My favorite Poké bowl place in all of Columbus. The place is very clean and the design is modern. I've probably been there maybe 6-7 times already. They have a build your own bowl or you can choose from a variety of their specialty bowls. It can be confusing if you're a first timer when trying to order. Since you have no idea what goes together. I tried the specialty bowls in the beginning to see what I liked and didn't care much for. This give you an idea on what tastes well together. Think of chipotle but with sushi. A ton of sauce and add-on for your bowl. My friends were invited to try out all their bowls for pictures/blogging purposes so I got treated like a king with all their options and drinks available at my disposal. Poke is slowly picking up popularity in the United States, and it makes me happy that there are now 4-5 places in Columbus to order poke. Some of these follow a more simplistic style, where others, such as Pokebap in Dublin, are more of a fusion style poke bowl with which you can assemble multiple ingredients into a bowl to create-your-own. I love the sheer number of options you have to choose from. Choosing a rice and protein are fairly standard for poke bowls, but what is amazing is the sheer number of toppings, sauces, and vegetables you can add that are complimentary. When I went to Pokebap, I got the salmon + yellowtail on white rice with cucumber, sweet onions, mango, edamame, tomato, scallions, avocado, seaweed salad, ginger, crispy onions, crispy garlic, cucumber, and furikake. For the sauces I had them mix Pokebap and sweet soy sauce. Only the seaweed salad out of everything on that list costed extra, and the resulting combination was simply divine. There were so many flavors that all blended very well, and it was quite filling yet also nutritious. The fish was not anything particularly special, but unfortunately it is difficult to get good quality fish when Ohio isn't seaside. Additionally, I wish they let the fish marinade in the sauce all day instead of preparing the marinade when you order it. Still, for what you pay for, the quality of the poke bowl is superb. In addition to the poke, you also have the option of ordering spam musubi, a Hawaiian classic staple. For $2 you can order this delight, which is spam on rice, wrapped in nori, with teriyaki sauce on the spam. The musubi is quite appetizing, and has that nice classic sweetness you would expect from musubi teriyaki sauce. For the quality of fish you can get in Ohio, Pokebap is very well done and an excellent place to get poke. read more

This is the best poke place in town! I have tried poke bro's in polaris but doesn't compare to the freshness and taste at pokebap! It's a reasonable price and you get quite a lot for your buck. I totally recommend their poke bowl with brown rice, assorted fish - tuna, yellowtail, salmon, octopus (because one is not enough) and top it off with everything and ponzu sauce. The Poke places sure seem to be popping up everywhere and I'm thrilled. Pokebap is a good one! I got The Pokebap specialty bowl that starts with a bowl of sushi rice topped with Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, and Octopus, cucumber, edamame, crab sticks, roe, and tasty sauce and furikake. It was such a delicious mixture and I couldn't stop shoveling it all in my mouth. They were fairly generous with the fish and I was pleasantly surprised to see the octopus thinly sliced and not at all chewy like I feared. $13 for the bowl seems semi steep, but the portion was large and the fish seemed of decent quality. On the side, I ordered the bap chips, which are puffed rice chips that had black sesame within the mixture. They weren't very strong in flavor, but I found them to be a nice accompaniment to the saucy bowl. read more

