I was craving something different than the usual salad or sandwich mid-day. I visited Poke Poke during the middle of the week, after the lunch rush. The menu is expansive, but I knew that I wanted a poke bowl (versus a ramen or noodle dish). After explaining what I was looking for, and that this was my first time in this establishment, the woman behind the counter patiently guided me through my choices. I went with the Tsukiji bowl on her recommendation. It truly had a little of everything (tuna, salmon, crab salad, edamame, radish, nori, spicy mayo, and more). The ingredients were fresh and the portion was generous for the price. Will definitely be back here when I am craving something out of my normal rotation. Went to Poke Poke to pick up lunch. The outlet is hard to miss and has an aesthetic decor. They also have Japanese drinks and pancakes besides their signature poke bowls. I went for their Umi Bowl, which contained vermicelli, spicy tuna, salmon, shrimp and edamame. It also comes with fish roe which added a fun crunch to the bowl. I come here a lot for the poke bowl which is fantastic. Staff is always friendly here and quick. The interior is very inviting and I love to sit on the second floor and eat in peace. The unagi don is really good! The eel is fatty, tender, and warm with plenty of sweet unagi sauce. I like the pieces of tamago and radish that come with the dish. It also comes with a miso soup on the side. It took only 5-10 minutes to come out. Really nice spot to get a quick lunch downtown. There are a few tables at the bottom and more seating upstairs. It's a fast-casual spot that's consistent and reliable for poke bowls, rice bowls, and soup. There's street parking on the same street, but it's downtown prices ($7/hr). Gotta admit, coming from the west coast, I was a little bit skeptical about ordering poke here , but I was so pleasantly surprised! Ordered pick up through their own website and pick up was pretty quick and friendly. I built my own bowl with spicy tuna, salmon, and scallops as protein, with purple rice and mixed greens as my base. Came here with my parents for a quick lunch and didn't expect much, but we were pleasantly surprised! The food is fresh, tasty, reasonably priced, with fast excellent service. My mom and wife got two of their premade poke bowls (Tsukiji bowl and Kuromon bowl) and I built my own- they all had a good portion of fish that I thought was definitely worth especially compared to other places where you might get a little scoop for the same price, toppings were fresh and the sauces were savory and tasty but not overpowering. The biggest surprise though was the braised beef noodle soup my dad got- it was hearty, full of deep savory beef flavor, not too salty, with big chunks of perfectly braised tender fall apart beef. My mom is a big soup critic and even she enjoyed it. For a poke place, it's one thing to have things like beef noodle soup or ramen, but it's a whole nother level of impressive that they actually nail the soup. Consider the prices of everything else downtown, like paying $18 for a sandwich or $20 for pancakes, I'd say Poke Poke is more than worth a visit! read more

It's the best ramen in town! We were craving ramen that day and my husband was a bit skeptical about having ramen at the poke place but he concluded this is the best ramen in Chicago. The place is clean and has a nice atmosphere. However, I wish they cleaned the high chair from time to time. It is so dirty that I couldn't put my child in there. We tried the miso ramen, which has excellent tonkotsu, the broth was well-balanced and we loved the soft eggs in there. The Braised beef noodles were so good too. Generous portion of braised beef, and wonderful flavor in the broth. We were both so satisfied with the noodles. The poke here is really good! I got a build your own bowl with double salmon and spicy tuna, and the fish was fresh. I ordered mild for the spice level, and it was pretty spicy. I chose half rice and half mixed greens. For the sauces, I chose spicy mayo and roasted sesame, which tasted amazing together. I wanted extra sesame sauce, but I had to pay $1. My two (very very minor) complaints are 1. my last order I'm not sure the fish was the freshest but it's been fresh every other time, 2. i'm not sure they have the chopped spicy tuna that you can get at some places... Both times I made my own poke bowl with salmon, black rice, vermicelli noodles, a ton of veggie fixings, roe, and tempura crunch. I love that you can make this kind of bowl soy free and with a ton of veggies. And as much as I like sushi, I really only love the salmon rolls. We were looking for healthy options for dinner so we decided on poke. This was within walking distance of our hotel so we came here. I built my own regular Poké bowl and it was delicious. You can choose up to three proteins for the regular size bowl. They had sauces that I've never seen before like fruity ones which I really liked. Hubby had the Unagi Bento which came with the miso soup and it was excellent. Portion size was very good. Prices were reasonable. Service was friendly and efficient. Food here is excellent. My family and I ordered the Poké bowls and ramen noodles. The ramen broth is deep and rich, and the noodles have that wonderful chew. The poke bowls were equally delicious, filled with fresh and bright ingredients. My kids loved the food so much we ate here three days straight on our stay here in Chicago. They even stopped wanting pizza, which is a feat in itself. The staff was super friendly and patient while the kids ordered. And restaurant is clean, comfortable, and nicely air conditioned. I ordered this on door dash, My build your bowl was good- super unique that they have purple rice! I loved it. I wish they had mango available, I got a little confused at the options in door dash that state extra Thai Mango, as it didn't clarify it was sauce. I also wish there were a little more veggies to rice ratio. But overall it was delicious, and they also had roe! I would skip the Wonton soup though. It looks better in their photos than real life. It's clearly not fresh and lacks any flavor of ginger, rice vinegar, green onion, or garlic. It's just and only way too salty, which is a premade dead giveaway. I've tried other Poke Poke locations around town and I was excited to check out this newly opened one. This is a fabulous location and welcome addition to the neighborhood. I love the fast casual concept of this brand. The interior of the store is welcoming and thoughtfully designed. There are decorative fish hanging from the ceilings and ropes adorning the walls. The space is well lit and rather small but cozy on the first floor. However, there are actually three seating levels, so it's a great option for dining in. You can't go wrong with the poke bowls here. Go with the larger size since the portions are on the smaller side. The ingredients are fresh and they know how to put together a tasty poke bowl. They also make ramen and a variety of other hot Japanese inspired dishes. I recommend the black garlic ramen, it's quite good and beats waiting at least 30 minutes for ramen at other places. It was a new treat as I have never been to a make your own Poke bowl place. Given I was new, I had many silly questions and the staff was very helpful. The fish and toppings were very fresh and the pork gyoza was delicious. While there weren't too many seats inside (10-15?), they did have space available and fresh tap water for their guests. So thankful this spot opened in Streeterville so anytime I'm craving poke I can literally walk here! Really happy to find a poke place near my area, and interesting to see they also offer purple rice besides just the white rice. However, their rice is a bit hard and is not sushi rice.
