Service was great. Food was massive portions ! Parking on the street was easy to come by. For the food I've had better but they're known for their noodles and we didn't get any sadly

Between the ramen, tempura don, nabeyaki udon, and bento box...the only hit was the tempura don. Everything else we ordered was mediocre at best. The portions and quality didn't justify the $20 price tag. The shrimp tempura pieces are super tiny, but at least the batter was light and crispy. Unfortunately there are much better options in the area. This would be a pass for me in the future.

Great spot for a late night snack/dinner or if you want something quick and cheap. Parking can be a bit difficult. They have so many dishes ranging from sushi, curry, ramen, udon, etc.

Fumi is so much fun and wonderful!!! Great personality and warm hospitality!!! Enjoyed our conversation with her while she served great Japanese cuisine with our friends visiting from Hawaii. Great specials when you order a large beer/sake. The restaurant is clean and has a great vibe to enjoy your meal. We keep coming back for the great service and delicious food. The Original Chopstix is da best!!!

I have been coming here for years and when my diverse group of co-workers was looking for a spot to get together and eat, I knew this was a good choice due to their amazing variety. Came here with a party of 6 and we got seated immediately. Food 4/5: I got the special entree chicken katsu which comes with a side of miso soup and rice. This is always my go to as it is always perfectly crunchy and the miso soup just heals the soul. Only a 4/5 because I tried my friend's udon and it was super salty. Service 5/5: The service here is always great and we were always checked on. They truly take customer service to a high standard.

I have been coming here since I was in college. This spot has been opened for 30+ years and I know why they are. Food is always consistent and tastes home cooked. Pricing is extremely reasonable and portions are large. The staff is extremely nice and the setting feels like a home style Japanese restaurant. I personally always get the mabo and curry combo. No other place makes Japanese style mabo tofu in San Diego. In addition pretty much everything else on the menu is pretty solid. I am going to continue to come back here!

Went here for dinner cause felt like sushi and ramen. Off Convoy. Parking is small so be patient looking for one. The inside is also a little small for dining. Sushi is good and the miso ramen hit the spot. The chicken teriyaki bento box was ok. I felt the chicken could have had more sauce and flavor but overall it was decent.

One of my favorite ramen places in San Diego. I've been going to it for many years. The staff are always friendly and attentive. The furniture has gone through a few renovations throughout the years too to keep it comfy. Though no longer on the menu, I still order the wakame (seaweed) ramen and they'll still make it. Their shoyu broth is my favorite, it is full of umami flavor, maybe from mushrooms. Their wonton chasyu ramen is pretty good too. Also like their mabo ramen, okayko don, curry, stir fry veggies, vegetable tempura, yakisoba. Some differences from other ramen places I should mention: - their egg is a hardboiled egg, not a soft boiled egg - their chasyu is lean meat, not the fatty ones. But I like this more because sometimes the fatty ones are too fatty.

We had Crunchy, Dragon, Ex-Boyfriend, Lemon and Gogo Rolls Deluxe Chasyu Ramen Mabo and Curry Rice with Chicken Katsu Kimchi Fried Rice Parking can be challenging as it is the same complex as Happy Lemon. There are very limited disabled parking spots often occupied. There is additional parking in the back of Happy Lemon. It's our go to place for Japanese comfort food. We recommend everything we listed above except for the Kimchi fried rice.

Me and my buddies are big fans of Japanese cuisine and we were huge fans of this place, the chicken katsu was great! We also got some edamame and gyoza which were fantastic and our waitress was awesome and they had melon soda which is my favorite and reminds me of when I visited Japan. Will definitely come again! Food was bussin!

