I loved the creativity of the dishes! For instance, I've never had a adobo in my ramen before. It was fun to try, and while I liked the savory-ness of it, I think perhaps it was a bit too heavy for me. The vibe of the restaurant is interesting, but in a good way! For instance, the bathroom gives Dave bar with graffiti, but also has nice amenities like a bad day, and a hand dryer attached directly to the faucet. It seems like a fun night time vibe! Service was nice and seemed pretty chill.

Ramen was average compare to what else is available in sd. Inside is very nicely decorated but super small, felt super claustrophobic in there especially sitting up stairs. The food came out super fast tho and service was quick. The Bao buns there were also average. Staff were super friendly.

Quick and friendly service. Casual izakaya type spot with cool retro futurist decor. The shoyu ramen was good and affordable. My only complaint was the meat was just pure fat, certainly flavorful but not my taste. The beer was ok, a bit flat though.

As soon as I stepped inside, the lights brought me back to Tokyo. Cute ambiance. Small setting, esp upstairs. Food was good. I had ordered the Tonkatsu ramen, & the crispy chicken Bao bun as an app. Great flavors!! Although I wouldn't say it's authentic, but still yummy. Service was good too. She was friendly.

This place was super cool and laid back, very cool atmosphere and great lounge areas, we sat upstairs which over looked the whole restaurant. The food was good, beef gyoza was a hit especially with the sauce. The Belly of the Beast ramen was alright, the oxtail was really made the dish, just felt the broth didn't have a lot of flavor unfortunately. The drink was great, nice whiskey fizz kind of vibe! Overall was a nice quick stop in for a quick meal, will be back if ever craving ramen again!

Overview: Affordable ramen, difficult parking, cool atmosphere and decor, friendly staff ---- Belly of the Beast Ramen $15 - comes with tonkatsu broth, soft boiled egg, oxtail dumplings, and hoisin glazed short rib - the dumplings were very mushy and I couldn't distinguish that they were supposed to oxtail - the short rib was great and so was the flavor of the broth Meat Eaters Bento Box $15 - flavors were good but not that much meat for being a "meat eaters" bento box - comes with chashu pork belly over rice, 3 beef gyoza, kimchi, and cucumber salad ---- Notes: - parking is pretty difficult, expect to pay for parking and then walking a few blocks - flavor of food was mostly good (the only thing that was a miss for my was the oxtail dumplings) - prices are pretty affordable and good enough portions - service was friendly, seemed to be short staffed tho, only one waitress handling the entire restaurant on a Saturday afternoon - the neon lights and the decor was really cool and I think would look even better at night ---- Overall: the food was pretty good for the price, I'm deterred to be coming back again because of it being located in Little Italy parking can be stressful and competitive, really cool atmosphere tho

Stopped by this place with a friend after Comic-Con. Place has a very nice neon Blade Runner vibe with an outdoor dining option. May or may not have pretended to be Decker while eating. Would encourage eating here at night for the lights. T he staff is very friendly and quick. You order at the counter and then get seated. Had the Belly of Beast which had a hearty tonkotsu broth, soft boiled egg, & delicious dumplings and ribs. Also had a Nashville Bao which had the right amount of spice. Price wise, it's at the middle range. Its price is above a bowl from Tokyo Central but below more boujee places.

This was always one of my favorite Ramen spots, so we decided to bring some family here when they were visiting. I did notice the menu changed a bit, as they did not offer some of the add-ins that they used to like some of the mushrooms i like. I ordered the underbelly Ramen which is my go-to. It doesn't come with much other than the noodles meet a few scallions, an egg, and bean sprouts. I noticed the flavor did not seem to be as good as previous times that I have ordered, I am not sure if this was a one-off, or just how things are now. I do wish it came with more in it as far as vegetables, without having to add them as an extra. The portions are very large, which is nice. We all definitely had leftovers to take home. One issue you will definitely have is parking, but anyone who frequents this area already knows that. We went during one of the farmers market weekends and made sure to come very early to shop the market, and kill enough time until the restaurant opened. I'm not sure I'd still call this my favorite Ramen place, but still it's pretty good. The ramen does not have much of a kick to it, but you can ask for different sauces to give it more heat.

