Next the food, not what I expected, the Miso soup was 7 out of 10, but the bento itself Meh, and I order the yum yum fried rice, again not what I expected that was more a sushi dish or better off as one and not as fried rice. The Cali roll, meh and the eel, I really said over rice, not on a plate. We also had to ask for wasabi, I mean "AS IF" my copart had a bento with fish and a cali roll and still zero wasabi, we had to ask for it, I mean even HEB give you some. After reading all the 5 star reviews I was feeling very hopeful with high expectations of the food. We ordered most of the recommended items as well as my favorite nigiri pieces one can't really go wrong with. Hamachi carpaccio 5/5 - this was the first thing that came out and really enjoyed this dish. Really great flavor and very citrusy Yuki roll - Not gonna lie but this had similar flavor profile as the hamachi carpaccio so wasn't as impressed. Also I noticed the texture of the hamachi was really soft and not as firm as I am usually used to Salmon belly nigiri - didn't love it, honestly was a bit fishy King salmon nigiri - this is when we started noticing that most of the fish has this soft, gummy like texture which makes it unappealing to eat, didn't love this one either Dry aged hamachi nigiri - appreciated the size of the fish but again experienced that mushy like texture which overwhelms the eating experience because I didn't want to keep chewing it let alone eat it Santa Barbara Uni nigiri - it was meh nothing special Scallop nigiri - the way it was served it was impossible to eat because it wasn't sliced in a way to eat it properly. I literally didn't eat it because it was served as a whole scallop vertically on the rice Snow trout (special) nigiri - looked promising but again it had that unpleasant texture which by this point we wanted to stop eating overall because it was making it hard to enjoy Big toro roll (which came out last) - definitely the most disappointing we barely ate it and even the toro on top and the toro mixture in the middle also had that odd texture that made all the fish taste the same like gummy mush we barely ate it and actually left most of it uneaten Though the food felt very overhyped and was extremely underwhelming, the service we received from the waiters was very good. I'm truly hoping we went on an off night but even then I don't think we would return.

We finally made it back last Saturday for lunch, and it was definitely worth the wait. I was initially excited to try one of their bento meals after seeing the menu online, but the prices at the restaurant were much higher than what was posted. That's understandable considering how much costs have gone up over the years, so we decided to go with the AYCE option instead. It turned out to be the perfect choice. A special shoutout to our server, whose name I unfortunately forgot to ask. She was friendly, attentive, and honest enough to recommend that we not order too much at first because the tempura portions are much larger than expected. The portion sizes here are much bigger than what we're used to at AYCE sushi restaurants in San Antonio. The shrimp tempura and vegetable tempura were generously sized, with thick, crispy batter that was still flavorful and delicious. Some of our favorite were the Salmon Skin salad, which stayed perfectly crispy even with the dressing, and the Mushroom Soup, which was light, flavorful, and not thick or creamy like many other versions. The shrimp and chicken shumai, chicken karaage, mango rolls, and all of the sashimi we ordered were fresh and delicious as well. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. Between the generous portions, fresh and tasty food, and outstanding service, Sushi Bang Bang reminded us why we enjoyed dining here years ago. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Austin--and now we know to order a little more wisely because the portions are huge!

The prices are certainly not on the "all you can eat" sushi restaurant scale, but you are paying premium for premium. On this visit, we arrived during their happy hour. Do check out their HH menu; it is more than generous. I'm not going to bore you with our selections, but the sushi is so tender and fresh that you are insulting the chef and the fish by adding soy sauce and wasabi! One highlight was the Spicy Tuna Katsu Maki; this entrée is wrapped in a seaweed cone with asparagus, avocado, wasabi mayo, and eel sauce. Another was Uni from their imported from Japan menu. My oh my, it was so fresh and creamy! If you do not want to break the bank, their HH and lunch specials will do you right. Do make reservations if you wish to sit at the sushi bar. Speaking of bars, they have a full bar and their martinis are perfectly made. You can expect 5-star service at this 5-star restaurant. I started with the gyozas -- filled with chicken and veggies, and really affordable at around $6 for 6. The sauce was delicious, and I shared them with my family, who also thought they were great. You can get them fried or steamed; I went with steamed. Next, I ordered the salmon avocado roll, and it was literally the best roll I've ever eaten. I dipped it in soy sauce, and for those who avoid preservatives, they even offer a soy sauce with just soy, wheat, salt, and water -- perfect for me! I ended up ordering four orders of six rolls (yes, they were that good) and ate them all by myself. Each order was about $9, with $7 for just salmon -- avocado was an add-on. The Sexy Mango roll was my mom's favorite -- she said it tasted refreshing. We also tried sashimi sushi, which was served in a cool cup and tasted amazing. My brother went all out and ate 30 avocado rolls, and the chef was kind enough to give him a super-sized sushi with extra avocado and rice -- I was so jealous! I also tried the Beef Bulgogi, which was delicious and priced at about $13 -- very reasonable. Around 4:00 pm on Saturday, the restaurant wasn't crowded, which made it perfect to enjoy our meal. The K-pop music in the background was a fun touch, too. Seriously, the salmon avocado rolls were the best I've ever had. I'll definitely be back next time I'm nearby!

Our server was super nice and immediately took our order. The rolls, because they are part of the combo, were more on the simple side. Both the yellowtail and tuna roll were really good. The quality of the fish seemed decent, but I wish there was more of it in the roll. And I wish the wasabi was a little stronger. The chicken udon bowl was probably my favorite of the night. The udon itself was the perfect texture and really bouncy. The broth was deep and had a rich sweetness. And the chicken was really juicy. The chashu ramen was okay though. I wish the noodles were cooked a little more, I wish the pork was more tender, and I wish the egg was jammier since the whole yolk was basically hard boiled.
