I am frustrated with their playing with portions of my bowl. I am small and always given significantly less than a guy next to me ordering the exactly same size bowl and choices. I understand their logic that some types of people don't eat much. But if they set and implement this policy, at least they have to cut down the prices for those who are getting significantly less. Not bad for a poke bowl! Poke restaurants have been all the rage lately and the SGV had been sorely missing good poke places. I'd never been to the original Flour+Tea though I've been meaning to for a while now. However, when I heard news of poke being served at their new location, I just had to try it. You can choose from 3 sizes, small, medium or large and opt for salad, rice or both. Then you choose your seafood, such as ahi tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, crab, shrimp and scallops. Add-ons are free and include a must-have seaweed salad, cucumbers, avocados and garlic chips. Lastly, you can choose spicy mayo and/or poke sauce. I chose the medium bowl, which gave me 3 scoops of seafood. The scoops looked small at first, but surprisingly, they added up to a lot of food and I couldn't quite finish everything. Though salmon is my favorite fish to eat raw, I was disappointed to find that they had run out of salmon for the day. Reading the rest of these reviews, it looks like other people encountered the same problem. Maybe stock up extra on salmon here since it's popular? I ended up choosing the ahi tuna, spicy tuna and crab. I'm not usually a fan of spicy tuna but this place had one of the best spicy tunas I've ever had. I've been to flour + tea previously, where I fell in love with their coffee milk tea--the perfect combination of coffee and tea. Unfortunately, this place doesn't carry the iced coffee but they do still have some of the same iced teas and pastries as the other location. This place does the California take on poke. I'm from Hawaii where a poke bowl doesn't contain all sorts of veggies, but I actually do like it with the added avocado and cucumbers! At poke mix you have the option of choosing your base, rice or salad, or doing half and half which I appreciated. The house poke sauce is reallyyy good. Apparently the chef is from HI! Better than North Shore Poke in Huntington Beach for sure! And possibly even a little better than spinfish on Colorado.. read more

Poke has noticeably been on the rise in this area. Comparing PokeMix to its competitors, I thought it was subpar. Came in for a poke bowl on a weekday evening and I was their only customer. There are three size options - small, medium, or large. You can pick rice (white or brown) or greens as your base. I asked for half and half but easy on the rice, thinking he'd give me more greens - nope! It was half greens and about a quarter of rice... Next comes the protein - salmon, tuna, spicy tuna, albacore, shrimp, or scallops. The large size comes with 4 scoops of protein and you can mix and match! Except the scoops are incredibly tiny, significantly smaller than my ice cream scoop at home! Finally, choose your add ons. I asked for seaweed, masago, cucumbers, edamame, and mango sriracha sauce on the side. Wasn't a big fan of the mango sriracha - it tasted like syrup mixed into hot sauce. I would prefer regular sriracha by far. For something that's considered large, I thought it was fairly small - it was about the size of a standard bowl from Spinfish. The fish wasn't bad in quality but bland in taste - I got salmon, tuna, and spicy tuna. The add ons weren't bad minus the mango sriracha. This poke restaurant is convenient for those who want a boba drink along with their meal, as it was originally a tea house before they added on the poke. They're better with the drinks, probably because they have more experience with them. Parking is a pain - only street meter parking available in this business district. 3.5 stars. Heard from our friends that a poke placed opened near Pasadena so my boyfriend and I decided to check it out. We arrived 45 minutes before closing and ordered right away. I ordered half spicy tuna and half ahi tuna. Also with fish eggs & ocean salad. The ahi tuna is chunks but doesn't have the sauce mixed within, it's poured on after they place it in your bowl. The spicy tuna is shredded. But overall, everything tasted fresh. The only thing I didn't like about this place is that the ahi tuna lacked flavor. It's probably because the sauce isn't mixed thoroughly with the tuna so it doesn't absorb much flavor. Also, when I was reaching half through my meal, the poke tasted funny and not as good - I realized that the poke was mixed with wasabi and I HATE wasabi. And this place doesn't give as much poke as I would like to (like the one in Buena Park) and we thought they would considering it was almost closing time. Final thoughts: it's probably the best poke place for Pasadena but not the best I've had in California. I'll probably give this place another chance - maybe going there earlier in the day would be a different experience. read more

Really really wanted to like it but, ya no. I lived in Hawai'i for over 7 years and move back a few years ago. Been on the hunt for good poke. The poke looked great at the shop but the taste was anther story to my huge disappointment. I really don't have high standards for poke on the mainland. The poke wasn't really cold, almost room temp, and I'm not sure if the brown rice wasn't cooked all the way or it was sitting for a while. Really was bummed, it looked so promising. Parking: street Payment: Cash or card Service: The server did her job but wasn't too friendly. The guy that rang me up wasn't too friendly either. They both didn't seem really into their jobs. Maybe I came at a bad time? Overall: I wouldn't be recommending this place but I'm willing to try it again in about 6 months in hopes that it improves. PokeMix by Flour + Tea is right around the corner from the office. I have been here several times with coworkers and it is a decent spot for a quick and light poke lunch. Pros: the fish is fresh and flavorful. They infuse their white rice with hibiscus which is unique, pretty and tasty. They have a huge selection of teas to choose from. I have tried the hot green milk tea and several lychee teas and all of them have been very good. Cons: parking is terrible unless you work at an office nearby - I would not bother coming here if it weren't for the fact I work walking distance away. They don't give you extra anything - which is pretty lame and very stingy. Tips: The tea comes too sweet so I recommend ordering it with less sugar than "regular". I like using the poke sauce mixed with the sweet ginger and hot chili. Ask for wasabi and ginger! They have it in the back. read more