Underbelly will always be one of my favorite ramen spots in SD! From the ambiance, to the food and service, this place is great. The underbelly ramen with a side of beef gyoza is always my go to. The flavor is so rich and it's a pretty large serving as well. The gyozas are always crispy and juicy. I love the ambiance as well. You have the choice to eat inside or outside and it's just steps away from the little Italy farmers market. Not to mentions their choice of music is always great too! I really love this place and will always recommend it for some fast and delicious ramen.

I came to Underbelly on a Saturday afternoon. It was difficult to find parking, but that was to be expected since it's located in Little Italy. We ordered the Belly of the Beast ramen and Meat Lover's Bento box. The bento box came with pork belly and rice, gyoza, kimchi, and cucumber salad. The cucumber salad was soo good, and so was the pork and rice. The gyoza tasted like the frozen ones you can buy at the store, and the kimchi was bland. The ramen was also on the blander side, but the oxtail dumplings were a nice touch.

If you're looking for a ramen spot, you probably wouldn't think to look in little Italy, but this place is legit! Side note...Parking In the area is insane so good luck finding street parking. Try a garage or paid parking lot. Alright so the place is not your typical ramen spot. You come to the counter and order your food and they have bar seating as well as super cool tables outside. The menu is unique to say the least. I tried the chicken ramen which was really good. Had a spicy miso broth and shredded chicken confit. Super flavorful and lots of toppings. My wife tried the pork belly and shredded pork ramen which was fire! The meat had a birria feel to it but was super salty(in a good way). Not too spicy and the prices were pretty good for the unique menu they had. Overall super cool vibes. If you're in the area check it out!!!

The vibe at this place is so cool! Its very Japanese and somewhat futuristic. When you arrive you will find menus on the counter, once you are ready to order you go to the cashier. She will give you your drinks and a number placard for your table. If there is enough space she will give you different options of where to sit. The food was fantastic. One of the best ramen I have ever had. The wings where so crunchy and yummy and the edamame was as expected, yummers! My whiskey drink was strong but I love heavy pours. I did ask the cashier if they had soju since I saw ramune in their menu and unfortunately they dont sell that. Overall the place is excellent...its perfect for a date night or even an evening with friends.

Receipt of my order with the unauthorized $9.26 tip included for to-go t order.

I've had a lot of ramen over the years and was really looking forward to this one. The good first, the ramen arrived hot, which is always a win for delivery, and the broth itself was excellent. Rich, flavorful, and exactly what you want when you're in the mood for comfort food. That part absolutely delivered. We ordered the Hakata Tonkotsu, and while the flavor was there, a few things fell a bit short. The noodles, for me, didn't feel like that elevated, restaurant-quality ramen you expect. They leaned more toward a packaged noodle texture rather than that fresh, springy bite you typically get at a higher-end ramen spot. The pork belly was also a bit surprising. Instead of those thick, melt-in-your-mouth slices you usually see, it came as two very thin pieces that honestly resembled bacon more than traditional chashu. Not bad, just not what you expect at this price point. We did ask for spice in one order, and instead of it being incorporated, it came on the side as a chili powder. That said, it actually turned out to be a nice touch since everyone could customize their heat level. Toppings overall felt a little sparse. Not a ton of sprouts or extras, and for the price, you usually expect a bit more going on in the bowl. Now, the standout surprise, the gyoza. We ordered four orders (seven per order), and they disappeared fast. Crispy, flavorful, and honestly the favorite of the night. Definitely worth adding to your order. Overall, I'd give it: ***** for flavor (the broth really carries it) *** for ingredient quality and portion/value It's still a solid option, especially if you're ordering in and want something warm and satisfying. Just not quite at the level of some of the more standout ramen spots. And don't skip the gyoza.

