The Kraken Special, Dragon Special Roll, Torched Salmon Maki Special, Hotate nigiri, and NEGI TORO HOSO

Updating my review for next time my best friend and I get sushi from our fave Chicago hidden gem sushi shop. It's located in 88 Market which makes it feel like an under the radar treasure. You'll go up the escalators to the market and take a slight right towards what looks like some food stalls. You are able to dine it or takeout. This visit we ordered on DoorDash ahead of time for pickup. It was the weekend before Lunar New Year so it was packed. If you do want to dine-in, there are tables in what sorta feels like food court style in front of where you order your food. There is a divider between the food and grocery sections. We like to do takeout. Our big takeaway is do not get anything with squid. It's just not for us. We wouldn't get the kraken special again. This time we tried the kraken special, dragon special roll, torched salmon maki special, hotate nigiri, and negi toro hoso. We got the dragon roll and hotate nigiri last time so we always recommend this for super yummy rolls. We fell in love with the negi toro hoso and its fun little onion kick, so will definitely order that again. We wanted more from the torched salmon maki, something about the sauce drowned out the flavor and made it more bland. The sushi is fresh and delicious here, you don't want to miss out!

This is my go to sushi place for à la carte experience. This is the best place for tuna and otoro, it's extremely fresh. The pricing is on the more expensive side but it is worth it. The waiter was extremely polite and professional. They even read back my order to me. This place is inside a grocery store and there is free parking!

I really like the sushi here. It's so fresh and the service is amazing. There is a lot of place to sit either by the chefs itself or seating just outside which is inside the 88 Marketplacd. It's BYOB which is great to enjoy with friends. The variety of sushi to choose from is great. They have Otoro, tuna, salmon, eek and different rolls. We got the Otoro flight which was so flavorful and it just melts in your mouth.

I came here with my husband and cousin for dinner on a Sunday night. We ordered the salmon paradise along with a tiger roll. There weren't a ton of people at the restaurant so service was pretty quick. The ambience is pretty nice because you can choose to sit near the store front to people watch while they're grocery shopping or you can sit inside which feels a bit more intimate. I chose to sit inside just so it's a bit more quiet and we can actually hold conversations. I thought the food was pretty decent and I don't mind coming here to pick up sushi if I'm in the area. The rice to fish ratio is reasonable as well as the price for the amount of food you get. I thought this party tray platter along with a roll was just enough for three people.

This salmon don pops OFF!! The salmon is so so fresh, the pickled radish and scallions add a nice crunchy and sour texture to compliment the mild fish. We got this catered, and while the rice was admittedly a bit heavy handed on the rice vinegar, I devoured this bowl in seconds. This place slays, and I definitely wanna come again to try it dining in house!! Can't speak to the service or the ambiance because this was catered!

This restaurant is in the food court area of a large Asian grocery market. Go upstairs to the grocery store and you'll see a row of restaurants to dine at. I went on a weekday afternoon and got quick and attentive service. The menu is not large but it just told me they do a few thing a really well. The portions were healthy and the food was good! It was a bit busy because I think there's a door for the staff behind the bar seating but I never once got bumped and had no issues with the foot traffic.

FOOD Salmon Paradise - This comes with 12pc Salmon Maki, 12pc Spicy Salmon, 8pc Torched Salmon Maki, 8pc Salmon Nigiri, and 4pc Salmon Sashimi. All the fish is super fresh and everything tastes good. Would highly recommend!! VIBES This restaurant is located inside the 88 marketplace. There is some sushi bar eating as well as some tables with benches. Pretty casual vibes. SERVICE I didn't interact much with the staff, so nothing to really say about service. Food was quick to come out and in the little interaction I did have, they were pretty friendly.

Casual sushi spot located inside 88 marketplace on Jefferson. Many seating available. Service was great and food came out one after the other. Pricey, but the fish was incredibly fresh and delicious. Got the salmon flight which includes 5 big pieces of either nigiri or sashimi style salmon (different cuts) for $22. I also ordered 1 piece of chutoro ($8), otoro ($10), and a decent sized wagyu & uni hand roll (not on the menu; $36) which were even more delicious. Everything just melts in your mouth. Also probably the best uni I've had in the city (creamy and sweet/not briny at all). Shrimp tempura maki was crispy and filling. Definitely a spot worth shelling out the money and coming back to.

One of my favorite places to order nigiri in Chicago. It's a must-try for lovers of salmon nigiri. They typically have over 6 different types of salmon nigiri. The salmon belly and seared salmon are my 2 favorites, but all are worth trying. Buying the 5-type salmon flight also helps keep the costs down. Their other nigiri cuts are also quite fresh. The service is really quick, and there's no wait time for tables even at peak hours.