Poke, welcome to SGV! I am in love with poke bowls ever since my trip to Oahu. It's basically sashimi with tasty toppings and seasoning, what's not to like? PokeMix did not disappoint, however, I do see some opportunities for them. To order your poke bowl, first you pick a size (small, med, large) and choose a base for your toppings. It could be either white rice, brown rice, salad greens or half/half of any. Then you get to choose the fish you want. For a small, I got the Salmon and Scallops. Next are the toppings- seaweeds, cucumbers, fried garlic, spicy mayo and salt. There's also guac for an extra 75cents. I got everything, and the bowl ended up to be a very satisfying and complete meal. Overall, the bowl was surprisingly filling with the seemingly small amount. The fish was fresh and seasoned well. I especially love that the rice was fluffy and warm. I could do without the salt sprinkles next time for sure. And I just wish the scoops they use to portion the poke were a size or two bigger. read more

After seeing a number of friends' snapchats of this place, I finally got to try it out! The restaurant is very vibrant, clean, and super welcoming! I ordered a small (2 scoops of fish) with half brown rice and half salad as the base. Add in 1 scoop of salmon and 1 scoop of tuna for the fish. Add avocado, cucumber, seaweed salad, masago, sesame seeds, dried seaweed, and probably some other toppings to this bowl. Finished with their house sauce, which is similar to sesame shoyu in all the other poke places. I really enjoy the fact that this place cuts the fish into huge pieces; it feels like I'm getting a bang for my buck. Also, super nice that they have their own selection of teas and what not. This definitely sets them apart from other poke places because the usual places has canned sodas and teas. However, what I didn't like was the lack of flavor. When you order the sauce, it gets poured on, having you to mix it on your own. Even mixed, I felt like it just wasn't enough. I feel like seeing the fish being marinated in sauce gives that comforting feeling, knowing that your food will be flavorful. Overall, this place did not stand out too much for me. Man oh man. If you know me, you know I love me some Flour + Tea! Easily my favorite boba shop/cafe for its sweet atmosphere, friendly service, and yummy offerings. My first trip to PokeMix was a disappointment. I ordered ALL THE TOPPINGS, didn't mix them properly, and wound up with several mouthfuls of wasabi. I don't profess to be an expert of poke AT ALL, so I can't compare this to the standard. But when I tried it the second time around, I was absolutely pleased. Some winning points for PokeMix by Flour + Tea: PORTIONS - Very generous! Even the small gives you two large scoops of seafood! It was the perfect amount for dinner mixed with the rice and other toppings. SPECIALS - I believe they have a special fish every day? So that spices up the usual mix of tuna, salmon, etc. Further, they have SPECIAL TEA COMBOS! And you can sample them! Do it! SERVICE - Similarly to the original Flour + Tea, the folks who work here are just so nice. I never feel rushed, and it seems they really enjoy what they do. Makes the place bright and comfortable! I can't say it's the best poke place (because I don't know what that would mean), but there are lots of options and the food tastes good. Unfortunately, it was not. PokeMix has limited toppings and the rice to fish ratio was off--I love white rice and usually always finish it, but I had tons leftover. The fish quality was pretty poor. I didn't even risk the salmon based on appearance alone, so I opted for the tuna, crab and spicy tuna. The tuna was alright, but definitely not the best I've ever had. The crab was mixed with tomato and celery and tasted like an unappealing version of a deconstructed crab cake. The spicy tuna tasted a bit too fake for my taste. I really enjoy their baked goods and mochi bread at their Flour + Tea location and, thankfully, they had some of these goodies at PokeMix to supplement my disappointment. So excited flour and tea has a location so close to my house now! I mean... Not that I was driving very far to the one near old town but I can go for a walk and enjoy beautiful Lake Ave too! So clearly... location is fantastic. The tea has always been stellar here and I've been going to the other location since they opened. The staff is friendly and the product is fantastic. This location is definitely no different. Great product, clean store, and friendly staff! I'm afraid I did not get a chance to actually try the poke since I was in a rush, but I grabbed a drink and pastries. The mochi Nutella pastry was lovely! Not too overwhelming- although I probably would not have minded lots of Nutella. The lychee tea I got was great and consistent with the other location's drink which was also great. I'll be honest - I'm naturally skeptical of places that do tea + poke. In my experience, they usually tend to be either really good at one and bad at the other or just mediocre with both. Fortunately, that's not the case with this cute little spot. Their poke and tea aren't the best ever, but they're both quite solid, so that's a welcome surprise for me. The tea isn't amazing, but what really caught me off gaurd was the quality of the boba - it's soooo soft and chewy, honestly A+ boba. The only complaint I have about this place is that the prices are a little bit high in my opinion. For a medium poke bowl plus a tea w/ boba, I paid almost $15. This is a bright, modern, and clean restaurant with plenty of natural light. There's not a ton of seating available, but most people grab and go here, so there seems to always be seats available. Was sincerely greeted upon my entrance by a woman and the rest of the friendly staff and introduced to the menu and how ordering works! Received recommendations to try the albacore + ahi tuna. It was great! Next time I come I hope to try the Spicy Tuna- that looked yumms. I did notice that it was a biiit too salty but that might be due to the pink "Hawaiian salt." However, overall good tasting fish. The place itself is pretty big and is super chic. There's a wall on the side full of neatly packaged teas for sale. A friend recently discovered PokeMix and vouched that its one of the best (and practically only) shops that serve poke around Pasadena. I first stopped by on a weekend afternoon because he also mentioned this is a decent spot to get some work done, and I was pleasantly surprised! This is basically a poke version of Chipotle that is built into a coffe/tea shop. The is WIFI, and a few outlets on the left side of the store. The menu is very simple: between 6 protein options (tuna, salmon, spicy tuna, shrimp, scallop, and imitation crab) you can choose 2 (small), 3 (medium), or 4 (large) scoops. For healthy eaters, you can choose a mix of salad and brown rice to go with the "protein" and top it with various ingredients. The spicy mayo might be high in calorie, but you will definitely feel "clean" after your bowl. On my third visit here, the owners also warned me about the lunch rush. I arrived at about 2:30PM, and the rush had just ended. If you're not a fan of crowds, this is something to be mindful of. As for parking, there are various 1 hour spots along the street that are $1/hr. On my only weekday visit, I was actually able to park in the back parking lot for free! read more