My husband and I have been here several times before as it is both mine and my husband's favorite ramen eatery in San Diego. This is the best ramen in San Diego. After going on my own little ramen crawl around SD, this is the top of them all, bar none. If you really are craving something close to ramen in Japan, try this place. Everything is fantastic here but my favorite of all the ramen choices is the Red King (the spicy tonkotsu). The Black King is also good (squid ink) and has a nice umami punch to it with a good helping of garlic to seal the deal. The karage (fried chicken) is great as well. The texture is perfect and I think the sauce provided really added to the overall bite. The gyoza is also fantastic as well and they provide a dipping sauce that is not the standard dip but something better. If I recall, it is a lightly sweet pear-esque sauce with the consistency almost like apple sauce. It's very very good, don't knock it till you try it! The service is always quick and top-tier. They always have a jug of water with lemon slices and cups available to use at any time. Seating is both indoors and outdoors. Inside it can be a little cramped if you have a large group but outside has full tables next to the pond which is quite nice. This is not a traditional restaurant so there are a few things to keep in mind: 1) There are no reservations. 2) There is a dedicated queue outside and you need to wait in that to line to be seated. 3) They will not take you to be seated until your entire party is readily available so just be cognizant of that. 4) Everyone in your party will receive a red marker and a paper form to fill out your individual orders while you are in this line. If it is your first time, check the Chef Recommendation box at the top to make it easier. Sides are at the bottom (most ramen do not include an egg so if you want an egg make sure to mark it). 5) Your party may be seated at the same table as another party and share the space. If this is an issue for you, sit outside. 6) You get your receipt from your sever and pay at the register.

After a long day at Legoland, we returned around 6pm and I had called ahead to make a reservation for four. The person on the phone took my name and number, so I assumed we were all set. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't even full, but no one greeted us for several minutes. Eventually, a waiter came over, and when I mentioned our reservation, he seemed confused and said they don't take reservations for parties under six. I tried to explain that someone had taken my information over the phone, but he interrupted me multiple times and didn't let me finish. He then walked over to another group behind us and asked if they were there first, even though we had arrived before them, which was frustrating. We were eventually told there was space available at the bar seating (bar stools) instead of a table. At that point, we were tired and hungry, so we accepted. Unfortunately, the service didn't improve. The waiter seemed rushed and disorganized--he couldn't remember our order and had to ask us which dish belonged to who when the food came out. As for the food, it was okay but not memorable. My ramen was just average--the pork was dry and the egg was overcooked. Overall, the food is decent, but the service really needs improvement. This particular waiter clearly needs more training, or possibly a different role, as the level of service did not meet basic expectations for a restaurant. Our second visit left a bad impression, especially since it was our last night in San Diego. Sadly, we won't be coming back.

On my most recent visit, I decided to try the Gyudon Bowl, and oh my goodness, it was such a delightful and comforting dish. So flavorful and perfectly prepared - definitely a new favorite of mine! Just a little heads-up though, finding parking in that area can sometimes be a bit of a challenge, but I promise you, the delicious food and fantastic experience are well worth the minor hassle. Hope you get a chance to check it out soon!

We were a party of 9, and Zoe and Brandon provided such wonderful customer service throughout our visit. They were incredibly patient, attentive, and helpful with our entire family. I also truly appreciated being allowed to order the kid's portion of Tonkotsu Ramen and substitute the fried chicken for steamed tofu. Thank you for being so accommodating! My parents and brother have dined here before, but this was my very first visit since I had not known about this ramen spot until recently. Safe to say, I'm happy I finally got to experience it. A huge thank you again to Zoe & Brandon for their superb hospitality and kindness!

We were huge fans of their chicken. Their ramen noodles were fresh and tasty. Hubs said the juicy fried chicken was very good! And he was so full afterwards because he had the chashu ramen. My son did have to run around outside with Dad for a bit ; as he can't stay still until food's made and in front of him. I appreciated that they have a kids set of plate and bowl along with scissors and plastic fork and spoon. We will be back.