I've had a lot of ramen over the years and was really looking forward to this one. The good first, the ramen arrived hot, which is always a win for delivery, and the broth itself was excellent. Rich, flavorful, and exactly what you want when you're in the mood for comfort food. That part absolutely delivered. We ordered the Hakata Tonkotsu, and while the flavor was there, a few things fell a bit short. The noodles, for me, didn't feel like that elevated, restaurant-quality ramen you expect. They leaned more toward a packaged noodle texture rather than that fresh, springy bite you typically get at a higher-end ramen spot. The pork belly was also a bit surprising. Instead of those thick, melt-in-your-mouth slices you usually see, it came as two very thin pieces that honestly resembled bacon more than traditional chashu. Not bad, just not what you expect at this price point. We did ask for spice in one order, and instead of it being incorporated, it came on the side as a chili powder. That said, it actually turned out to be a nice touch since everyone could customize their heat level. Toppings overall felt a little sparse. Not a ton of sprouts or extras, and for the price, you usually expect a bit more going on in the bowl. Now, the standout surprise, the gyoza. We ordered four orders (seven per order), and they disappeared fast. Crispy, flavorful, and honestly the favorite of the night. Definitely worth adding to your order. Overall, I'd give it: ***** for flavor (the broth really carries it) *** for ingredient quality and portion/value It's still a solid option, especially if you're ordering in and want something warm and satisfying. Just not quite at the level of some of the more standout ramen spots. And don't skip the gyoza.

I got the shoyu ramen, chashu rice, and a cold oolong tea. The ramen was fine in texture and al dente. The broth was flavorful, without being oversalted. The serving was a bit smaller than what we are used to when we order ramen but overall we enjoyed our dinner and our 9 year old gave it a 6/4 stars. It is a really cute place, feels authentically Japanese inside, but also authentically small, so I recommend reservations for a larger group: we were a party of 7 on a Saturday evening around 5:30 with no reservation and we had a wait of around 40 minutes. My husband and I have been here several times before as it is both mine and my husband's favorite ramen eatery in San Diego. This is the best ramen in San Diego. After going on my own little ramen crawl around SD, this is the top of them all, bar none. If you really are craving something close to ramen in Japan, try this place. Everything is fantastic here but my favorite of all the ramen choices is the Red King (the spicy tonkotsu). The Black King is also good (squid ink) and has a nice umami punch to it with a good helping of garlic to seal the deal. The karage (fried chicken) is great as well. The texture is perfect and I think the sauce provided really added to the overall bite. The gyoza is also fantastic as well and they provide a dipping sauce that is not the standard dip but something better. If I recall, it is a lightly sweet pear-esque sauce with the consistency almost like apple sauce. It's very very good, don't knock it till you try it! The service is always quick and top-tier. They always have a jug of water with lemon slices and cups available to use at any time. Seating is both indoors and outdoors. Inside it can be a little cramped if you have a large group but outside has full tables next to the pond which is quite nice. This is not a traditional restaurant so there are a few things to keep in mind: 1) There are no reservations. 2) There is a dedicated queue outside and you need to wait in that to line to be seated. 3) They will not take you to be seated until your entire party is readily available so just be cognizant of that. 4) Everyone in your party will receive a red marker and a paper form to fill out your individual orders while you are in this line. If it is your first time, check the Chef Recommendation box at the top to make it easier. Sides are at the bottom (most ramen do not include an egg so if you want an egg make sure to mark it). 5) Your party may be seated at the same table as another party and share the space. If this is an issue for you, sit outside. 6) You get your receipt from your sever and pay at the register.

The gyoza on the other hand are decent and very small. I will definitely be coming back for more ramen.

That said, the waitress we had was very kind and attentive, and the food was decent, so we decided to give the place another try. After a long day at Legoland, we returned around 6pm and I had called ahead to make a reservation for four. The person on the phone took my name and number, so I assumed we were all set. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't even full, but no one greeted us for several minutes. Eventually, a waiter came over, and when I mentioned our reservation, he seemed confused and said they don't take reservations for parties under six. I tried to explain that someone had taken my information over the phone, but he interrupted me multiple times and didn't let me finish. He then walked over to another group behind us and asked if they were there first, even though we had arrived before them, which was frustrating. We were eventually told there was space available at the bar seating (bar stools) instead of a table. At that point, we were tired and hungry, so we accepted. Unfortunately, the service didn't improve. The waiter seemed rushed and disorganized--he couldn't remember our order and had to ask us which dish belonged to who when the food came out. As for the food, it was okay but not memorable. My ramen was just average--the pork was dry and the egg was overcooked. Overall, the food is decent, but the service really needs improvement. This particular waiter clearly needs more training, or possibly a different role, as the level of service did not meet basic expectations for a restaurant. Our second visit left a bad impression, especially since it was our last night in San Diego. Sadly, we won't be coming back.