I've never been there in person, but I have ordered from them a times via Postmates. Overall, the fish is pretty good. I wish they were a bit more generous, but I suspect that you are paying for quality ingredients and composition. My top choice is the Ahi on that front. There's also an odd-ball lineup of other delicious things that you really ought to consider. For example, spicy tuna balls and beef bone broth shouldn't be missed. The tuna balls are quite "ricey", but there is something about them that makes you want to take too big of a bite and let your cheeks turn rosy as you chow down anime style. The bone broth is not really bone broth: theres lot's of lovely meat bits in there and it warms your heart and fills your belly. read more

Definitely a competitor of PokeNoya, the only other poke place in the vicinity (around the corner on Colorado), Flour and Tea Poke is a bit bland in comparison at its execution of the poke bowl. They are comparable in price, but PokeNoya, I believe has an edge on Flour and Tea in terms of taste. With that said, the service is definitely faster than PokeNoya. I like poke and wouldn't mind coming back when there's a long wait at PokeNoya. read more

I love the texture of slight crunch that the veggies provide with all the rice, fish, and other toppings. (Also the cucumber bc I love cucumber! More crunch!!) Their egg is pretty good! I do recommend getting that. One of their unique tea flavours would be the blueberry kumquat pomegranate tea. First time here and it will be my last. First parking sucks and it's not the easiest to find. 2nd the customer service is horrible. Really how hard can it be to serve already made cold food? "Sorry" for giving you business. The attitude was: "what do you want?" At the end, the server asked is there anything else? I showed her I had picked out some bakery so she could ring everything up together. She replied nastily "no your food". Food was really salty. And no I didn't add any sauces, I had it on the side. Didn't even use the sauce cause the food had enough salt to make you prune up for the day. After I finished I felt so thirsty I thought there was MSG in my meal. This review is strictly for their milk tea - didn't try any of their poke and their selection to me looks okay at best (I prefer to get my poke in Carson at Poke etc). A couple of us stopped by post lunch at Lemonade because I've always wanted to try milk tea from Flour+Tea. I've had their location closer to Old Town Pas bookmarked forever but never had an opportunity to actually try it. Their environment is very clean and cute. One line for ordering tea/breads and another line for ordering your poke bowl. They assemble it via Chipotle style and the price looks reasonable. Onto the actual drinks: they have a decent selection of milk tea, other types of tea and frost-teas (like slushies). We tried a large iced almond black milk tea and green milk tea with regular sugar. With the 10% off of regular priced drinks from the Yelp check in, both drinks came out to be around $8 something.They definitely use high quality tea for their drinks but I usually prefer my drinks a lot sweeter (we had ordered regular sweetness for our drinks). They happily obliged when I asked them to sweeten my drink more which made the taste acceptable. I may just have to resign to the fact that I prefer my milk tea to be much much sweeter (personal preference thing). Parking: I think there's a lot one can park for free during nights and weekends?