Love my meat cooked. I have to admit, I was taken aback when I realized my protein option was raw fish, raw fish or raw fish. Oh yeah, I hate fish. I only like fish that doesn't taste like fish. Well, I guess I don't really like fish. Oh Shit, I thought! I didn't want my small crap town ignorance make me look like a hick, so i sucked it up and tried to order like a pro. The tuna had such a fresh red color that I ignorantly asked if it was watermelon. Oops. Cat was out of the bag so I went for it. The staff was very nice and helpful in guiding me through my dazed and confused experience. I asked them to load it up with as many spices as possible to hopefully mask eating directly out of a fish tank. This works great when eating my wife's cooking so it should serve me well. Turned out to be very tasty. In fact, I finished my wife's dinner. I would definitely be back if returning to the area. Bowls are offered traditional or spicy (be warned, the spicy is no joke). With the build your own bowl you can get half-and-half types of fish, and all sauces are made in-house. They also sell good sides, like seaweed salad and kimchi. For a fast, affordable, filling and healthy meal, it's a great option. Friends introduced this new fast casual Poke food concept to me on my visit to Ohio last week. The idea is to create your own bowl of food similar to going through a chipotle order line. There are various fish and veggie toppings and sauces you can select to compile your personalized Poke bowl. They use sashimi grade cubes of salmon, yellowtail, tuna, and others as the primary protein. The ingredients were super fresh, healthy, and most importantly very delicious. Overall, a very flavorful and filling meal you can feel good about eating. I'm impressed that people of Columbus OH are ready for this level of cuisine. Price point was cheap considering the high quality of ingredients used. In addition to the food quality, The restaurant was spacious, clean, and had a modern yet welcoming decor. read more

For a build-your-own bowl starting at $11 for tuna or yellowtail, the options are endless. choose white or brown rice and greens. on my bowl, i got, jalapeños, cucumber, mango, edamame, seaweed salad (+$1), cilantro tomato, scallions, and finished it off with some pokebap sauce and spicy aioli. I highly recommend the pokebap sauce and spicy aioli with any bowl. I've had Pokebap three times... the Island bowl is simply outstanding. The ingredients are fresh, the serving size appropriate, and the flavors delicious. I doubt I'll ever make my own 'cause I'm such a fan of the Island. I tried their namesake bowl (the Pokebap) once. I found it over-crunched and with four different fish-ingredients it was difficult to find any consistency bite-to-bite. This is something unique and delicious... and that can be pretty hard to find. Since it's opening, I've been wanting to visit this place. I also live super close so I don't feel like I have any valid excuse of not coming. I had lunch here a couple weeks ago with a few colleagues. The restaurant itself was rather plain. I am not sure if I liked the decor/coloring inside... The place also seemed small to me, not a lot of seats - so probably works better for take outs. It operates like a Chiptole, you get in the line and pick your food. Line moved at an alright pace, but can definitely be a little faster. I decided to go with the pre-set option, the poke bowl. It came with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, octopus, veggies, crab stick, masago, and topped off with roasted garlic and furikake. Pretty much a little bit of everything. I didn't find it to be too spicy (and I am not a spicy eater). Overall, I did like the food - it was pretty fresh and, for the most part, felt somehow healthy. I did find the sauce to be more on the unhealthy side. If the bowl could be less saucy, everything would be wonderful (at least to me). Since it's sashimi, it is probably not going to be as cheap as what you think as all the other fast food/chains/quick eats. OK - despite being pretty adventurous eater, I, for some reason had not done Poke... it, by definition should have all of the things I like / love in food - fresh, variety of flavors, light... etc. So Pokebap was a great find and great first trip. So if you are comfortable with true sushi ( raw, but there are other options) - and can accept a "cold" plate ( yes the rice is warm - but this concept is a little more like a salad), and looking for light, let's say Asian flavors - then you have to stop and give these guys a try. The service was friendly, and prompt. The food was fresh - a necessity here with the fish, and delicious. Saw another comment about serving size - I am 210#, and for dinner a single bowl (The Pokebop) was fine. In general this is not a "cheap" food due to seafood and freshness required to make it work. So to me the portion size was perfect, not expensive, but it is not an $8 burger replacement. So... why not 5 Stars .... I think they need to work on the restaurant and menu presentation. If you know what you want and what you are ordering -you will be fine. But the menu is only displayed on some overhead screens in the front of the restaurant, and needs better presentation - esp for the uninitiated. If you want someone to try something different - you need to do a good job of showing and explaining what is going on - don't alienate a potential new client. ( While I was eating, a single, and group of 3 came in and were also not sure about what they were getting into). Since this style is kind of build your own, I think some visualization is critical. Not a big fan of all disposable plates and plastic ware, no recycling, when eating in-but that is just me. But - will I return? YES, I am traveling on business and finding tasty, healthier - meals can be a challenge. read more