A frequently revisited spot for great sushi. A bit of a hidden gem, as it's located inside the food court at 88 Marketplace. The quality is consistent and reasonably priced. I prefer the nigiri and sashimi compared to the specialty rolls.

Love ordering to go but I occasionally dine in. It's located in the food court of 88 marketplace. Platters are a great deal for the fish quality and amount you get and can be split between 2-4 people depending on their appetite. Order out - I usually order their salmon don bowl, super delicious and good amount of salmon. I also order the dragon roll. Dining in - can be chilly in the winter. They had a heating lamp so that helped when they turned it on later during my visit.

Great sushi for the price! I've done takeout and dine-in and the quality of the seafood was good in both. They don't sell alcohol with the food, but you can buy it in the market and bring it to your table.

My go to for good quality sushi when I want to pay $$ and not $$$ or omakase. They used to only be dining inside their area but now with the sears outside getting a seat isn't a huge problem! I went on a friday recently with a reservation but i don't think it was needed - better safe than sorry though! Now for my highlights on the fish Scallop Nigiri- as a big scallop enjoyer i think they have great scallop here. fresh and good bite 8.9/10 Scallop handroll - i messed up by biting right on top and so my first bite had all scallop and i was just left with seaweed and rice for the rest. 8.6/10 Scallop don - i do not know if the rice is different from the rest but i enjoyed this rice a little more here! good amount of scallop inside the don. if i had to pick one item off the menu it would be this. 9.1/10 Chutoro- i been here multiple times but each time the chutoro never fully hits. it could be off season but sadly this places chutoro has been a miss for me each time i came. but i will still get it every time as a reward. 6.1/10 (this scales on my fav chutoro 7.8/10 for overall food) Salmon belly - i love salmon. it was my gateway for sushi. add the belly for a little fat. i wish i got it seared. 8.8/10 all the other fish i tried is great as well! these are just my go to and highlights. no fishy taste on any of em

How many pieces included in some of the rolls? And do they use a lot of rice? The food looks amazing.

Rolls range 6-8 pieces. Rice portion is generous. They use high quality sushi rice.

My favorite dishes were probably the pork ones, but I really liked trying all of them! When our waiter asked if we wanted dessert, we said how the hostess told us we would need to leave by a certain time for the next reservation. However, he said we could order dessert anyway. I thought it was weird the hostess was being so finicky about the time, since usually 15 min late is within reason. We did get the red panda. It's mostly ice and a little ice cream, but it was very good and so cute! I would definitely come here again! It is a bit loud if you have anyone in your party who has trouble hearing. You are also quite close to other people in the restaurant.

I've been here for food, desserts, drinks, their basement whiskey bar, everything... and I'll keep coming back whenever I'm in the neighborhood. This time, we came to check out their spring menu because I remembered them having a sakura themed menu last year. We also intended on checking out their new desserts but completely forgot lol, so now I'll need to come back again. Off their seasonal menu, we ordered Pastel and Lights in the Clouds. The Pastel was very light and a little tart. I loved the pretty pink color too. I didn't get it this time, but my absolute favorite cocktail from here is the Cloud Hopper off their regular menu (starting to crave it rn as I'm writing this, it's so good). When you're seated, you're given a warm towel to wipe your hands. The staff is also super knowledgeable, and the quality of the food and drinks is amazing. It's been awhile since I've eaten here so I can't speak on the food, but based off my memory the karaagé is really good and seems to be popular. I need to come back to try more of their food. Reservations are recommended if you want a table or to go to their whiskey bar in the basement, but we've had plenty of luck coming in right when they open and being able to sit at the bar. This time, we came in about an hour after opening and had to stand, which was fine because we just wanted a drink.

Seating was comfortable. I tried their express lunch menu, which is a great option if you're here during lunch time. Each item is smaller portioned but all together it's a substantial lunch set. I also tried the express sushi and sashimi lunch set, which comes with a delicious seaweed salad which I would order on its own as an appetizer. The lunch set comes with their "oh-my-kaze." This includes salmon, hamachi and tuna. One piece of tuna was substandard and had a big piece of sinew in it. Our server quickly switched it for another piece. The only dish I would skip is the Peking duck sizzling rice. The taste was fine- a little on the sweeter side with the hoisin sauce but the portion was more of an appetizer size. It's also not a true Peking duck, which focuses on a crispy duck skin and this dish just featured duck meat.
