After several conversations with both Sam and Kendre, my issue was resolved. The original lost gift card was credited, and a new gift card was issued and received by my friend. It's not often enough that individuals perform their job to the level of expectation, somehow we've learned to accept mediocrity as the norm. I'd been to Del Mar earlier this year with a colleague and had such a wonderful experience that I decided to return when work brought me back to Columbus. Del Mar is a beautiful restaurant with lovely outdoor seating when the Columbus weather cooperates, and you don't mind the occasional roar of motorcycles and fancy cars showing off. Apparently, dinner comes with a complimentary automotive exhibition. The little touches are lovely too, including an adorable napkin folded into a rose at each place setting. A small detail, but one that made me smile. I started with the snapper ceviche, which was fresh and enjoyable, though fairly ordinary. The accompanying sesame crackers, however, were fantastic. Not exactly the hierarchy of excellence I was expecting, but here we are. The beet salad was the clear winner. Beautifully tender beets, creamy yogurt, pistachios, and avocado made for a wonderfully balanced dish. Generously portioned and absolutely worth ordering again. And then came the $60 lobster spaghetti. The presentation was charming, but the tomato-based pasta was unremarkable, and the lobster was chewy rather than tender. Worse, I encountered several pieces of shell. A little crunch is lovely in a pasta dish, but preferably not when it comes from the lobster's former residence. Service was otherwise excellent. My server was also tending bar but remained prompt and attentive, refilling my sparkling water with lemon three times. Unfortunately, when I pointed out the lobster shells, there was little acknowledgment and no offer to make things right. I took the unfinished dish to go, but at $60, I expected a bit more concern. Despite the mediocre entrée, Del Mar remains one of my favorite dining spots in Columbus. The lobster spaghetti was perfectly edible, just not near worth its $60 price tag.
