My family let me know about the new poke place that opened in town, so we decided to check it out while I was visiting. Now I know I may have high standards for Orland Park poke, but after living in Hawaii for many years, I hoped this visit would bring back memories of those ono kine grindz. They have many different bases, proteins, sauces, and toppings to choose from. Some of the items on display gave me pause because of how they looked. For example, the seaweed salad was swimming in excess liquid, the edamame was pale green from being overcooked, and the masago--an extra $1 charge--was also a bit soggy on the bottom of the pan. However, everything was stocked for service and it seemed like they were very busy with delivery orders throughout the visit. We brought the bowls to the house to eat. I thought mine--a salmon bowl with brown rice--was okay, but not great. My hubby said, "This is like the Genki Sushi of poke." Don't get me wrong--we love Genki Sushi, but it's also not Tamura's. (Tamura's is top-tier poke in Hawaii. Genki Sushi is a more affordable restaurant chain in the islands.) However, the mochi ice cream was excellent and I could see myself visiting this location just for a couple of those. I would eat a meal from here again if my family wanted to, but I probably wouldn't pick it for myself. read more

So good. I could live on these poke bowls. This place has a lower review than the Frankfort one and I absolutely OBJECT to it. Here, the fish quality and texture, the sauce quality and flavors, the toppings, the classic orange masago, the rice temperature....the owner does it right. The tuna and the spicy tuna were SOLID. I like the Frankfort location but I LOVE the Orland Park location. It's clean, the place is brightly and colorfully decorated, and I had to get down to the bottom of it and ask to speak to the owner on how he delivers delicious tasting poke in the middle of an Illinois surburb. He's also seemed like a very humble and nice guy and He shared he use to be a sushi chef for many years in downtown and knows how things should be and tastes and to me that made a lot of sense. Whenever I'm homesick for Hawaii, I come to this Poke Bros. location and eat my feelings. I love to get the marinated tuna, salmon, and even the chicken is delicious! If I'm feeling lazy, I'll order Da Kine (That Kind) or Johnny Utah, but usually I can't go wrong with making my own with: edamame, jalapeno, masago, seaweed salad, green onion, avocado, and crabstick, white or brown rice, ponzu sauce, and tempura flakes. I got the Da Kine and got spicy salmon in place of the tuna, and it tasted great! The fish was fresh, which is so important! The vegetables were fresh as well, and it's so easy to make adjustments according to what you want. The other people I was with ordered the Duke and the Johnny Utah, and both really liked them. My first experience here was less than stellar. They forgot to add my protein to the bowl, and after getting all the way home before realizing it (20 minutes later), I was very disappointed because I was really looking forward to some delicious salmon. I may have flown off the handle a bit when I called them and took it out on the poor woman who answered my call. She did apologize and made it right by refunding some of the bill, so in the end, they did the right thing. She explained they were training a new person, and considering the difficulty of finding good help these days, mistakes do happen. The actual bowl was still pretty tasty even though I did miss the fish component. Hard to come here more then once in a blue moon. Food was average. You can get a bowl just as good at Mariano's for half the price. The issue here is that they are extremely stingy with the toppings. I barely got a half scoop of salmon. I literally had to tell the girl making the bowl to add more of almost every topping. When I asked for sauce she barely put any on. She even said that alot of sauce. I told her that's how I want my food. When I went to pay for the food she tried charging me for Avacodes but I never put any on my bowl. Food is 4/5. But I would have to rate customer service and value at a 1. I hope they can get better with their stinginess, because that is the most common complaint from this place. read more
