I go to this location of Poki One N Half about once a month as it is close to a gym that I attend. Poke One N Half is one of my favorite poke establishments as the fish and toppings are always fresh and the staff are professional and welcoming. This location has plenty of parking in the evenings, though I do not recommend the parking lot during the weekday lunch hour. I have always gotten my bowls to-go at this location, but the size of the restaurant is quite large with plenty of seating. It always has been very clean when I have been there. This is a typical poke place where you choose your bowl size, base (salad, white or brown rice, or quinoa), then your protein, and then a variety of toppings. Here, I like that they don't charge extra for avocado and they are good about adding a little extra of certain of the other toppings. I usually ask for some extra sauces to go with my bowls. Service is quick and easy. They used to have masago, and I'm definitely disappointed that they no longer have it. All in all, this is a fast and healthy place to get a weeknight meal. read more

When Poki One N Half first appeared in the SD market, it was one of the better poki bowl chains in terms of quality and quantity for the price. You could get five protein scoops for a large bowl that cost less than $13. Fast forward many years later, and the prices have risen dramatically from inflation and labor costs. A small bowl will now set you back $16.50. This Clairemont Mesa Blvd location at the Ruffin Village has a very large dining area compared to the one on Villa La Jolla Dr near UCSD. The interior was bright and clean like all of their shops. Parking was plentiful in the plaza lot. Despite the "shrink-flation," one aspect that remained the same was that none of the toppings incurred a surcharge. Some places will ding you for an add-on like avocado. I chose white rice from the list of five bases for my small bowl. Salmon and tuna were my selections from the 11 kinds of proteins. Original poki was my choice of sauce from the seven varieties. For the toppings, I requested about 3/4 of the available offerings. The quality of the two fishes was good as I didn't detect any strange odor. The sauce was non-spicy and probably made up of ponzu. Ultimately, the bowl was stuffed to the rim and more than satisfied my appetite. They used to offer poki burritos, but I didn't see that listed anymore. Instead, udon and rice balls were new items on the menu. I think you can get even better fish quality at some of the independent poki businesses in the area. Poki One N Half still does a good job of balancing quality and value though so I gave a four star rating for my recent visit. read more

Poking one n half is a pretty quick Chipotle style poke place with fast service and consistency. They always fill their bowls to the top and the toppings are great. The seating area is pretty large but can get messy from previous guest. The staff are pretty helpful and can help clean an area if needed. I have tried so many poke places, and no matter what I always come back to Poki One N half. I have been to this location several times already and I do like that it's feels more spacious than the Kearny Mesa location. The fish, I have yet to have the fishy fish smell, or any discoloration in terms of oxidation seen. So far so good. I do like the service, I generally like my sauces on the side versus mixed and no one have ever gave me a hard time when they start putting the fish in the tin bowl to get it mixed, and then they have to switch. I do like that they don't charge you for asking for two sauce versus one, since I like variety. What's not to love about choosing your own meal? Portions are definitely big and if we just portion control we can definitely share and lower the cost. With prices nowadays, I think sharing is caring. read more

Food & Service : My husband and I ordered large 4 protein bowls and bless the angels working behind the counter. I have numerous allergies including a gluten allergy and I told the Saint of an employee he was very knowledgeable about which foods contained gluten& or my other allergies & ensured safety protocols to make sure no cross contamination occurred. He also went and got gluten free soy sauce for me. Whilst waiting the sweet young lady of a saint ensured she place gluten free soy sauce packets to go for me. It was our first time ordering so I tend to get anxious and stall on indecisiveness but they were so patient and walked us thru the process it's basically the same concept of the chipotle place for a poki bowl. Ambiance: the place was immaculate, the restrooms were clean. The staff were neat organized and a+ for presentation. The food was beyond delicious it was devoured. I ordered spicy tuna, regular tuna, octopus, salmon and scallops in my bowl. It's nice that you can just half brown rice and half white rice. They also have salad options as well. I added edamame, seaweed salad, ginger, and crab tossed together in the house spicy sauce with spicy mayo, a small dollop of wasabi and a lil ponzu action! I was bummed out that they were out of masago though. My bowl was topped with garlic chips, sesame seeds and furikake. Everything was what I expected it to be. I got the poki sauce, and I this was the only thing that was disappointing as I felt that there was not enough sauce, and the sauce did not have much flavor after I mixed it all together. They also had spicy mayo on the side that people could pick up in cups, but it tasted only like Sriracha. The bowl was pretty filling for a small as there was enough food to last me another meal.
