was receiving high marks and after looking at all the photos, I really wanted to try their food. My husband and I were carpooling home from work and on the 10. We decided to grab a bite to eat before heading to the house. I remembered I had bookmarked Pola's and it was the perfect opportunity as we were nearby. They are located on the east side of Central Ave, north of Arrow Hwy. They took over where Quizno's used to be in the same plaza as Dolce Bistro & Bakery. Their menu is fairly simple and primarily serve seafood (no rice, beans, sides etc.). They serve menudo on the weekends. During our first visit, I ordered the Pola's Mix ($14.50) because you have to order the item that is named after the restaurant, right?? It had ceviche, shrimp, octopus, crab, tomato, onion and cucumber. It's served with tostadas. Note that you should put mayo on the tostadas; that's the way you gotta eat it! My husband got the shrimp cocktail (Coctel de Camaron $10.50). They do not offer alcohol at this time and have canned or glass sodas/drinks. The shrimp cocktail comes plain so that you are able to flavor it yourself by adding ketchup or hot sauce in it. I have to say, everything was SO fresh and we left satisfied without that heavy feeling. 2 weeks later, our friend comes to help my husband with his car and took him out to eat afterwards. We are lucky Pola's opens at 10AM so we came in for brunch. This time I ended up ordering the shrimp cocktail and both my husband and his friend got Pola's Mix. We finished all our food and we agree the customer service here is superb and they make you feel you are eating at their house or something. They are a family owned and run business and you can really tell they are passionate about their business. Check their chalkboard for specials. They also cater! The restaurant is very clean and service was great. We ordered to go and it didn't take very long. However, my husband and I agreed that we weren't impressed with what we ordered. We got a shrimp cocktail and two shrimp ceviche tostadas. Let me just say that I absolutely love shrimp ceviche and it's one of my favorite things to eat. This ceviche was just ok. It seemed to have a ton of tomato and not much else going on. The cocktail tasted very plain and to my surprise, had no tomato juice. We had to add a lot of ketchup, lemon, chile, and some salt to make it taste better. Giving this place 5 stars because it checks all the boxes when it comes to a FIVE STAR RESTAURANT... we walked in and were immediately greeted by the owner. We love going to places where we are immediately acknowledged and helped, it makes dining so much more memorable. The interior design is so cute and well decorated. The ambiance is truly what pulled the whole place together. The owner took our order. He recommended all his favorites to us, told us how we can switch things up and get creative with our dishes, and even told us the background of his restaurant. This has got to be the worst mariscos place we've ever been to. Not only was it bad, it was disgusting. The shrimp cocktail had no tomato sauce it was a clear bitter lemon flavor. Had been here before, but apparently did not review it prior to this visit. What can I really say that the food doesn't say for itself? I got one shrimp taco, one fish taco and a tostada de ceviche de pescado. Tostada came in at about $4.50 and was probably almost two tostadas worth. Perfectly marinated in lime juice, didn't need to put anything in there to adjust the flavor, other than the salsa. My tacos were perfectly fried, not over breaded or over cabbaged and well seasoned. Other than the crema and salsa, didn't have to doctor. My wife had a campechana and my sister in law had either the Pola's or Reyna's which only differs by one having cilantro and the other not having it and both were well served, but both needed a little doctoring. As we are not quite out of the pandemic, my wife's campechana came in the same kind of container that my sister in laws did, which if I may suggest, should have been in a cup container instead of the rectangular one it came in as her campechana was a cocktail, not a ceviche. Getting back to the flavor, ketchup and more lime were needed to get it to where she wanted it. My sister in law said hers needed more lime as well. What I enjoyed most is the attentiveness to service. Both young men working the counter were polite, professional and friendly, and very helpful. Misleading ratings.. a bit disappointed since I was brought here by the reviews, but the food wasn't impressive. Ordered the shrimp cocktail and came with more veggies than the medium shrimp. Stopped by Polas while driving by and ordered the ceviche de pescado and ceviche de camaron. The portions were pretty large and prices were decent. The ceviche had a good taste, but the ceviche de pescado was a little too salty for my liking. The order comes with a salsa, tostadas & Mayo. The shrimp and fish are ground up pretty small & I'd personally prefer a bit of a larger piece. A little gem tucked away in a shopping center, this place has a simple menu nothing fancy about this place other than the food, it's simplicity and delicious at its best, I'm a fan of small menus, the portions are properly portioned nothing is overpowering just enough shrimp and veggies for the cocktail and I recommend the shrimp and fish ceviche plate,plenty to go around. The cocktail's come original with just clam or shrimp stock you have to dress it up to your liking with ketchup, tapatio and lemon, mix it all up and enjoy. This place is an awesome local place from the Agua Frescas to the micheladas, they also have menudo but I already have my menudo and pozole place for that ( check out my review on that)(the pozole place) the prices are post Covid like everywhere else, it's like a fast food place you walk up place your order sit down and they'll bring it to you.
