Two others got the Always Be My Basil Poke bowl which was a big hit. They have different canned and bottled non-alcoholic drinks available. The prices were reasonable for what we got. We will return.

Crawfish/crayfish/crowdads were flavorable too. It's definitely a new amosphere to have in Madison. I was excited too see how well this establishment compares to Kpot. Kpot is great, love it but this place, just as almost. Only downside is that, during the time when i went, they didn't have tablets for placing orders for each table. It's not a dealbreaker but I do think that would have been better. Customers won't have to wait for their waiter/waitress to come back to the table everytime and place orders. Also keeps the customers from going at their own pace and essentially this could mean leaving sooner and being able to get more customers to seat.

Waitress even asked how he was doing and I informed her that he was probably tired from school. When the check came I asked if we could just pay for an appetizer or something since my son didn't eat any of the Korean BBQ. Just a couple of fries and she said it was store policy to still charge him a full dinner buffet. The food is all right and all. I wouldn't say it's amazing by any stretch but the experience of getting charged a full meal when the waitress clearly acknowledged my sleeping child really soured me to this place. The sad part was I would have been more willing to give her a larger tip for being accommodating but I guess policy is policy. Policy is also what lost you a returning customer.

Great to hear where he comes from, where he gets his tuna, etc etc. It's a family own business and everyone there chips in. Food was good. Definitely can improve to make it stella. The tuna was fresh and the proportion of fish to rice is excellent. Just a bite of rice with plenty of meat. The shrimp tempura was also fresh. The vegetables were chunky and fried just right, not over cooked. The batter for the agedashi Tofu, tempura and soft shell crab was crispy and piping hot when served. Careful with that. If the batter could be lighter and still crispy, it will be fantastic. Ask for some togarashi to go with the agedashi Tofu. It makes that dish very pleasant - soft tofu covered with crispy batter and just a touch of spice. Overall a good meal and I would recommend Yako Sushi.

I sat down with my friend expecting what Im used to - I tell her we have to get a tom yum soup base and a beef broth base. They hand us the menu and... yep, beef broth, but no tom yum! I made a remark about it being a bummer it wasnt there, and was about to order the mushroom instead. But this very kind waiter overheard and very excitedly told us he'd be able to do tom yum!! For that - 12 stars. It was delicious. The beef bone broth was also stellar, i even grabbed a few spoonfuls just to drink straight up! Service is split between a waiter and a robo-water, which was interesting. You order your broth, then you can order through the phone app all you want for the table. Dont worry, you can keep ordering as you eat! So dont order it all rightaway. Youll run outta table space, hehe! Theres a small sauce bar and fruit bar and a cooler with drinks. Theres was also mini ice cream but by god we were STUFFED at the end and didnt get a shot at trying them. We ordered lamb, crab sticks, bok choy, enoki, broccoli, more bok choy, some rice, crab sticks, kimchi, more bok choy... you get it. Not my best plunder (i swear im usually adventurous) but i wanted basic GREENS today for some reason. Long winded way to say - good job Fuki!! Im impressed!! Thank you for the tom yum and fun experience.

The only complaint was the edamame- it didnt seem fresh and was pretty fibrous- though I suspect the issue was more with the supplier then the resturaunt - hence 5 stars. Definitely would come here again.

The restaurant itself has a lot of heart in its decoration and looked fairly well kept, though there were quite a few house flies the day I came, which was a bit of a bother. The food itself came out quite nicely - the sashimi was clearly fresh, and the food in the salmon hibachi lunch bento I ordered all came out well. Nothing too particularly fancy or unique, but also nothing bad to say either. Just some good food. And sometimes, good, consistent food is all that matters in life. Granted, I need to visit more before I can really judge if they are truly consistent. But what I had in my time there was truly good food.

It was delicious and really hit the spot. My drink, one basil after another, was DELICIOUS! I will definitely be coming back for happy hour and getting that again. I also tried my friends rose water lycheetini which was very tasty as well. The basil drink was a bit booze-ier than the other which I liked. For our main courses we ordered the spider roll, negihama roll, and the salmon roll which I would rank in that order. The spider roll was so salty and yummy. The negihama was so fresh and flavorful. The salmon roll was good but nothing to write home about.

After seeing a YouTube video with a master Japanese sushi chef trying American-style sushi, a new…read morephrase entered my lexicon: "Mayonnaise Roll." Regrettably, I will encounter one during my visit. More on that later. I started off with a Mojo Mojito (N/A). Big points for noticeable mint notes, something which was forgotten in two I had previously (in different spots). That said, it was a little sweeter than I prefer, but this is a matter of taste. For my app, I ordered the OG Pork Buns. These were great! The buns were soft, and the pork was tender and well balanced in terms of ratio of meaty to fatty. It was also sauced the perfect amount, and had a great amount of cucumber for freshness. While I can't put it in the S-Tier, I will easily give it a B, maybe an A if I am in a good mood. The only changes I would prefer (also personal preference) is a little acid for brightness, and a shift towards the fatty end of the ratio. Then we arrive at the fated Sunset Salmon Roll. On the surface, it promises to be a roll to remember: two kinds of fish, three kinds of veggie (including jalapeño), tobiko, and mayo. Instead, anything the roll tried to do was lost as the balance was way off. The quantity of rice was such that it seemed as though the rice was the main event, and everything else was cast as "Waiter #3." To make matters worse, the Yuzu mayo was very strong, further shifting focus away from the fish and veg. Thus, we arrive at "rice and mayo roll." When asked how I was liking things, and I communicated as much, the bar-server offered to change it to something else (thank you very much). That something else was two sets of Nigiri: Unagi & Seared Tuna (Bincho Maguro Tataki). For the Unagi, this was perfect with no notes. The eel was cooked and sauced perfectly, and the balance of rice to protein was ideal. Good job. I can't say the same for the Seared Tuna. The kiss of fire can elevate a piece to otherworldly levels, but only if done correctly. Here, the flame seemed to be applied as an afterthought, and added nothing of value to the fish. The only thing it did was take away some of that amazing freshness sushi-grade fish has by partially cooking it. Any smokey and roasty notes were not in the building. Final verdict: Tavernakaya got off to a promising start with a great virgin Mojito and pork buns. However, it faltered severely when it came to sushi. While the Unagi Nigiri was a strong contender, the Sunset Salmon Roll and Seared Tuna Nigiri were poorly executed. Thus, while I am not against trying their ramen on a later day, I'll likely steer clear of the sushi side of the menu.
