Really enjoyed grain and sea! I came here for dinner on a day I wasn't too terribly hungry, but had wanted something relatively light. The way they work is that you get a container and pick up individual sushi pieces and they charge you at the end by weight. I got four pieces of sushi which cost $9, and a side of miso soup which was $4. I ate and was very comfortably full, and the quality of the sushi was fairly good in my opinion! I particularly liked the salmon pieces. They have plenty of tables inside, and the bathrooms are decently clean so it's a nice place to get out of the heat and sit for a while as well. They do have other a la carte options on the menu as well if you don't want only sushi.

I was not a fan of this place... I do hope them the best though... I came in around 11:30 and was expecting a busy crowd, however it wasn't busy at all, I was actually the only person. The rolls looked dry like they had been sitting there for awhile... they had plastic covers to help prevent this and lifted it when I came in... The sushi variety was lacking- a lot of it had shrimp tempura or shrimp, which I'm allergic to. Quality was also lacking. Too much rice not sure if it's a way to add weight to the box, but the big gunken style sushi was mostly rice. I quickly ate this and left to another sushi place.

The sushi and rolls are so fresh! Loved the variety and it tasted really good. The service was quick. The rolls are made ready to pick up and the flavors are really good. This is also so affordable, they sell it by the ounces and it's right downtown so you can come on by and grab lunch or dinner. It's so convenient and quick and easy to grab.

Not sure why this place barely has any reviews because it went viral on social media. Super unique concept of which you get to create your own sushi box without committing to the same pieces (unless you want to). There were a variety of nigiri, inarizushi, and rolls which were all FRESH, buttery, and tasty. I believe it's $1.25/oz and the total came to about $40 with a drink. Service here is super friendly and the shop is spacious enough with a lot of tables. Must try if you're in Chicago!

    The full bar of sushi.

Great food!! Really love the concept, you Dont have to eat full rolls, you can pick how many pieces you want from each roll. And all of them are so, so good. The service is great. I think the owners come out to see how we are doing, really fun and nice. The place itself is a great location in the heart of downtown. It's more grab your food and go back to work. However, they do have tables and chairs to sit and enjoy your meal. I really liked the music the ambiance is great for a casual lunch.

I love this sushi spot so much! There's a great selection of sushi to choose from and the staff are all really friendly. You can mix and match your sushi if you want to try multiple rolls. Can't go wrong coming here for a quick bite to go

Sushis (I forgot their names oops sorry friends)

This place has a very sweet ambiance! I've been here twice for dinner, and yes, they may have limited number of available menu, but worry not! Let the staff know what you'd like to have (and how many of that), and they'll make it to you fresh! I love the variety of things that they offer here as well; everything is lovely!

    Cleared plates LOL

Insane deal for what you're getting! Visited Chicago from the Bay Area and saw this spot and decided to check it out. Was met with amazing customer service. And the PRICE all of our plates were 10-15 dollars!!!!!!! Especially since we came from the bay the price was a shock! Overall 10/10 service, experience and the place is so aesthetic and cute.

Self selected assortment of sushi and rolls.

This was a lovely surprise that I found when I was running errands downtown. It is buffet style, choose the pieces you want to create your own box. They had a great assortment of rolls, so I didn't have to choose just one, but sampled a piece from a bunch of different rolls. They charge by weight, and each piece came out to around $1-1.50 per piece. The staff were super helpful and friendly. The place itself is casual and very laid back. Given the variety and convenience, thought this was a huge bargain.

I almost decided to save Miru for our next visit, but I'm glad I made time for breakfast here on our departure day. Located inside the St. Regis Chicago, the restaurant offers beautiful views. The service was excellent--attentive, friendly, and professional. I ordered the Tokyo Breakfast. The salmon was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with rice, a soft-poached egg, and salmon roe. The miso soup was slightly salty on its own, but it worked surprisingly well when enjoyed with the rice toward the end of the meal. Overall, a memorable breakfast experience. I'd love to return and try the lunch or dinner menu on my next trip to Chicago.

It's all about the views!…read more Miru is one of the newer sushi restaurants relatively uncompetitive sushi scene in Chicago, and it hits the spots for those interested in classy ambience and jaw dropping views. The sushi is phenomenal, as were our drinks... but the other entrees are disappointing. The karaage and duck yakisoba in particular in quality could be from any corner restaurant in Chicago. The service lends itself more casual, and I noticed they were consistently quite slow to clear our table. I don't think people come here for the food as much as the views. Overlooking Streeterville from this angle and vantage was truly jaw dropping and for this reason I still strongly recommend Miru.

My only critique is the pacing. Since the chef already had the fish sliced and prepped, I expected a smoother flow, but the meal took about an hour and a half for 14 pieces of sushi. It felt a bit slow, especially for a lunch service. That said, if you're looking for a reasonably priced omakase with quality fish, this is a solid choice.

Both were great. Our bartenders were lovely and very friendly. Found out this is a Malort tasting room and we were able to sample some different Malorts (the cocoa one was good!). Then we were taken back to our table for dinner. Our server was super friendly as well. Started with the miso soup and crispy tuna bites which were probably my favorite dishes. The taki yoki fritters weren't bad either. We saw people getting omakase, so we ordered a yummy looking piece they were receiving. It was just okay (chutoro truffle). The nigiri was also okay. The tuna piece was the only I really loved. The fish quality wasn't as high as I was expecting. The sushi was decent. A little too much truffle in the spicy blue fin tuna and a little too vegetable forward in the hamachi serrano. All in all, the atmosphere and amazing service pushed this up to a 4 for me.
